Mahlangu heading to Holland

Posted: 2012-01-26 09:26

May Mahlangu’s agent admits the midfielder could be on his way to Holland, but the move is unlikely to happen until June.

The 22-year-old from Mpumalanga is currently in pre-season training with Swedish club Helsingborgs and has been tipped for a switch to Dutch giants Feyenoord.

But while he would not confirm the name of the clubs interested in signing Mahlangu, agent Nadeem Mahmood admits the Eredivisie is the likely destination for him.

“There has been a lot of interest from Holland but most want him to join in June,” Mahmood tells KickOff.com.

“The options are quite big so we will have to see which one is going to come through. We haven’t closed any deal with anyone yet, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this month. May will be at Helsingborgs for the start of the new season in March.”

Mahlangu was voted Swedish Player of the Year following his performances for Helsingborgs as they won an unprecedented treble of trophies last season. And Mahmood is confident that the Stars of Africa academy graduate will be able to make the transition to a better league when he eventually moves.

“I believe it would be a good step for him at this stage of his career because it is important that he goes through the stages,” he says.

“Another two years at a good team and then he will be ready to move onto a higher level but it is important that he goes to a team where he can play.”
