Nigeria midfielder Christian Obodo denies assault

Obodo protests innocence

Posted: 2012-01-25 14:43

Nigeria midfielder Christian Obodo has strongly denied reports that he helped assault a Nigerian lady in Italy over four years ago.

Italian reports, subsequently picked up by Nigerian media claimed that the victim, Cynthia Obasegie, named the midfielder as one of two men who assaulted her in 2007 and that the Lecce man now faces the prospect of jail time.

It is a claim that both Obodo, and Ms Obasegie strongly refute "I couldn't believe it when I saw it," Obodo told KickOffNigeria.com as he narrated the events that took place on the day.

"All i did was try to make peace. I had just come back from a game and stopped at the African store owned by Obidike Okechukwu when I saw Cynthia, who I call Lilly being assaulted by her ex Damian Uwaoma.

"Since I did not want her to get hurt, I tried to calm her down and get her into the office and away from the fight. After that, I left.

"When the case went to court, I got a letter asking me to appear as a witness. By the time I appeared, Mr Uwaoma and his advisers had changed things and accused me of assaulting her."

Obodo's version of events is corroborated by the victim "He came in, and when he saw what was going in, he pulled me away and took me inside.

"He always calls me Mama Lilly, and He did not act like a star and ignore what was going on. He tried to protect me," Ms Obasegie said. "And when I went to court, I told them that all he did was try to be a peace maker.

"If it wasn't for Christian, maybe I would have been worse, and that is what I told the judge. I don't know how they are now saying he assaulted me.

"Maybe they are trying to make only from him."

Obodo told KickOffNigeria.com that he is confident of emerging innocent, and keen to take the matter further in order to clear his name.

But for his hair-do, may be I would have trusted him more...It may have been difficult to differentiate Obodo from the woman he's claiming to protect assuming they wore similar hair-do at such instance!

This same Sh*t happens here in America. You try to help and you might end up being sued.
So because he is a star and makes good money her advisors told her to sue him and get his money.
I am glad she told the truth if not, no one will believe him.
Classic case of corruption being weaved into our blood system. Every trying to take advantage of another all in the name of making money and getting rich overnight.

Peruse and take a proper ****ysis of these three aspects of the story :
(a) "All i did was try to make peace. I had just come back from a game and stopped at the African store owned by Obidike Okechukwu when I saw Cynthia, who I call Lilly being assaulted by her ex Damian Uwaoma.

(b) "When the case went to court, I got a letter asking me to appear as a witness. By the time I appeared, Mr Uwaoma and his advisers had changed things and accused me of assaulting her."

(c) "He always calls me Mama Lilly, and He did not act like a star and ignore what was going on. He tried to protect me," Ms Obasegie said. "And when I went to court, I told them that all he did was try to be a peace maker.

"If it wasn't for Christian, maybe I would have been worse, and that is what I told the judge. I don't know how they are now saying he assaulted me.
....................................................................

Christian my brother, you should've ignored them , now you are being charged of assault after your good Samaritan assistance.
If you're innocent, then be confident and God will see you through.
My only concern is that Western judicial interpretation and application of cases involving blacks ( especially Nigerians) are different from white to white cases.
Secondly, Mr Uwaojoo is possibly up to some mischief; maybe he's conniving with some criminals to milk your account or to bring you down....ndi igbo sef.

Meanwhile, what is Miss Obasegie doing in Italy ???? lol.

In the States, if someone is in an accident and you help them, get out of the car. lets say right after you did that, the car caught on fire or lets say the car wa***** by another car and that person would have died if you didn't help pull them out of that car.
Well, do not be surprised when that person sues you for MILLIONS of dollars for "having a stiff back" or "sore neck" etc.
This is what we humans have become. We take advantage of people (even those trying to help us.)

OBODO'S CASE:

Obodo has nothing to fear. The facts of the case is glaring. The lady he is accussed of assaulting says she wasn't assaulted. CASE DISMISSED!

NFF WAHALA:

As major stakeholders of Nigerian football what is your take on the ongoing brouhaha, should NFF be dissolved or the board be goarded to resign or Sam Jaja be settled out of court?

For me, I earnestly hope and pray that the board spare us more pain by resigning. Their reign has brought too much ruin and controversies to the game.

State your mind. Very important persons take our views seriously on this site! Cheers!
