Peterborough United's Kgosi Nthle called up by South Africa's Under-20 side

Nthle invited to join Amajita

KickOff.com has found out that Kgosi Nthle from English Championship side Peterborough United has been invited to link up with South Africa's Under-20 side in March.

The 17-year-old defender was born in Pretoria but moved to the UK six years ago and was awarded a senior contract with Darren Ferguson's side last year. And after telling KickOff Magazine last year that it is his dream to represent Bafana Bafana, Safa officials have invited him to join the Amajita squad in preparation for their first match in qualification for the 2013 African Youth Championships.

"They've been in touch with him and the club to ask permission so people seem to be aware of him in South Africa," says Edwin Stein, a former professional who was born in Cape Town and spotted Nthle playing for his school at the age of 13.

"They would like to him to come and train with the squad in March so we will see what happens."

Nthle spent part of the season on loan to non-league St Albans City but was an unused substitute for Peterborough's Championship match with Hull last weekend.

He has been tipped to make his first-team debut soon by the club's youth team coaches, although Stein thinks Ferguson will still give him permission to join up with the Amajita squad.

"From Peterborough's perspective, they just want him to grow and experience as much football as he can so it's definitely a possibility," he says.

"If he does represent his country, then I think it will add to his confidence and make Kgosi realise how hard he has to work to make it to the top. Peterborough invest in their young players and realise that they need to promote them from the youth team because of the size of the club. I would guess that he will make his full debut before long because they think very highly of him there."
