Reserve League: United beat Pirates

Posted: 2012-01-24 09:56

SuperSport United started the Gauteng Reserve League beating Orlando Pirates 2-1 at the University of Pretoria Sports Grounds.

Mame Niang was the hero for United scoring a brace and Lizo Mjembu scored for Pirates, who had Tebogo Moloi in charge of the team in the absence coach Julio Leal.

The teams played good football with Pirates dominating the first-half and United creating more scoring opportunities in the second half.

Hunt surprised everyone when playing Glen Salmon as a defender and the former Bafana Bafana striker did well to keep the Bucs strikers led by Bongani Ndulula at bay.

Bucs gave fringe players Njabulo Ntusi, Dikgang Mabalane, Brighton Mhlongo, Mark Mayambela and Lucas Thwala a chance to play.

United left out goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez and Ricardo Katza in their line-up.

Despite the loss, Moloi is happy about the initiative to start a Reserve League.

"I think this is a good initiative that is very good especially to the guys that normally don't get game time in their teams. They will need to take it seriously as it will also help them gain fitness," says Moloi.

Hunt says he was hoping to give more youngsters a chance in their next game.

"I would love to give more chances to the youngsters but unfortunately most of them are not registered," says Hunt.

Meanwhile the Reserve League game between Jomo Cosmos and FC AK Could not be completed due to poor weather in Boksburg. The game was stopped in the 40th minute with Ezenkosi leading 1-0.

The game between Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits ended goalless while Moroka Swallows drew 1-1 against Atlie FC with Malian striker Cisse Cheik scoring the goal for the Dube Birds.

If you are a player and warm the bench of the researve league, I advice you to just go finish matric and work like the rest of us... It is good that we have this league, it keeps our players busy than warming the bench all season long. What needs to be done is to now fire Pitso, and our soccer will start healing towards the right direction.

Dooba OPC: 2012-01-24 10:41 [ Report ]

I hear you very well outie yami but do you really think the problem is with Pitso ?

I don't like his(Pitso) arrogance and his stupid endless commemnts about our national team....BUT if I have to be honest with you ...we(South Africa) don't have a talent at the moment.

Our football took 10 steps backwards . It's gonna take maybe another decade to regain our form,standard.....now we are avarage...its sad but the truth .

@ Gucci,

It is chiefs that do not have talent & is 10 years behind. Had Pitso not selected the cows at your farm into his Hlokoloza team, BB would have qualified.

@ Gucci,

The trend still continues, why select Lebese instead of Myeni for example? It is not about having limited talent but about how one uses the players at his disposal without favour.

Ungakhinyeki since you can think...

Gucci Man

Statistically and historically its impossible to for this country to have players, but as things stand, it is possible that we may not have good people to naurture good players. Our problems has never been the skill in the field (this I will not accept at all), our problem has always been the question of our lifestyle which is characterised by:
-low self-confidence (i mean if a player gets into the field with Ronaldinho just to get his jersey, what do you call such?),
-lack of discipline (how many players have we buried since the year 2000, how many have we seen going to jail, how many do we meet in nightclubs to this day?),
-lack of decision-making skills (how many players know the basics of when to pass and when to shoot in the 18 areas?)

I can name many other horrors and all of them have little to do with skill in the pitch. So our coaches or the coaches hired by Safa either (1) dont know the culture of these boys, meaning what they need and what they dont need to be good players, because they would be foreign coaches. They just assume they know the basics until they lose 4 games in a row because of silly mistakes like "miscues" or off-sides. (2) If they are local coaches, they all the time lack the very basics their players are lacking simply because they are products of the same pot, cooked with the same ingridients, just in different times. Our coaches are arrogant; instead of booasting players morale or doing the nation a favour by doing the modest thing of quiting, they hang on for money's sake...

I blame the coaches, not the players because the coaches are the ones who should break this vicious cycle because of their maturity. E.g. If in the family the father and grandfather were hardcore criminals, and the son becomes a criminal too, who should be held accountable? None, but it is the responsibility of the father to teach his son the right ways...

Sorry for the essay!

To hell with Pierats!!: 2012-01-24 12:53

So Ndununu was marked out of the game by Glen Salmon. Talk about strikers.

Watch M.Niang, at your age Dr.Toothless Khoza is looking for all the has-beens he can get to his Tehuis(Old Age Home).Having socred a brace, you're in his radar, and before the end of the window period, you'll be lining up along with four of the PSL Ol'Timers( L.Lekgwathi, B.McFarty, L.Motha and A.Jali), where you'll be more welcome.
