Golden Arrows have signed former Ivory Coast goalkeeper Stefan Loboue on an 18-month contact in a bid to solve their goalkeeping crisis.
Loboue is the second goalkeeping signing made by coach Muhsin Ertugral since a flurry of criticism for Helton da Rocha towards the end of last year.
Loboue, who was a member of the Ivory Coast squad at the 2006 World Cup and played in the semi-final of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, was born in Germany to an Ivorian father and German mother.
He had been without a contract since leaving German Second Division club Rot-Weiss Oberhausen at the end of last season. To keep fit he had been training at Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, who then recommended him to Ertugral.
Arrows have already signed Andre Petim on an 18-month loan from Ajax Cape Town to add to the goalkeepers they had at the start of the season – Da Rocha, Virgil Vries and Nkosingiphile Gumede.
Ertugral blamed Da Rocha for several slips soon after taking over. The Brazilian, who joined the club four seasons ago, is also injury prone.
Arrows, seeking to get themselves out of the relegation zone, have been among the busier clubs in the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates midfielder Clifford Ngobeni has still not completed his move to Abafana Bes'thende, but the player’s business manager, Rob Moore, says he hopes transfer will be completed "in the next few days".
