Lucky Lekgwathi says Orlando Pirates have made good signings

Lekgwathi happy with Bucs’ signings

Posted: 2012-02-01 09:49

Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi is happy with the club’s new signings and says they will give the team more depth as they look to win more domestic silverware as well as mount a strong challenge in this year’s CAF Champions League.

The Buccaneers added Portuguese international Luis Boa Morte, Thabo Matlaba, Sifiso Myeni, Thandani Ntshumayelo and Njabulo Manqana to their ranks during the January transfer window, which closed yesterday.

Pirates were in action over the weekend, posting an impressive 3-1 victory over Angolan outfit Pedro Athletico in a practice match that was played behind closed doors.

The match was meant to give the players a feel for the kind of opposition they are likely to face when they play against FC Libolo on 19 February in the CAF Champions League.

“I am happy with the new players that have come in,” Lekgwathi tells KickOff.com. “They will give us depth and make us stronger in a number of departments.

“We were in action over the weekend and we managed to defeat a very good team from Angola.

“This is a positive result for us because we will probably play against a similar style in our first game of the African Champions League,” adds the Bucs skipper.

Pirates coach Julio Leal will have another chance of honing his strategy on Saturday when his charges take on Inter Luanda, who are in Angola’s top-flight.

Hayi hayi, Ntate Khoza, that shirt baba, yini, excitement? LOL

Good acquisitions by the RATS nonetheless

Feelosopher (The Balotelli of Kick Off.com): 2012-02-01 10:00

BucKHAYA LABADALA FC's recent acquisitions and success remind me of Henry-era ****nal.

They were on fire and everywhere in the media. Kodwa konke lokho kwashabalala and nobody remembers their heydays due to the legendary status and undisputed dominance of Manchester United.

Same goes for Rats....this thing of theirs will fade cause it was written by the Man above that the life of South African football will always be ezandleni zeChiefs. If you dispute such a fact then why do Rats fans always tjatjarag about Chiefs even if they are not against them? Even when Santos is playing Wits they will find something that is related to Chiefs.

Chiefs are the African version of Manchester United.

LEGENDS PREVAIL

LordJerry : 2012-02-01 10:05

Dr Khoza worked his @ss off trying to organise a Africa's world cup.... From 2002-2010 he was busy with that, Remember their 1st bid was 4 the 2006 world cup were they narrowly lost 2 Germany by a single point.....

We Pirates supporters had to understand that he was doing it 4 the nation, while other teams were winning a cup per season we had to take 1 for the nation...

But now he is back, so to all the haters, UNTIL THE NEXT WORLD CUP BID, we will win trophies left, right and centre....

IF U DONT BELIEVE THAT BELIEVE THIS...

I just can't wait for the league to resume. We will be unstoppable for the remainder of the games.

I must say that I'm truly proud the way our team is run. It shows the vision that the Iron Duke himself has for the team. The second star is on the way. While others are singing history, lets rally behind our team to achieve more and more silverware. Once and always a Champ

Feelosopher (The Balotelli of Kick Off.com): 2012-02-01 10:10

I bet you, Manyisa aint happy about Sifiso "Ultra-Ngovolo" Myeni's acquisition since he thought he was the only one at the Rats camp(Gayfair) with the special talent of having canine teeth as incisors at the front row.

Greetings to all the followers of The Dream Team.

I just want to warn you beautiful ghosts of the narrow & troubled road ahead that Pirates will face as we resume the defense of the league title & the Nedbank Cup. Khoza has made excellent acquisitions which even make us scared of the damage that this team could do. The downside of it is not competition or unhappiness amongst players as many would like us to believe but the negative football that the other teams will apply when ever faced with this intimidating Dream Team. They will play for draws or rely on counter attacks which could make our signings useless should we not come with a formidable strategy of unsettling even the most stubborn defence.

Our foes will rejoice in us drawing irrespective of the Santos-Approach football adopted by the opposition. They will start pointing fingers to the bench; with our help Leal will panic as we saw during the first half of the season. Only Sundowns is capable of attacking & withstanding the Undisputed champs (but only if the champs play on 30% capacity), however, this would also be influenced by the log standing. A clever Sundowns coach will play for a draw if they are points ahead instead of risking the lead to a team that will wreak havoc never seen before on the South African soccer scene.

Should problems arise, let us solve them the Pirates way & never be unsettled by the mocking comments of the bankrupt team fans & their so-called soccer ****ysts.

In Pirates we live the dream while others dream the nightmares called Orlando Pirates.

Dooba OPC: 2012-02-01 10:21

Dr. Sokhela is serious about the Caf League, pity father and son at the opposite end have a bizzare way of competing for the local league. Well if they trust with passion that we will win the league with the curent squad, who am I to question that. But if we draw our first two games or lose them, then that is enough for me to be convinced that I should apply for a Moroka Swallows membership before the queue gets longer there.

bucselona : 2012-02-01 10:21

mina i dont understand ukuthi y other teams are complaining coz pirates offloaded about 10 players, including those dat needed game time and bring 5 players in d squad. So, u cn c dat d purpose of pirates was 2 balance d departments where pirates ws lacking. U cn c dat matlaba is in thwala out, myeni in doutie out, ntshumayelo in ngobeni out, manqana in malokase out, boa mortha in mthembu out. In addition 2 dat msowoya N nyanda is out, n other 3 loaned out 2 NFD. Bt fans says pirates hv more players nw. It is jst dat pirates bought quality only dis time, so banomona! Eishss Feelosopher, are you still feeling the pain for the Players Pirates signed? Unfortunately, we can't do anything to "unbreak your heart" there. We just reinforcing our squad cos we are preparing to play in the CAF Champions League because we are the Champions of the PSL-Pirates Soccer league-we are only defending it. In Africa, there is Al Ahly of Egypt they have won the Champions League 7 times, Domestic league more than 12 times so therefore they should be the Manchester or Madrid of Africa!! If you feel that the pain of Orlando Pirates success in your heart is causing you a heart attack....sms "khosi", the Kaizer Chiefs funeral services will help. for quicker and efficient service call Bobby Motaung but carefull he might tell you "Voetsek la"!!

Ernest you omiited what Lucky Okapi said further; "I am also happy because Boa Morte is Portugeese and only interested in Nandos with Peri peri. Matlaba only knows how to use a knob kerrie coming from Free State.

Myeni is a vampire and only uses his traditional weapon; his teeth. I am not scared of LOVE bites.

And last, Ntshumayelo is a Mshumayeli (preacher) therefore a man of peace.

My only competitor in terms of WEAPONS OF MASS DISTRUCTION is Pistol Mhlongo abo maNecklace and obviously the Dr Colonel Chairman Marifle. I would like to thank the chairman for keeping me King of OKAPI. Thank you chairman".

@The Prince,

First of all, Ntshumayelo is not Ngobeni. Just because Ngobeni did not make does not mean he will also not make it. when you join a team of champions there are no guarantees that you will get regular game time but with hard work and dedication he will succeed because this boy is very talented. Myeni was signed by management and recommended by technical team which also includes the coach.

Mr Price I hav ur answers: coaches recommend players to the chairmans.chairmans buy players based on the vission of the team and the coach. Ngobeni wanted to play and at dat time Jali and Manyisa were better than him but that does not mean that Jali and Manyisa would be better than Thandani, he would have to prove himself to the coach that he deserve the first place.

Activist: 2012-02-01 11:18

Something tells me these guys will regret moving to Pirates. There are many more talented players who had to move because they weren't getting game time (e.g. Mongalo-to-Celtics, Doutie-to-SSU, Ngobeni-to-Arrows, Gert-to-Santos and others).

It seems more difficult for SA players from the so-called big teams to move overseas. Whereas the so-called smaller teams like Ajax, Wits, Arrows seem to be sending players overseas with relative ease. I wonder why?

A warning to Pirates: with two cups to go which they will both be defending: why fix what is not broken (does these words sound familiar): Lil Wayne came when Krol had instilled the winning mentality kwi Pirates: we have seen a somewhat different Pirates, when it comes to entertaining football and it really shows the signs of Pirates going through a decrease kwi performance graph: we have had even some fans from ghosts being sceptical and having a thin patience on their coach but now with the new signings, Pirates is going through a phase where they are doing what is unncessary (building) while they have already have an empire: so a warning to Pirates fans, DON'T THINK these new additions will only add value but can also wreck what you have built; so next season , you will have new combinations, new strategies, new tactics, new players and yet you will facing new reality cos next season, all the sleeping giants will be there for a kill: if you defend the Nedbank cup , thank your gods as for the league, it's heading to Downs, Supersports, not writing off, amakhosikazi: mouth too can buy your dreams...

Diehardbucs : 2012-02-01 11:25

@Sizwe;If a team registers 36 or 40 players, there is no rule which says only 1st 11 must be superstars nd the rest be average players.A team is allowed to have the best 40 players, nomatter some wl sit on the bench or stand nd the coach must chose the best current perfoming players, regardless who sit on the bench.Even Sangweni can be benched depending on other players perfomance. We can still sign Pelembe,Yeye,Nyawana,Kuboni and Khune on top of what we have nd this is called a starsturded team or a galuxy of stars.Football 101 was mastered at the university of Orlando.
