Nigerian football was once again thrown into uncertainty when a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja declared both the NFF and the NPL illegal.
Sam Sam Jaja, a former member of the NFA executive committee, instituted the suit to challenge his exclusion from the NPL elections which was won by Davidson Owumi, and which eventually brought in Rumson Baribote as chairman of the league body.
As part of his ruling, Justice Donatus Okubuwa declared that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) are illegal and the bodies recognized by Nigerian law are the Nigerian Football Association (NFA) and the Nigerian Football League (NFL).
"The court said there was no justifiable reason why I was excluded from that election," Jaja said.
