Celtic reject Mzava offer

Bloemfontein Celtic and Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv have failed to agree terms on the transfer of Limbikani Mzava.

Mzava is still in Israel, where he made an immediate impact but the Malawian international is returning to South Africa on Tuesday.

"Mzava is coming back on Tuesday. Tel Aviv wanted to take him on loan [for a fee of approximately R100 000] with an option to buy him at the end of the season and they wanted the amount of a possible permanent transfer fee to be included now and Celtic didn't want that," says Walter Mokoena, who is Mzava's business manager.

Tel Aviv were offering approximately R1.2 million to buy Mzava outright at the end of the season, but Celtic feel they need time to assess the real value of the player and that's why they opted to ignore discussing a permanent transfer fee now.

"Celtic only wanted the loan amount [R100 000] to be included and to then discuss a permanent transfer fee at the end of the season," Mokoena adds.

All is not lost for Mzava, though, as there is a Danish club that is interested in having a look at him.

"There is a club in Denmark that wants to look at him. They are in pre-season there and they want him to go to Portugal, where they would have pre-season.

"I will tell you more about it at a later stage," Mokoena says.
