QPR agree a loan deal with AC Milan for Taye Taiwo

Taiwo joins QPR

Posted: 2012-01-20 13:21

QPR have agreed a six months loan deal with AC Milan for left-back Taye Taiwo as new manager Mark Hughes closes in on his first signing at Loftus Road.

Taiwo has been heavily linked with a Premier League move and QPR have won the race for his signature.

Rangers have settled on a fee for the Nigeria international, who is yet to agree personal terms and is set to undergo a medical in West London.

The 26-year-old defender joined Milan last summer from Marseille, making four Serie A starts for the Rossoneri this season and three in the Champions League.

Taiwo had been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of his summer move, while Arsenal are thought to be monitoring him this month.

Hughes is keen to strengthen his backline after succeeding Neil Warnock as manager, with Chelsea stopper Alex and Manchester City's Nedum Onuoha also on his radar.

How are the mighty fallen.

Umsab\'ungamaz\': 2012-01-20 14:02

Powerful left-back...why would Milan let this boy go?

Seye Ukr: 2012-01-20 14:37

what a big shame to Nigeria football. From Milan to QPR

uzochi: 2012-01-20 15:26

IF THIS IS TRUE, THEN HOW LOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN.

This is the problem with some of our stars, we fill their heads that they are the best in the world (Just because they are the best in our STRUGGLING country doesnt mean they are the best in the world), Most of them are not even the best in Africa talk more of the world.
But when we prop them up like that, they think they are all that. They seek BIG clubs and when they get there, they realize they are not as good as they think they are and are therefore bench ridden.
Look at MIKEL (cant beat out Romeo, Mireles, Ramires, Essien, etc) yet SOME OF YOU have called him the best Mid fielder in the world.
LOOK at Enyeama, Some have called him the best keeper in the world. Yet he has played only 3 games for Lille this season.
Now Taye,
Look at the Harunna's and other YOUNG "talents" we have proped up soo high, EXCEPT FOR JOEL OBI, non of them play for a big club, yet JOEL OBI gets more playing time at INTER than they do in their 2nd and 3rd tier teams.
How do you expect to compete in the world when your players are all bench warmers in their clubs?
Look at Ghana, from Kanimi (their keeper) to Gyan, they all play regularly. not to forget mensah, boateng, etc.
Senegal, the same thing, their players play reguarly.
Need I mention Ivory Coast who also have players IN EACH position who plays for a significant club and play regularly.
Nigeria Football is DEAD.

Our players need to stop chasing the GLAMOR of playing for a top club and worry about playing time period.

uzochi: 2012-01-20 15:30

I do not feel sorry for Taiwo, he had a chance to chose from a HOST of good clubs in the Champions league, ****nal, PSG and a few others and he chose to play for milan. THAT my friends if his choice and he gets to live with it. the glamor of playing for a top team has him here. ****nal is a top team and he would be playing DAILY there if he had chosen wisely.
Also remember ENyeama chose LILLE and is in the same predicament.

By the way, did everyone see JOEL OBI AWESOME Assist in Milans game against Lecce yesterday? awesome play. it was on thursday's ESPN top 10 plays

blackpanther187: 2012-01-20 15:39

Sometimes its like that in football. if you move to a big club the risk is there that you cant attache to the new enviroment and so on.

Now we can start talkin about his manager and so on but to be honest, me myself saw a chance for Taiwo in any big club in the world!! You never how things turn out at the end...

You never know what will happen...look at Brown Ideye in Ukraine. The guy made it there and Lukeman Haruna is havin problem. Ujah shouldnt have move to Germany thesame thing goes for Chrisantus. John Utaka should have never left France!! But you never know its easy to say.

I hope Taiwo can show what he can in England!! I think he is a worldclass player and he just focus an never forget where he came from.

I dont how most of our players think? But some are not so clever when it comes to hard discisions... in my opinion.

blackpanther187: 2012-01-20 15:47

@uzochi:

Enyema is a very good example!! But guys hope you know that a deal with AC Milan or Lille could make you rich overnight!! I think this are the reasons why some players make this moves. Money Money Money

But what about your career?

I pray to good that Musa will make in Russia. In my opinion he should have focus on his career instead of money. For us its easy to say, i know. But Musa should have moved to Ajax or PSV because Netherland have Nigeria history and he have get used to the system there. Plus Netherland have a very good youth-system. Guys like Bergkamp and i think De boer would have taken good care of Musa.....

Another reason for me to follow QPR in the premiership week in week out. Uzochi now do you have a solution enough of criticizing without solution.

blackpanther187: 2012-01-20 17:25

@uzochi:

Yeahh I saw the game yesterday. J. Obi played fantastic!!

lima: 2012-01-20 17:37

Uzochi, you are stupid, you want our players to be in big club like Mikel in Chelsea doing nothing. Favorite (Senegal) Afcon winner 2012, where are their players plying their trade. How many so called big clubs can win QPR. I am only against that it is a loan, if it is permanent deal is better for Taiwo.

Nebo: 2012-01-20 17:49

Good point @ Uzochi...

same mistake happen even here in mzansi UZOCHU players score many goals in mvela and think he can still do the same thing in PSL, look what happen to Reason Chiloane he should have start at teams dat does not have more pressure than the big ones such as platinum stars, wits and swallows he jump straight to the top,

look Pienaar many peoples warn him not to join Spurs `but because of money he just go there He is currently the captain of our country but he 's not even make to the team list we are not going anywere for sure.

capstoneeditmedia: 2012-01-20 19:08

No doubt, Nigeria's football has dwindled beyond my imagination. I can't believe what is happening to my darling Super Eagles. They are no more super as their name implies. But this is just a down time for us as it happens to many countries. Nigeria will surely bounce back. Ghana was in coma for about 8 years, but later came back.

But if we will bounce back soonest, the policy of grooming the home based players as embarked upon by Keshi seems to be the right thing.

To buttress this point, the following article culled from www.cafonline.com teaches the Nigerian football fraternity some lessons on our rebuilding process. Happy reading:

Home-based stars dominate players’ roll call

The roll call of players for the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations is dominated by players who play in their domestic leagues. The rising trend is a perfect reflection of the development in the standards of the various African leagues.

Of the 368 players named by the 16 participating teams for the tournament, 129 of them play in leagues in their countries of birth. The figure represents 35 percent of the total number of registered players for the 28th edition of the continental showpiece football event.

Only one team, Sudan has each member of their squad playing at home. Four years ago in Ghana, the Desert Hawks named a squad of entirely local-based players as they exited the first round. Whilst that team of 2008 was constituted by players from the two biggest clubs, Al Hilal and Al Merrikh; the trend has changed this term.

Sudan’s most successful football club, Al Hilal has 10 players, seven from bitterest rivals Al-Merrikh with Al-Hilal Kadougli, Al Mourada, El Neel, Al Ittihad Madani, Alnosur and Hilal Alsahel contributing one player each to Mohammed ‘Mazda’ Abdallah’s team.

Debutants Botswana have included 15 home-based players in their maiden attempt at the biennial championship with the remainder plying their trade in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL). Libya has 14 home-based players, 11 apiece for Tunisia, Angola and co-hosts Gabon; Equatorial Guinea have in their squad seven of their members playing at home with Niger having six.

The duo of the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and the Stallions of Burkina Faso are the only teams with no local-based players in their squad. For the Elephants, goalkeeper Daniel Yeboah was a perfect fit for the bill till he joined French side Dijon on the eve of the unveiling of the final squad.

Whilst the Ivorian squad is made up of players from leagues in eight countries (Belgium, France, Germany, England, Turkey, Russia, Netherlands and Qatar); the Burkinabes have seven more. The Stallions, who boast of one of the youngest players at the tournament in teenager Bertrand Traore of English side Chelsea, have other players featuring in Belgium, Russia, Romania, Iran, Egypt, France, Moldova, Turkey, Qatar, Poland, Portugal, Gabon, Austria and Malta.

Outside the local domain, France has the largest number of representatives – 62, who play from the elite to the lower divisions. Mali is the team with the highest number of France-based players with 14. The Teranga Lions of Senegal has 10 players from the French Leagues whilst eight members of the Panthers of Gabon play in the land of their colonial masters.

England is represented with 15-players and three-less for the German Bundesliga and their other divisions. There also modest representation from European countries such as Netherlands, Belgium, Cyprus, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Moldova, Malta, Russia, Austria, Poland, Belarus, Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Ukraine, Scotland and Serbia.

African leagues such as South Africa, Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Zambia, Guinea, Botswana, Mali, Niger, Sudan and Angola also have standard bearers.

There is also an Asian representation in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Iran and Oman as well as USA, Brazil, Colombia, USA.

Game147: 2012-01-20 20:31

@Uzochi,I disagree with you, Taiwo is a good defender and he's good enough to be in Milan starting Eleven. And if I can remember vividly, Taiwo had made African XI two or three times, so he's one of the best left-backs in Africa. I don't know what happened to him...that's football. Another good example is Fernado Torres; that he is playing below expectation doesn't deny to the obvious fact of his abilities as a decent striker.
@Lima, Spot on. QPR is a decent side and very physical, which has cost some of the big teams in England troubles (especially Chelsea and Man city escaped by whiskers).
There's nothing wrong in Playing for QPR. Claudio Pizzaro flopped at Chelsea and became a great finisher at Weder Bremen and Diego Forlan left Man U and became a great player.
For me, getting enough playing time is better than sitting on the bench.

Game147: 2012-01-20 20:34

meant deny the obvious fact.

Fireman: 2012-01-20 23:49

taiwo is on LOAN, not sold. He can prove himself in the premiership and go back to milan in top form. Another big club might decide to buy him or he could stick with QPR if they can afford to buy his contract. Stop all this doom and gloom. Taye is not the first big player to go on loan at a small club.

uzochi: 2012-01-21 01:05

@LIMA
If you read my comments clearly, you will see I am against them going to big clubs and sitting on the bench. I rather have them get playing time than be bench warmers. Thats why I said they should stay where they are stars and play regularly.
Read carefully before you start calling NAMES and insulting people you dont know by calling them "stupid".

uzochi: 2012-01-21 01:08

I rather have him in ****nal or QPR or Everton and he plays daily ( see Yakubu who plays in a bad team but plays regularly and is a star)
I rather our players play for small teams and play regularly than go to big clubs and warm the bench like Mikel and Enyeama.

luise-hero: 2012-01-21 02:21

i watch this guy play one or two match for milla and he was impressive ,i wonder what did they want him to do with the ball probably they want him to score 12 goals like an attacker stupid ac milla

Sarah.: 2012-01-21 02:31

My people,i understand your anger on TT.Have you all forgotten his contributions & achievements wiv OM so soon?Go to english site and see how the fans and england as a whole are singing his name.[There are two kinds of commentors, the first are tagging it A CONTRACT OF THE CENTURY and with more plus from his thunderous free kicks, the second are already calling QPR thieves by reaping where didn't sow and raining cuases on TT for belittling himself so low to a relegation bound team].Why crucify your own?Yes,Nigeria is not playn in AFCON 2012 but isn't TT fault.I hope you all take away sentiments from your contributions and come to your senses after AFON2012 is done.

Sarah.: 2012-01-21 02:37

Plus Italy, milan precisely got some crazy traditions..sometimes even uninjured Pato watch his team playn from the STANDS.TT might have not made THE BEST move but A BETTER move asper playn times.

val: 2012-01-21 04:19

@uzochi, Game147. I agree with you guys, no doubt, getting enough playing time is better than sitting on the bench.
Taiwo has been a 'clinical' defender too. Hughes is also a good coach, we hope they get the best from both sides.

val: 2012-01-21 04:26

Meanwhile, Chinedu Obasi pairs up with Jan Hunterlar in the attack with Raul in the midfieled as Schalke04 takes on VFB Stuttgart in the second stanza of the Bundesliga. This should be Chinedu's first game for Schalke04 having left Hoffenheim due to disciplinary controversies and lack of enough playing time.

uzochi: 2012-01-21 08:47

@ SARAH, @ VAL

I love Taye Taiwo, he is an awesome LB and did a great job for OM (which is why TOP clubs wanted him) but he he chose money and "top club" name over playing time. And he should have looked at the track record of WENGER and signed with the Gunners. Mind you, I am a MAN-U fan but he chose wrong and I hope the rest of our players learn from this.

Enoc : 2012-01-21 12:18

hahahaha...how can Chelsea, ****nal and Man Utd all be chasing a player and lose out to QPR???? How?

Kolawole1: 2012-01-22 01:10

Taiwo is a certified FLOP and can not cut at the highest level. AC Milan is an European giant and signing a mediocre like Taiye Taiwo wasa blatant error.

Everything in Nigeria is on a downward trend.

Ajah: 2012-01-22 06:55

THIS GUYS ARE LOOKING FOR MONEY NOT TO PLAY GAME ANY MONEY

Ajah: 2012-01-22 06:56

NO ONE IS FIGHTING FOR BALL THEY ONLY FIGHT MONEY

MARADONA: 2012-01-24 03:24

All the coaches of the national teams that Nigeria played against in the qualifying matches for the last world cup in South Africa, at the World Cup proper and during the qualifying matches for the current African Nations Cup all identified Taye Taiwo as the key problem in Nigeria's defence. They all took advantage of Taye's well known habit of running up front and not bothering to run back immediately to man his position

All the Coaches watched Nigeria's past matches while preparing to play Nigeria and they all discovered a major error that Nigeria's national coaches over time have all failed, ignored or refused to deal with. That is, Taye Taiwo have an unacceptable and mediocre habit of over-lapping up front and stagnating up front thereafter.

Taye Taiwo has refused to understand or failed to learn that he must fall back immediately after leading a counter attack charge up up-front.

AC Milan recruited Taye Taiwo to replace the legendary Maidini. Soon after Taye Taiwo arrived in Milan, The Italians discovered that Taye leaves the left full back exposed for the no nonsense Italian numero uno league, hungry, extremely motivated and desperate for goals, talented attackers to exploit. This observation which Maldini himself announced in a major press interview has not been rectified by Taye Taiwo.

Go and watch virtually all the Super Eagles past matches and the press chats the visiting National coaches had with the Nigerian press after all the matches and listen to what they all said about Taye Taiwo's consistent exposure of Nigeria's defence.

Virtually all the teams that have defeated all drawn with Nigeria, since the time of Amodu Shuaibu, exploited Taye Taiwo's well know counter attack charge and failure to fall back immediately to man his left full back position

AC Milan gave Taye Taiwo the opportunity to step up his game. Unfortunately, he could not get it right. Maybe the Italians should have engaged a Yoruba translator to interprete to Taye Taiwo that he should stop exposing AC Milan's left full back.
