'Morris, Schalkwyk just what we needed'

Santos captain Tyren Arendse has welcomed the club's new signings Nasief Morris and Gert Schalkwyk, saying it's just what they needed.

The People's Team have announced the signing of Morris from SuperSport United and Schalkwyk who was unattached.

Arendse says that from a young age you could see that Morris, who is in his second stint with Santos, was destined for greater heights and it is no surprise that he has achieved so much.

"I think it's a great signing for a team like Santos because there is a lot of youngsters in the team and with his kind of experience, I'm adamant that he will bring in a different dimension," Arendse says.

"Look at the teams he's played for. He's got the experience you can't buy. It is no secret that we need that type of experience to help improve our current log position.

"I can only hope he will come in and add value and share his experiences with the youngsters."

The signing of Schalkwyk is expected to either be a hit or miss, given the talented player's recent struggles.

"Just like Morris, Gert is very experienced and he adds a lot because he played for both the big teams in the country. We needed them both and I hope the dimension they bring will make us stronger," Arendse says.

Schalkwyk has not played football for an estimated period of six months, but Arendse says it's those kinds of things that make a player hungrier for success.

"I've been in that situation before, I didn't have a club and so I didn't play football, but when Santos signed me again I was hungrier to succeed and all in all I needed was to play," he says.

"I missed the game so much and I can only predict the same for Gert (Schalkwyk)," concluded Arendse.

Gucci Man, maybe it's the politics. you will never know. The thing is, to stay and also play abroad, you need a certain number of games you need to play for your country. Nassief was no longer in the picture with Bafana Bafana, whatever he might have said, and I think maybe the whole thing affected his career. We can only speculate.
