Mikel reveals injury setback

Posted: 2012-01-23 06:50

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has explained that his continued absence from the Blues match day squad is down to a recurring injury problem.

Mikel was again missing as Chelsea laboured to a 0-0 draw at Norwich City on Saturday, but the midfielder told KickOffNigeria.com it was down to a recurrence of his previous injury.

"I came back to training too quick and pulled the abductor muscle again," the Nigeria midfielder said. "So it's another two to three weeks or so."

Mikel was forced off injured in Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Tottenham HotSpur last December with the initial injury and was expected to be out for two weeks.

Damm... I dont know why we hate Mikel so much? He is at the moment the only Nigerian Player in a Top Club, Plus he allways played in the past for so many Chelsea coaches...!

So what is our Problem with Mikel? Its not easy to play for Nigeria under so much corruption.... Or am I wrong?

gerry: 2012-01-23 13:41

Just to translate Akpaamu. it means Testicles. I think Mikel refused to sign an autograph for Mr Testicles.

9ja Guy: 2012-01-23 14:33

make una leave this thing, Mikel has his life to live if he want to be great player nobody stop him to archive that, according to great Pele till messi score 1000 goals b4 he will accept that messi i is great footballer at lest Pele has set a standerd, for me the praises for Mikel is over hype, i wonder what the mailians will praise keita of Barcelona maybe the god of African football cause with style keita as won everything in club football even double.

Game147: 2012-01-23 15:29

Mikel Obi was never over-hyped. He's a talent but he chose the wrong club. If Mikel had gone to Man U,he would have been a great player. No one can doubt his vision and passing skills. Mikel was second best behind the current soccer god (messi) in 2005, people should also remember that the likes of Fabregas were also at that tournament but Mikel outshined most of them. One wonders why this issue keep coming up and always causing unsavorlry exchanges.

Mikel chop anybody amalaand ewedu soup?????

Anyway, HATERED OF THE HIGH IS AN INVOLUNTARY HOMAGE OF THE LOW.

Mikel played at the U-17 and U-20 ,winning silver at U-20,won three F.a cup ,one carling cup, Champions league silver and premier league with Chelsea, African young player 2005, e.t.c.
We should ask ourselves an honest question : Mikel plays for Chelsea....which club do we play for ????.
Maybe we play for Ochanja market fc, Ariaria Fc, Yankwura market kano Fc ,Alaba international market fc or bad-belle and obiakpo L.g.a fc....lol.
A critic is a legless man who teaches running.

okoribe1: 2012-01-23 16:10

hey guys,i think mikel should leave chelsea to find his feet again,he became a defensive player when he moved there,if u watch chelsea;s game featuring mikel u will see that he is good but he lacks pace and he is lost his magic touch, most probably he is playing to coaches instruction.
@akpaamu,u re a mistake to ur parents who brought u to this word, they should have used the time to train a goat,at least its going to be better than u ewu meeeeee.

Let's cease from insulting those whose views do not agree with your own.

Those who are for Mikel and those who are against Mikel, have one thing in common: THEY WANT TO SEE MIKEL FLOURISH!

I am personally disappointed at the way things have turned out for Mikel. I blame him for his woes. Why? Pride. This guy has to humble himself and fight his way back to the top where he belongs.

Mikel is too laid back. He lacks the fighting spirit you see the likes of Alex Song, Romeu, Ramires, et al. He seems content with playing for a 'big club'.

I will not line up behind those who have written Mikel off. He still has a bright future ahead. BUT, Mikel has to rise to the occassion and stand to be counted.

He represents the future of our football dominance in africa and the world. Mikel's failure is, to a very large extent, the failure of our football.

Bottom line: LET'S KEEP PRAYING FOR HIM AS WELL AS OTHER NIGERIAN STARS AS WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE. CHEERS!

happy new year to everybody, pls friends lets forget about this mikel matter and talk something more serious, for me mikel is a finished product, when he came to chelsea he thought he had arrived and start playing big man football each time he was invited to SUPER EAGLE and keep on breaking our hearts..although i still like him as a nigerian.

Tokslex: 2012-01-23 21:17

I think if Mikel could play regualary under four world class coaches ( Mourinho, Hindijk, Acelotti and Voas + Graam)and one says is not a good player, then those world class coaches stole their coaching peremit.

Game147: 2012-01-24 13:15

@Luis-hero, Lol.

@Topstarz, My brother, which one come be two mouths nah ???. Na u get your mouth sha.

I don't know why people can't understand elementary things. Mikel has a lot of short-comings ( not living up to expectation and indifferent attitude to Super Eagles) , it's healthy to criticize him especially without malicious intent , but if it stretches beyond positivity then it becomes callous and destructive.
People just read comments of others without looking deep into its meaning in terms of stylistic and ideology.

@Daniel, Back in the days , we say 'confirm' to replica of your comment. I'd say you're on the spot.

@Tokslex, My Hausa friends 'll say 'Haka ne' to your comment. Actually, you forgot Filipe Scholari ( former World Cup winning coach).

Maybe those Coaches who used Mikel are not World class Coaches ; apparently they're Local Government area class coaches...lol.

In a nutshell, we're entitled to our opinion and our views remain valid provided it has a solid logical foundation.

Una well-done o.

RABIU IBRAHIM GRANTED WORK PERMIT.

Rabiu Ibrahim was delighted to have finally sealed a deal to join Scottish giants Celtic.
The 20-year old Nigerian midfielder has now been granted a work permit after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal following an impressive trial and is looking forward to developing in a great club environment.
"I feel very happy and excited to be joining Celtic. I have wanted to join Celtic for a long time to develop myself," the former Sporting Lisbon and PSV Eindhoven man told the club's official website.

"They were interested in me in 2010 when I was with Sporting. I don't know why that never happened but that was then and I'm happy now that I'm here at Celtic.
"The atmosphere here is great, and the people are great. They are always nice to me and encouraging me so I already feel at home.
"The players have made me feel welcome and happy. It's just like a big family here. They carry everybody along, and I'm happy with that.
"I'm delighted as Celtic are a big club - they like good players, produce good players and encourage and give the young players the opportunity to prove themselves and showcase their talents.
"I'm happy that I'm here and strongly believe that I will get the opportunity to prove myself and improve my game."

I thank God for you. This time i pray u show the world what you can do with the round leather. Maybe u will convince me to watch Celtic vs Rangers. Cos am enjoying Sone Aluko.

All the best bro

Spoton: 2012-01-24 22:21

I remember listening to an interview with Salomon Kalou on Sky Sports a few months ago. The journalist asked him a few questions about his teammates at Chelsea.
When asked who is the most Fashionable, he replied, Frank Lampard.
When asked who is the fastest, he said, Daniel Sturidge.
And finally, he was asked who is the slowest, he replied with a chuckle, Mikel Obi.
The fact that Mikel is on chelsea's books does not mean he deserves to play for Nigeria. He is not a key player for chelsea because he does not play regularly.
A player who plays regularly for Eyimba is better than a chelsea benchwarmer.

gerry: 2012-01-24 23:19

@spoton, if that's the case, then 90% of our current players don't deserve to play for Nigeria because they are all benchwarners at the verious clubs. I totally disagree with you. Kalou is a serious benach warmer at at Chelsea, even has seen more action that him but it doesn't stop ivory coast from extending invitation to Kalou. As you can see, he is still a very important player for ivory coast.

Mikel should be encouraged not mocked as seen in this forum . let's not act as if we got world class players over the place because we haven't. Let gather the little we have and make the most of them. Mikel is out of form at the moment and any footie loving person should know that form is temporary class is permanent.
we don't hear Ghana or other African countries mocking their off-form players.

Why don't you guys leave Mikel alone. Whatever he makes out of his carer is his headache. We should be thinking of why our dear eagles are not in the afcon. All the games played so far have been below standard and it is funny that in such a competition Nigeria, Cameroun, Egypt and South Africa are not participating yet we are hear talking about mikel.

I dont understand why some Nigerians can speak against their fellow country man in such discouraging manner like sarah, akpaamu and lima. You people should let your words be encouraging to our players as am sure they could read your comments. I am unsure sometimes if some forumites are trully from NIGERIA or NIGER. May the Lord help your thoughts!
