'Shabba', forget about Palace

'Shabba', forget about Palace

Posted: 2012-01-27 15:51

Siphiwe Tshabalala must cut his losses and sign a new contract with Kaizer Chiefs.

Tshabalala's situation with Crystal Palace is well documented and, reading between the lines, it is clear Palace are uncertain whether they want him. At the moment, they say they can only make a decision whether to sign him in June and meanwhile Kaizer Chiefs, who have offered him a three-year deal, are waiting on him to make a decision.

Shabba is obviously on playing overseas, but I totally agree with some KickOff.com readers such as Mukai, who says: "Palace does not want him enough and are just toying with the poor chap", and I couldn't agree more with Siyaz, who says: "Shabba, sign the Chiefs contract. These moegoes are taking you for a ride. They can see you are desperate to play overseas."

Tshabalala went for a look at Palace or as Palace boss Dougie Freedman puts it: "Not a trial as such; it's really for him to see if he likes us and if we like him", but no deal has been forthcoming since Tshabalala came back home from England.

Crucially, the player is in the last six [6] months of his contract with Chiefs and that simply means any other interested team, specifically Palace, can tie him down to a pre-contract and move him for free at the end of June. Palace are obviously aware of Tshabalala's contract situation with Chiefs, but in my view Palace are dithering because they don't want him.

If not, why are Palace waiting for June knowing they have an opportunity to sign the player on a pre-contract now?

On the other hand, Tshabalala has asked Chiefs for three days to think over his future which means his decision is expected anytime now and he probably feels the pressure to give Chiefs an answer. But with Palace considering a deal in June, imagine if Tshabalala tells Chiefs to wait for until the end of the season…

This situation puts Tshabalala between a rock and a hard place, because the longer he keeps Chiefs waiting the club at large may question his commitment and knowing South African soccer fans well, the player could be subjected to boos and all simply because he may be reluctant to sign a new contract with Chiefs before he finds out the actual intentions of Palace in June.

Right now he is facing a lose-lose situation; Chiefs fans may turn on him if he delays any longer to sign a new deal and Palace may not offer him a deal in June.

If I were Tshabalala, I would sign the new contract offered by Chiefs because Palace don't seem really interested otherwise they wouldn't wait until June.

Alternatively, if Palace are really interested the best time to sign Tshabalala is now for reasons I mentioned earlier.

It is now or never.

Shabba must 4get about Palace and luk 4 another team abroad. It will be unwise 4 him to sign a contract with chips cause once there;s an interest from any team,he will b priced out of de market.

philemon : 2012-01-27 16:53

And why only Palace? What about 420 teams who play first league in Europe? Are they the only team ready for south africans? That is sad. They do not look very good anyway. They are not for promotion. I am sure the top teams in Msanzi can destroy Palace and smash the crystalany day.

TTM: 2012-01-27 16:59

Ayoba, let me explain. Shabba's contract with Chiefs expires at the end of June, which simply means that with less than six [6] months remaining on his contract other teams, as per FIFA rules, are now free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with him & that's why Palace can get him on a free transfer [they don't have to pay Chiefs if they sign a pre-contract with 'Shabba' now] and after finalising everything, all Palace need to do is wait for until the end of the season before they get him for FREE in case of a pre-contract. So Palace can sign him now on a pre-contract and don't pay anything. I hope you are not lost anymore.

Mamoduwe : 2012-01-27 17:16

This situation remains a Catch 22 situation for the player and Nazoorena officials.

Shabba does not have to stress out that much compared to his Zoo officials. The only risk he faces is that of injuries or being denied game time, but looking at the chimpanzees current league status, they NEED him more than ever.

The man who should be making all the running-around is the latter's agents, Mr. Jazzman, this agent is letting Shabba down, period. He's directing unnecessary pressure at the wrong end of the tunnel, which is Kaizer Chimbabwe.

Why does he treat Crystal Palace with kid's gloves, while being ruthless to HOBOS? Is Crystal Palace the only team in the world? Throughout his experience did he ever have to wait weeks to months for a team to make a decision?

Crystal Palace are dragging their feed, full stop. They undermine Shabba and Kaizer Chimbabwe. Anyhow,

@TTM.......i like your comment,i also think they don"t need him, couse they have a chance to get him for free by signing a pre-contract with him and get him for free after six months, couse once he signs with chiefs its gonna be very defficult for them to pay the money that chiefs will put on his head.unfortunately we don"t need him at yellow nation he"s overrated.

TTM: 2012-01-27 17:54

Ayoba, that's your view and I fully respect that. However, I'm sorry you seem to have no idea how pre-contracts work. I repeat; if Palace are serious about Shabba this is the best time to sign him because they basically get him for free on a pre-contract, so they don't have to pay Chiefs a transfer fee as they can wait for the pre-contract to kick in on July 1 after Shabba's contract expires on June 30. They don't have to pay Chiefs a cent because he is in the last six [6] months of his contract, unless of course they want him during the January transfer window then they will have to pay Chiefs. Furthermore if Shabba doesn't sign a new contract with Chiefs or with another club between now and June, Palace can still get him for free at the end of June but my point is if Palace are being truthful that they want him, why wait for June? What are they waiting for? Ayoba, I'd advice you to read the FIFA rules pertaining to contracts espeically on the part relating to the last six months of a player's contract.

Our case in point is the story around Siphiwe Tshabalala whose current situation continues to attract interesting comments from so-called soccer experts that have gone on to warn us not to “harm” the player. These may be speaking from position of ignorance since they do not have the slightest of clues on the dynamics surrounding his anticipated move or stay at Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile we cannot be held to ransom by such indecisiveness whilst the deadline for acquisitions is drawing close. It would help us at this stage to know so that we consolidate our plans for the future instead of being kept in the dark and unfortunately condemned as “hurting” the player. Kaizer Motaung

Vusi: 2012-01-29 12:22

Siphiwe "going and staying at the same tym" Thsabalala,, pliz stop holding us at ransom, we have to move....decide...FAST!!!!

maphuti : 2012-01-29 14:28

Shabba don't sign that contract till end. Of the season, if nothing comes up then and Chiefs's offer still stands, then negotiate the salary and sign. But my advise is, don't sign that new deal from Chiefs. VV will be gone next season, so keep that in mind as well.

In June you will get better offers from this teams: Supersport, Sundowns, Pirates, Palace(don't sign for them either)

Before I go, let me say Bobby se gat from destroying our once beloved team. Its sad to read about teams doing what they want in the market and we are suppose(according to steak-bobby) to be happy that he renewed contracts instead of signing Myeni, Phungwayo, Mathoho, Isaacs, Monama, Tukane, Molongwane and maybe Gould.

But I forgive him coz since the coach is leaving end of the season, there is no need to get new players in. VV must work with what he has now and voetsek at the end of the season. Then the new coach( hopefully local, Steve, Gordon or Tovey) will bid for players they need and get rid of old players like Yende(who forged his age). Next season we want a performing squad, not this bunch of Hobbos, sies I'm fed up with this Steak

Guys Tiyani makes a good point. With Shabba on his last 6 months he needs to sign a pre contract now or extend at Chiefs. Ayobaaah! Palace if really wanted Shabba they would have signed a pre- contract with him, pre -contract means they don't pay anything for him but when June comes he will join them on a free without any worry about somebody else snapping him. Chiefs have a right to put him under pressure because the oppotunity is open for others to take him. If Palace value him they would have tied him with the pre contract to avoid other vultures from taking him as it is it shows that they don't care if he signs for anyone else. As for Tim, what if Shabba gets a major injury (out for a year and a half or so) within this 6 months while he didn't extend his stay at Chiefs and hasn't signed any pre contract? . So Tim it's about him getting insurance and cover his future.

BTR: 2012-01-29 17:44

Honestly, SA supporters are so poor when it comes to football knowledge. Tiyani, this Ayoba guy is clearly lost and does not know how this(contract rules)works nor does he understand what you are saying. Really poor understanding and very sad indeed.

khulekani : 2012-01-30 06:00

@Tiyani you don't have to repeat yourself real soccer followers know precontract rules. If Palace were serious they would have already given Shaba a precontract without paying Chiefs anything. Tiyani these are the same fans who celebrated with Bafana claiming that they understand rules only to be disappointed. Shaba must sign with Chiefs or a pre contract with anyone for free finish and klaar.

kasiologist: 2012-01-30 09:25

A while ago you, yes you Tiyani, wrote a piece about SA players subjected to trials in Europe, made a whowha about that, this after Mphela failed to secure a contract in Scotland.

Fast forward to 2012 and we are sitting here mulling over whether Shabba should sign with Chiefs or keep waiting for a pre-contract from any interested party. Does your opinion of our players getting straight contracts in Europe still stand when a senior national team player cannot even attract serious interest even if he is on a free transfer?

On the topic, the 3 days are up and as Bobby had said before the 3 day request from Shabba camp, the deal should be off since the player has no intention of signing.

The Sticknbkid: 2012-01-30 10:06

@TTM, thanks for this article. Many of us here, I would think we know soccer (maybe claim we do) but surely don't understand the business side of it. This Shabba matter is a business side of football of which many of us don't seem to understand. Myself, I learnt one or two things from this article.

Back to the subject at hand, I think Palace don't wanna gamble by giving Shabba a contract. What does that mean, it simple means he's not exactly what they are looking for but can settle for him/less should they not find a better player from now on. I'm a loyal KC fan but truth be told, Shabba does not have what it takes to make it even in the Championship in UK. His crosses are mostly wack, not mentioning his inability to use both legs. This is something he could have practised and improve on but since he came to KC, I don't see any improvement. The failure of RSA players overseas recently really doesn't auger well for any RSA player trying to pursue a move there.

Mfana Wa Style: 2012-01-30 12:51

Disappointing ****ysis by TTM, it clearly shows that he lacks understanding of what is at stakes here. let me assist you TTM on why this is a win-win situation for Shabba:

1. As a free agent, Shabba personal worth will escalate, almost double because whoever signs for will not have to pay exorbitant transfer fees which goes to the team and not the player.

2. As a free agent, Shabba is in no rush because without a doubt, there's many teams who will quee to sign him locally and abroad, even if its not in his desired league but his worth will be more

3. While waiting for Palace, another team may just come and offer him a better deal than Chiefs

As for your suggestion of boos, well you just trying to incite teh Chiefs supporters to boo Shabba, nothing more nothing less. the man is 27, has a big reputation and the next contract will probably be his last big money signing, so unless Chiefs offer him what he wants, he has to try and make the best of this situation. the man has to eat, watching you coulleagues earning so much at other teams while you compare favourable to them but earning less is not ayoba.
