Tributes pour in for Ntuka

The suspect involved in the death of former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United midfielder Jeffrey Ntuka is still at large.

Ntuka was stabbed to death, allegedly by a childhood friend, in Kroonstand on Friday night. The former Under-23 international captain was unattached to a club.

Police spokesperson Meselela Langa told KickOff.com last night that they are close to a breakthrough.

"We have intensified our search and we are confident that we will apprehend the suspect very soon," Langa said.

Meanwhile, condolences are continuing to pour in for the fallen soccer star.

SuperSport midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo is devastated about the passing of his homeboy and former teammate.

"We were close as we were both from Free State," Ntshumayelo says. "He had his own problems, but personally I can say Jeffrey was a very good guy."

Defender Thabo September says he is praying for Ntuka's family to be strong during this difficult time.

"South Africa has lost another great talent. He had his problems like any other person, but he was a very talented player," September says. "It is heartbreaking and I pray to God to help comfort his family during these tough times."

Kaizer Chiefs media officer Luthando Zibeko says he has great memories of meeting Ntuka for the first time in 2006, while working for KICK OFF magazine as a reporter.

"I first met Ntuka during the Eight Nations Tournament in January 2006, when he was the captain of the Under-23s," Zibeko recalls.

"For me he was huge talent and at that time was linked with Chelsea in England. He was a player that the country was looking forward to see playing at the 2010 World Cup."

"Off the field Jeffrey was a nice boy who loved his family very much. I met him in Pretoria recently and he was someone who wanted to get his career back and bounce back to football.

"My heartfelt condolences go to his family in the Free State."

SuperSport communication manager David Skosana says Ntuka was one of the best footballers South Africa ever produced.

"I rate him as one of the best defenders in the country and one of our best exports, as he also played overseas. Gavin Hunt tried to resurrect his career at SuperSport but things didn't work out.

"It is very sad to lose a a young man in such a manner and our sincere condolences go to his family at this darkest hour."

People really like attention. It's sad that no wanted anything to do with this guy after he left Supersport yet today everyone sings his praises. If people acknowledged that he was talented why couldn't any team sign him and try to help his off the field problems. Fatc is we do not appreciate our home grown talent. When are going to stop being being opportunists? People were calling names but today we are told how good he was. Why didn't we tell him all these in his face?

Ntuka died clubless and you will see how many club chairmen will be at his funeral fooling people about Jeffrey. Sies!!!!

Ntate Moloi!I think ur missing a point by being emotional. When someone passes, you give him respect by emphasizing on his goodness & that's what is happening with this teams/bosses.

I also don't think this teams didn't try to help the boy but with due respect this has to be a two way process.

Unfortunately this teams are unable to keep a troubled players when the situation doesn't improve because this can have a negative effect on other players.Even in a work environment companies will battle to retain repeat offenders.

On this sad note,I went into Westerloo website & even though I couldn't read Belgian, they had a very nice picture of a young Jeffrey Ntuka.

Yesterday someone posted his wish of a death sentence.

Honestly I also feel that some brutal crimes are committed because this criminals knows that the justice system favors them.

If South Africa has a harsh sentences like in the US,you won't kill someone for a box of matches or you won't come from another country & kill people in that country because ur hungry.

The only thing that will will bring fear into criminals is the harsh sentences.

People always say innocent people will be sentenced but if there is no reason doubts maximum sentences should be imposed.

A life of human being is worth more than a box of matches or hunger caused by greedy dictators/ politicians

Say whatever u want to say, thina we will mourn with his family and pray for the ones left behind.

What is happening to AFRICA, what happened to our values n principles.

a family has lost it member yet people want to appear smart n be objective on this issue. People even if your brother who is a thug died, People dont come for him, but support the family.

Lets divorce ourselfs from being judgemental. TP i agree with you on harsh sentences but our constitution is against that.
