Rush of transfers in First Division

There have been some interesting – and drastic – comings and goings in the National First Division this January transfer window.

Promotion hopefuls Thanda Royal Zulu have shaken up their squad, releasing five players while welcoming four for assessment, including former Platinum Stars left-back Ayo Oluwafemi.

Thanda have handed clearances to Richard Matloga, Ngcebo Zulu, Malusi Mseleku, Phumlani Ntuli and Dunn Cardyne.

"We have given all these boys their clearances as they don't form part of the plans going ahead," Thanda manager Peter Koutroulis says.

Joining Oluwafemi for trials at the club is former AmaZulu striker Bulelani Matross, who just parted ways with African Warriors.

Also on assessment at the club is ex-Mpumalanga Black Aces midfielder Vusiwe 'TK' Masondo, as well as Bafo Biyela, who is due to sign within the next week.

Thanda have already signed Swaziland international Mzwandile Ndzimande while Alastair Wallis will join on loan from AmaZulu.

Meanwhile, African Warriors have released Sandile Ngidi, Siyabonga Mkhwanazi (who was on loan from Orlando Pirates), and Tshepo Tomanyane.

Warriors have signed Santos reject Orlin Powell on a contract running to the end of the season.

Leaders University of Pretoria have already cut ties with Guinea midfielder Seydouba Soumah who has since gone back to Ajax Cape Town after just five months in the capital city.

Tuks coach Steve Barker says Soumah did not fit in at the club.

Fellow promotion hopefuls Vasco da Gama have snapped up former youth international striker Gregory Roelf on loan from Santos.

Roelf will spend the rest of this season with Vasco where he will also be joined by the promising Abdul Karrien Sadan.

Bay United have their former midfielder David Twala on trial while Carara Kicks have brought back David Vilakazi to work as a co-coach with Duncan Lechesa.

FC AK are still holding hope of signing Fabian McCarthy if he fails to secure a move to the Premiership.
