Bloemfontein Celtic coach Clinton Larsen says Erick Mathoho not joining Kaizer Chiefs

Larsen: Mathoho not joining Chiefs

Posted: 2012-01-18 07:08

Bloemfontein Celtic coach Clinton Larsen has laughed off speculation that defender Erick 'Tower' Mathoho will be joining Kaizer Chiefs.

Rather, Larsen hinted that should the player make any move at all, it would be to an overseas club – and not to any PSL clubs.

"Everybody has been asking me whether 'Tower' would be joining Chiefs. I told them that he was staying put here at Celtic. He is going nowhere as he has just extended his contract by another three years. It will expire in 2014," Larsen tells KickOff.com.

"If it happens that we sell him in the future, it would be to an overseas club. We will not release him to a PSL team. We are trying to build a strong squad for the future that will make our supporters proud. So we cannot afford to lose our best players to local sides. 'Tower' is one of the best defenders in the country, no wonder he has attracted interest from Dutch giants FC Twente.

"No. I'm not aware of any interest from Chiefs. I have only read about it in the media  "
- Clinton Larsen

"He has also been consistently winning Man-of-the-Match awards and that shows that he really is a quality player. And of course, he is a member of the national Under-23 squad and has often been called-up to the Bafana Bafana fold. He is the future of the club," Larsen says.

Asked whether any negotiations were going on between Celtic and Chiefs regarding the transfer of Mathoho, Larsen says: "No. I'm not aware of any interest from Chiefs. I have only read about it in the media. We are not talking to anybody regarding this matter. The only negotiations we are currently busy with are for a few players we are looking to lure to the club before the January transfer window period closes.

"We have recently brought in a striker (Ransford Osei) from Ghana. He comes highly recommended. He has played for highly-rated sides like Maccabi Haifa and FC Twente. His experience will be beneficial to the club as we begin the second round of the season next month," he explains.

"There are two more players that we want to sign. But I cannot divulge their names now, because we are still negotiating with their respective clubs. All I can say now is that they are wide and central midfielders. We are hoping to conclude the deals soon. But if we are unable to get those players, we shall carry on with what we have," he adds.

Meanwhile, Celtic players regrouped on Monday to prepare for the next round of the League campaign after having spent four weeks on holiday. They will resume their campaign with tough encounters against Golden Arrows (home, February 15), Black Leopards (away, February 22) and Platinum Stars (home, February 26).

"Our aim is to get off the second round with a flying start, collecting a maximum of nine points from our opening three matches. We want to improve our team, do better than we did in the first round and collect more points." Larsen adds.

Dis is no laughing matter. Chimps need to buy players for really.

Mhlangenkosi365: 2012-01-18 07:54

Chiefs must reinforce the striking department please as we experienced goal drought during the first round. I want to see goals, goals and more goals inside our opponents' net. I believe the likes of King Tefu Mashamaite can do the job if given more game time. As for ths Cl****n kid, he must close his mouth coz Tower is a born chief!

Tower will join Chiefs sooner or later. l****n is just observing protocol for his club as is the PSL or SA norm to omit as much information as possible from the public (a useless strategy only working for club like Sandunusa and AmaSwap Deals FC).

Julius_S_Malema: 2012-01-18 08:52

Chiefs will never afford on form SA players, but they will always stick to Zim Combo. Like the name Chips Combo

Tolly.ba.Thathe : 2012-01-18 09:42

I really do not know why KO still sees this as news because the team in question will never afford any player who's on contract with his current club. Therefore, isn't crystal clear that the reports and rumours about Mathoho, who reported to be worth not anything less than 3m, will never go to the Zoo? In the first place I don't think he is an animal...unless I can be proven otherwise that he is.

The least they can do is to wait until 2014 when he's out of contract...still only if he will still be playing in the PSL.

FISTOS: 2012-01-18 09:45

those Zim boys are still doing fine at the back, with khune coming back we will be fine,
we just need a midfielder who can score over 8 goals in a season, thats a fact, then we can win the league, doctor khumalo did it,tsikitsiki mooki did it,shoes did it,siyabonga nkosi did it,jabu pule did it,shabba onece done that but since this overseas obsesion came just b4 the world cup he hasn't done enough and i question his comitment,

we need our jersey NO 10, yende is just like nkhambule they can't produce the moment of magic or brilliance just like the late scara did and the drankard Pule did

Tolly Makaka pls stop spewing kak on this site. Did Richie, Mashamaite and Majoro join Chiefs for free.

It is surprising that even though Chibuku FC have come out of their long drought their stupid fans still suffer from a lot of inferiority complex. They spend a lot od their times trying to convince themselves that their kak team is better than the Mighty Amakhosi.

Pls Chibuku FC fans enjoy ur brief glory while it lasts. Stop trying hard with ur stupid posts to prove that ur team is greater than Chiefs. Sure the past two years were gud for but does it take two yrs to make a gud team bana ba bo magosha ke lona ?

It will take Chibuku another 5 years to win evry trophy on offer with Chiefs winning nothing for them to match the Mighty Chiefs as the mostly successful team in Mzansi.

I have come to suspect that Chibuku fans struggle to come to terms with the following facts;

1. Chiefs are more succesful than them
2. Chiefs are far more popular than Chibuku both in SA and outside.

So please Chibuku fans enjoy your newly found "greatness" in peace and stop stressing urself by pretending that u r the greatest in Mzansi. Statistics neva lie.

I thought this story has been reported before and thus, this is a repetition, which amounts to laziness and most probably, no any nothing to sell by the 'laziest' journalist, Sidwell Guduka or wasn't you aware that your colleague had already fed us with your usual lies?

On the positive note, at least now KickOff cites its sources but still reactive

If that is the case, Bloemas, why is Centenaire KC not listed along those giants as a Super Brand? Why is it only Pirates, Proteas & Boks listed alongside them?

Get it into your thick skull (since KC fans don't have brains) that your team is nothing but an overatted, indebted farm that will join the like of Swallows as the has been.

Tzozo,

The words go "you must respect a fool so that people can see the difference".

Now why these words to you...you have acted like a fool because instead of engaging me on issues you resort to swearing and so on. Perhaps this is how animals behave but because I thought you are interacting with human being you learn a thing two from human beings...one of the them being how they articulate issues.

Next time I kindly urge you to put issues straight and do not embarrass the nation of the animals at the Zoorena. Just ring the bell when you are ready to engage me on issues and I will duly cooperate.

Truly speaking Ama buku buku must consult psychologists to cure their mentale disease.

It seems to me that the more Chibuku FC win trophies after their decade long drought the more they get frustrated instead of enjoying in peace. No wonder their frustrations are never directed at another "big' club like Sundowns that has not won anything in almost five years. Maybe that explains the frustrations of Chibuku FC fans.

Chibuku fans are like a man who bonks his wife everyday but still can't make her pregnant. Chibuku fans realize that in the past two seasons they have won almost every trophy on offer yet they can't (statistically) be regarded as Mzansi's most successful team.

They look at the facts and realize that Chiefs are still way ahead of them in terms of honours and maybe that is why with all their two year success most of them still sound bitter and frustrated.

Even Sundowns fans sounds genuinely happier that Chibuku FC fans. So it is not only money that can't buy you happiness. Even a TREBLE success after 10 barren years can't buy you true happiness it appears.

Jessika lekhekhe has been spoted in Southern Sun hotel with Boa Morte.

It was going to be a record breaking move since we all know that cHIVs have been hit hard by recession, the only signed players who are out of contract. If it wasn't for Sundowns buying Punch, Musona would have not gone to Netherlands for trials. Its a sad reality indeed! Kea e tsaba recession.
