Masilela ready for Madrid Derby

Posted: 2012-02-02 15:02

Tsepo Masilela faces one of the biggest tests of his career this weekend when the in-form Getafe face Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid in La Liga.

The Bafana Bafana left-back has played an integral role in a six-match unbeaten run for Luis Garcia Plaza's side that has seen them climb up to eighth spot in the standings.

And with Masilela hoping to earn a permanent move to the Madrid-based team, having arrived there on a season-long loan, his agent Paschalis Tountouris knows a good showing against the Spanish League leaders will only help his cause.

"He's excited but Tsepo has played in lots of big matches before," he tells KickOff.com.

"The situation is clear – Getafe have the option to sign him at the end of the season, so let's see how he gets on for the rest of the year. But whatever happens, I think he will stay in Spain because Tsepo has created a very good name for himself over the last few matches."

Since returning from three months out with a hamstring injury in mid-December, Masilela has yet to finish on the losing side in any La Liga matches. The visit of Cristiano Ronaldo and co to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday night will provide his stiffest test to date, but Tountouris thinks Getafe have a good chance of mounting a challenge to qualify for the Europa League.

"They have already beaten Barcelona this season so we will see," he says.

"The team is doing really well and after this weekend there are a few more winnable matches coming up. All the teams in Spain are very close together so it is hard to say what is going to happen until the end of the season."

Tlhabane!when did Pitso drop Masilela, barring when he was injured?
Most people will say anything against Pitso even when there is no basis.

I also saw today on Sowetan:Sello Rabothata having a go at Pitso & once i saw him mentioning Pitso's salary of R800 000.00 P/M then its personal.

Most of you need to realize that Pitso is not a development coach & if Bafana players were robbed of development, don't blame Pitso.

Masilela has done well for himself & I also feel good showing against Di Maria where they both operate will be a catalyst of his future.

There are very few exceptional left backs in the world & this is an opportunity for our boy.

Those who will do anything to play overseas should take a leaf out of this boy.

He went to Israel to build exposure, his name & more importantly confidence & he's succeeded.

This is one boy who is working so hard to be where he is and not much is reported about him but he can be a great player and he still has a lot to achieve.

Tshepo is one of the best and I believe he can hold his own against the best. I am a South African and I support our players. If he does good for his club, obviously Bafana will benefit as well. Tshwane Derby, with due respect you don't sound positive and encouraging to the boy. Support our players, please.

this is good for SA soccer as our player is playing agaist the best. This is good news as most of our players are strugling to make grade out there. Is a pitty people on this block only comment when they see the name Kaizer chiefs. if this story was about shabba or Zim match fixing there would have been a lot of unfortunate comments from our so called expert. viva Tshepho viva keep the sa flag high
