Da Gama: Thwala will add depth to defence

Posted: 2012-01-25 07:17

Platinum Stars coach Owen da Gama is confident that the arrival of defender Lucas Thwala will plug some of the loopholes that were exposed during the first half of the season.

Da Gama had been looking for a reliable central defender and recently turned down a Zambian player after an unsuccessful trial stint.

Thwala together with Patrick Malokase and Chiukepo Msowoya were released to Dikwena by Orlando Pirates until the end of the season.

"I am happy with the players because they will add on to the depth of the side," Da Gama tells KickOff.com.

"I am particularly happy with Thwala because we were facing a number of challenges in our defence. It created a lot of headaches when the players became injured because we were thin on replacements.

"I have worked with him before when I was coach at Orlando Pirates so I am looking forward to the reunion. All these new players, however, will have to work hard to get places in the team and I am happy that the competition will bring out the best in everyone," adds Da Gama.

The Platinum Stars coach also revealed that his charges drew 0-0 against Hwange FC of Zimbabwe during a practice match that was played at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace behind closed doors.

"They [Hwange FC] are preparing for their upcoming season so they gave us a good game. I am happy that our players had another runaround and this will keep them fit," says Da Gama.

We as Bucs fans might not know the reason behind releasing players but as for Thwala , i think he is one player that we will really need , more expecially for caf , he is tough and we need players of his structure to match african gaint strikers. we need him back. Bucs by nature.

@ Gucci Man
That's the nature of technical management at Bucs, and it is fair.
When one player is doing well in the team, Bucs does not push that player into the bench because someone is back from injury.

Mhlongo was a regular player and captain before he got injured.
Jali and Ngobeni combined well to cover.
Ngobeni got injured later, and Manyisa got a chance to play with Jali.
Now that Mhlongo is back, Bucs cannot relegate Manyisa or Jali who collected all the PSL titles in 2011.

That's what we call "Galaxy of stars"
