Boa Morte linked to Soweto giants

Former Arsenal player Luis Boa Morte linked to Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates

Posted: 9 January 2012 Time: 4:23 pm

Former Arsenal midfielder Luis Boa Morte arrives in the country next Monday for talks with a PSL club, having been convinced by close friend Benni McCarthy.

Though the identity of the interested club has been kept a secret, the two Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be at the forefront to sign the Portuguese.

Boa Morte, who was McCarthy's teammate at West Ham, is a free agent after prematurely parting ways with Greek second tier side AE Larissa just six months into his stay, following financial problems at the club.

KickOff.com has been told by Paul Mitchell, the agent representing the 34-year-old in South Africa, that the influence of McCarthy stands as the reason behind Boa Morte's decision to consider playing in the PSL.

"Luis is close friends with Benni and it is actually Benni who recommended that Luis must consider coming down to South Africa.

"After being convinced by Benni about the PSL Luis is now excited about coming down to the country. The thing about Benni is that he speaks Portuguese just like Luis and their friendship is from their time at West Ham," Mitchell says.

With over 300 games in the English Premiership from his 14 years in England, Boa Morte will arrive in South Africa armed with vital experience, despite being in the twilight of his career.

"He is 34 but he still has at least two good years left in him and if possible he could as well finish off his career in the country. One thing that is definite about him is that he is still quality," Mitchell adds.

Boa Morte had game-time at Arsenal, Southampton, Fulham and West Ham, who he left at the end of last season, after four years.

His most successful spell was at Fulham, where he played 195 games.

Orlando Pirates Football Club sign and play Smart..Luis Boa Morte is will add value value to the Club, Age aint nothing but a number, Thierry Henry,Paul Scholes and David Beckham are still playing soccer at the highest level, so why not? For Boa Morte, what matters most is ones fitness level&mental state and with a player like McCarthy already around he would settle easily in the PSL set up, so which ever Club sign him,we soccer lovers will Welcome him with open arms,PSL deserve such experience,so we will keep our eyes and ears open for this years scoop. Afterall Arsenal has been promoting youngsters for the past 7seasons and where are they?just last week Friday they resigned Thierry Henry for WHAT???Experience ofcourse!!! Why Did OPFC sign BENNI McCARTHY??your guess is as good as Mine and the guy scored a brace against Swallows in the TElkom game which took us the Semis and we ended up winning the Trophy with his experience and intimidation!!!!

It's obvious that the only reason he is going down is because madam J twisted Bennie his arm, you know what I mean.

They just can't be outdone in luring former EPL player to SA...that's pure jealousy and then they send their best Mascot...madam J.

It's crystal clear he is not coming to Parktown...madam J used Bennie to get Boa Morte.
