Zifa only banning 3: Sweswe, Mwanjali and Mushekwi

Zifa retract Asiagate ban – to just Mushekwi, Mwanjali and Sweswe

Zifa only banning 3: Sweswe, Mwanjali and Mushekwi

Posted: 2012-02-02 14:40

Zifa president Cuthbert Dube says recent Asiagate ban does not affect 82 players – just three: Nyasha Mushekwi, Method Mwanjali and Thomas Sweswe.

The development is good news for Ajax Cape Town's Khama Billiat, who was part of the original list of banned players.

The Zimbabwe FA said on Monday that it had "indefinitely suspended" 67 players, although some reports had the number at 82.

There was even talk that the ban may affect the players in the PSL in South Africa.

Reports quoted Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze and board member Benedict Moyo confirming the block suspension, but today Zifa did a U-turn, with president Cuthbert Dube revealing that only three footballers – Mwanjali, Mushekwi (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Sweswe (Kaizer Chiefs) – have been blacklisted from the Warriors ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi this month.

"As the Zifa president I can categorically say that these three players, I don't want to see them for the Burundi match," Dube said. "For a player of Method's calibre to perform like that [against Cape Verde] it raises a lot of questions."

Dube said yesterday that Zifa would not interfere with the independent Ethics Committee – led by former Supreme Court judge and international cricket match referee Ahmed Ebrahim – currently investigating the Asiagate scandal.

"We have not banned a single player. We don't want to interfere with the work of the Ethics Committee that is why we called them an independent body," said Dube.

"Method Mwanjali, Thomas Sweswe and Nyasha Mushekwi's performance in the last Africa Cup of Nations match against Cape Verde was way, way below par. It is understandable in sport it does happen that one day you can go off form.

"Even the the Mighty Warriors didn't perform well in their recent match, but it complicates things when one is implicated. We are saying these three should definitely and officially not be in the line-up for the Burundi match until they have been cleared by the Ebrahim Committee.

"We feel the situation was compounded by the performance in Cape Verde and we feel we could have won that match and qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations.

"The coach is free to select all the other players mentioned in the report. There hasn't been anything official sent to the players clubs because doing so at this stage means we are interfering with the Ebrahim Committee."

Dube added, however, that if the Ethics Committee does decide to ban the 80 players, they will not participate in Zimbabwe's Nations Cup qualifiers.

Nyasha and Mwanjali are being persecuted for not sponsoring ZANU-PF in the upcoming elections. They are suspected of being MDC. It doesn't make suspense to "ban" a player from the national team for under performing. You simply don't select him!

Jennifer your Zimbabwean boyfriend Ferari just yesterday said Milkshake is not implicated. A day later he is implicated! Kanti whose fooling who eK.O? Kanti whats with this gutteer reporting? It's either you recycle stories or you cook them and feed us lies!

Do think we soccer fans are dunderheads like SABC spokesperson Kaizer who prefers to watch Dunderations and give viewers "delayed live matches"?.
Mr Editor its about time your journalists publicly apologise for making blatant misrepresentations!

The ZIFA is lovable as their suspension has nothing to do with the investigation. I suspect this players refused to give this Pres some money from Mzanzi.

Uncle Bob is angry at the Motaungs, their cheques have been bouncing yet he supply players at low pricing.

If i was Kaizer Motaung Snr, i would get a loan from Motsepe or Khoza, because the R55MILLION he burrowed from Standard bank as an LTL has overcommited the old man, Kaizer Jnr is also not making it with ladies shopping with Josta and their boyfriend pastor Mboro.

Mrs/Mr Editor: please go into details especially here on kickoff forum: there is no criteria: you just register and thus some are just clueless when it comes to commenting: this hasn't as yet affected their careers outside Zimbabwe: so these players are fit, eligible to play for their teams (in this case Chiefs and Downs): I told Mr Editor yesterday that he must be professional when doing his job: you don't assume cos that will misled the ignorance: so now the forum users are making fools of themselves cos they, are lazy to think, ready and do research: this article has been full of pathetic comments, misleading information and I blame the editors for being impatient on getting the results: it's a soapie newspapers, trying to be the first to publish the story but end up the first to talk crap and lies....

King: the issue is not about being guilty or innocent (from my point of view) but jumping to conclusions especially on such fields , where policies, laws, procedures, discipline are concerned: Kickoff is doing a right thing for sharing the news to their clients/customers but they have also have to be careful with some of the sensitive information which might end up , misleading their audience and cause chaos and south african fans being lost: yesterday's article implied a decision affecting their trade in south africa which was not appropriate then: I'm not for or against what these players did, but don't say their conduct has caused them not to play for Downs and Chiefs, respectively while that has not been said: Editors , are human just like us, they grow as all of us, but I believe negative and positive criticism does benefit them: why airing your comment on an invalid article,,,that's not on , my brother:

I also want to applaud ZIFA for this stance & hope this will be settled in due course for all those involved to know their fate.

Looks like this is bigger than everyone realizes because for this investigations to be initiated FIFA is fully aware.

u do know what MAY means, so kick off did nothing wrong.

Dooba OPC: 2012-02-02 17:25

Sh!t, what is a cricket referee doing in football, are you Zims really braindrained to such an extent that no professional is left in that country to deal with what he/she was trained for?

But Sweswe will still play for Chiefs, because Zifa honourary president (Hon. Bobby Motaung) will see to it that the final decision does not affect Chiefs....

Motlokoa  : 2012-02-02 17:29

Wandile : 2012-02-02 17:29

King are you saying it is correct to put up to contradictory stories for the sake of HYPE as you put it? Are you saying bloggers should not speak out against such but should merely refrain from blogging?

In my view these proposition defeats the points you make about ethics. It is unethical for a journalist to pen a story without confirming its tuthfulness. Likewise it is unethical cook up a story.

Granted they are also human beings. Thats why the editor must either summon them to write a follow up clearifying the factual inaccuracies. Manje thina we don't know what is what.

But we can infer that SWESWE is guilty by his association with Family Business fraudsters.

Wandile : 2012-02-02 17:33

Jennifer or Jessica no Fararayi or Ferrari must account. Phela this scandal will have an impact on SA teams given the number of Zimbabweans in SA.

1.According to you Mwanjali & Mushekwi are victims of being anti Zanu & Sweswe is fine he can face the guillotine because he's from Chiefs?
2.You also want Kickoff to get this players side of story, which is practically impossible when facing a hearing to discuss the contents with outside forces.

Mr Editor what you mean these players underperformed? I thing Suffer must investigate CowParker, Majoro, Nyawana and Mfenenyana coz they dont perform as expected everytime they play for BB. Up the bucks till Bobby pays better

Wandile : 2012-02-02 18:42

@TP, I note your concerns. Mara the Zanu-PF/MDC comment was just an indirect swipe at Mugabe.

No K.O shouldn't have went to the players. They simply could have confirmed their story/source with ZIFA. Are you saying ZIFA can on Wednesday say Mushekwi is not baned and do a U-turn on Thursday and say he is banned?

My point is we don't know what to belive and what not to because JESSICA no Ferrari gave us 2 contradictory stories.

Its like Ferrari saying YEYE is handsome and Jessica saying the opposite. What are going to believe if you have not seen a YEYE b4?

As for Sweswe, broer uyazi bathi "an apple doesn't fall far from a tree" thus we can "INFER" not say he is guily but INFER he is by association with fraudsters. I c no bias here.

brazilitto : 2012-02-02 20:27

I have read and read dis story then also read the comments.
I complain about safa and the level of our soccer. But the main problem lies with us fans. Putting the rivalry aside and face the facts. Most soccer fans don't know a thing abt soccer. It all abt noise, noise and lot of it. Just read the story, understand it. Then u can fcukin post your comments. I think pirates is flooded by chivs domkops plus their faithfools are natural domkops.
De zifa president is angry, and he is abusing his power. Simply as that. Playrs under perform and dat y he is angry.

So reading comments abt suspension of players is a shocker. Dis 3 players, are burned not suspended for god sake.

I stand to be corrected
