AmaZulu have abandoned their bid to sign Sifiso Vilakazi despite his club Bidvest Wits having accepted Usuthu's transfer offer last week.
According to AmaZulu the veteran striker will no longer be joining them due to family reasons and they are now pursuing other options in their bid to beef up their attack.
"The deal is officially off," reveals James Dhlamini, the AmaZulu team manager.
"It will no longer happen because of his personal matters. We tried everything in our power to bring him down to Durban but we couldn't and we will now be looking elsewhere. It was something that involves his family and in that kind of situation there is absolutely nothing that we can do. We respect him for his decision.
"Since we are seriously hunting for a striker we are already pushing for other options. However, we are not desperate which is why we are not keen to take a player on loan but rather on a permanent deal," explains Dhlamini.
Vilakazi will now be staying put at Wits and see out his contract that has six months remaining.
The 32 year-old's move to Usuthu had been dependant on him agreeing on his personal terms but when he mentioned his desire to stay put with his family in Johannesburg where his wife works and kids attend school the pending move looked unlikely.
