Ghana want to win Nations Cup group

Ghana seeks smooth passage

Posted: 2012-02-01 09:48

Ghana will be bidding to seal a quarter-final place at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations as they face Guinea later this evening.

The Black Stars are on six points from two games and are yet to concede a goal but come up against a Guinea side who put six past Botswana in their last game.

The permutations for Ghana are simple. A draw will guarantee top spot in Group D as will a win. The Black Stars could still even go through with a loss granted it is not heavy.

While the Ghana team has spoken of their readiness of facing any opposition there, there be many in the team uncomfortable about their prospect facing co-host Gabon if they finish second in the group.

There is likely to be at least two changes for the Black Stars. It is widely expected that Sulley Muntari will start from the bench with Samuel Inkoom due to come in. Isaac Vorsah is also due to partner John Boye at the heart of defence.

Ghana can reach a century of goals at the Nations Cup after Dede Ayew scored the country's 99th in the competition against Mali but that will not be the priority.

It will be to win, top group D and stay in Franceville where Tunisia await.

I smell same disappointment if Mali beat Botswan 5 nil and Guinea beat Ghana 1 nil who da media gonna talk about???

Simo, I cannot see Guinea beating Ghana..but per your prediction, Ghana still qualify and as group winners even if they lose 1-0 to Guinea. It's amazing that even if Guinea are able to beat Ghana 3-0, Ghana still qualify in second place...Only a 4-0 win for Guinea will take Ghana out...

I think SA media is at it again misleading the public,or is it because they undermine Guinea?to them is it obvious that Ghana will beat Guinea? Here is the mathematical possibility:If Guinea beat Ghana by just one goal to nil then Guinea will have 7 points with a goal difference of +5 Ghana will be left with 6 points and a goal difference of +2,Mali has 4 points and a goal difference of -1 if they beat Botswana by just 4 goals to nil they will have 7 points and a goal difference of +3 which means ghana will be out.For Ghana to qualify the least they can do is draw, they will have 7 points and the same goal difference of +3 and if Mali win by 5 goals they will top the league and Ghana will be 2nd

@Nicky. You got your maths wrong. Guinea with a victory would put them on 6 points.Ghana would also have 6 and with Mali beating Botswana would put Mali on 6. SO come again with your ****ysis please

Simo, it's obvious you have no idea how the head too head record works...no wonder bafana didnt qualify but I was thinkig we would have learnt from our mistakes and read about the rule but no, simo is on here showing his ignorance...
And Nick??? How does Guinea get 7pts after beating Ghana(cannot happen btw)??? Are you watching the games at all? People need to research a lil before jumping on here and writing nonsense...
