Lionel Messi on the cover of Time magazine
Time on Messi's side – mostly

Lionel Messi is on the iconic Time magazine cover – but not in the United States.
Messi joins the elite group of history makers who have graced the cover of Time, including Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Jackson, Albert Einstein and Nelson Mandela.
UPDATE: KickOff.com has been reminded that Benni McCarthy also featured on the cover of Time, for the Africa-specific cover ahead of the 2002 World Cup. Check that cover out on Facebook HERE!
Messi currently features on the cover of the Europe, Asia and South Pacific editions of Time, while the US edition's cover shows a small man, standing in a corner with a megaphone, with the header 'The power of shyness'.
It seems Time's US editorial team was concerned that the young Argentine legend is just not famous enough to seduce an American audience – although you could argue he is the perfect illustration of the 'power of shyness' …
Of the two editions, the Time magazine we at KickOff.com would choose every time features a extreme close-up of the 'Atomic Flea', with the text 'King Leo: Lionel Messi is the best football player in the world – possibly of all time. So why won't his countrymen love him?'
It's an interesting question – you'll have to buy the latest Time to find out their answer. In the meantime, have your say on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/kickoffmagazine.
