Pirates lead race for Pietersen

Posted: 2012-01-08 18:59

Orlando Pirates have emerged as hot favourites to sign highly-rated defender Roscoe Pietersen from Chippa United.

Pirates announced on their website on Saturday that had loaned out defender Vusi Mthimkhulu and midfielder Sibusiso Mnguni to United until the end of the season. However, KickOff.com has since learnt that Pietersen has been earmarked to join Bucs as part of a swap deal that saw that duo moving the other way.

The Cape Town-born player, who is also a cousin to Golden Arrows defender Robyn Johannes, is expected to sign with Pirates subject to passing a medical this week.

Chippa boss Siviwe Mpengesi confirms “having had talks” with Pirates regarding Pietersen’s services.

“There has been some huge interest, but it looks like he might go to Orlando Pirates. There have been talks between us and Pirates and possibly something might be finalised this week,” tells KickOff.com.

The 22-year-old defender is also on Bloemfontein Celtic, SuperSport United and Golden Arrows’ wanted lists, but it seems Pirates have stolen a march in the race for his signature.

we signed an mvela playa(mthimkhulu)... we loan him out to a mvela team without giving him a proper chance to prove himself...then we replace him with another unproven playa...haai maan it seems khoza is losing his touch now!!!

mhlonitjhwa : 2012-01-08 19:35

Eish my team! Whn r we gonna stop signing every moving object mara ye?
We sign n then loan players without giving them a fair chance.

Ironduke : 2012-01-08 19:53

I'm 100% sure Leal is not the one signing all this Defenders, there must a Trot Molotonyana behind the scenes who is operating an illegal business of signing players from this Mvela clubs,I smell a rat here, why is it that whoever is tasked with job signs only Defenders???something doesn't add up here, n the worst thing with this weired signings is that they don't get game time,or are trying to get all the promising defenders and loan them out to gain experience but then if that's the case why are we loaning out Ndulula & Mabena out to gain more experience like we did with Tlou Segolela????Bakaniya haai!!!

Ndodemnyama : 2012-01-08 19:57

Baroka fc : 2012-01-08 20:02

Sweyts : 2012-01-08 21:21

Ay noh, let's admit....it's clear Bra Khoza is loaded just like our beloved President.......the only difference is ours is loaded with paper, Irvin is loaded with powder. lol. Bl'oody dealer! lol.

Totalfootball : 2012-01-08 21:43

I'm speachless, just that I trust Irvin and his judgement is often good!maybe there is a reason for signing this guy!

smallz: 2012-01-09 08:03

guys,we realy need a tall defender like him in central.Current centre backs are not intimidating in terms of height.Clever coach like Gavin would take advantage of midget defenders, besides his still young

Dooba OPC: 2012-01-09 08:16

Why are they all highly rated when linked to the bugs?

Dooba OPC: 2012-01-09 08:38

Sh!t, is my team signing anyone really- eish, this anti-media policy at Chiefs is really starting to make us sound like North Korea- one can hardly tell what is going on, I cant even make a sporadic suspecion or guess who is coming our shores except Shabba!

KING?: 2012-01-09 09:20

Its always good to see Khoza signing from the lower league or promoting from the development.

The guy is 22 and we really need a defender plus he is South African.

Thanks Mr Chairman for listening to us. now get us a goalkeeper from Mvela.

Botswanian4life: 2012-01-09 09:29

Oh nooooooo! Another "SWAP DEAL", another "SWAP DEAL", bathong A-N-O-T-H-E-R "SWAP DEAL!", hao bathong, what happened to the all those trophy money that Galaxy F.C. claimed to have?

I wonder which donkey they will be swapping with for PELEMBE, this time around, cause they failed when Teko Modise was used.

THE GAP-TOOTHED BULGY MAFIA IS THE CHAMPION OF "SWAP DEALS", Swapping every donkey, goat, & baboon to Mayfair!

HALALA "SWAP DEAL F.C." HALALA!

Champ "Superbrand": 2012-01-09 12:09

I hope he is as talented as Mabizela, as discipline as Sangweni and as hard working as Jali. Welcome boy!!!! grab the opportunity when given a chance and never look back!!!

Champ "Superbrand": 2012-01-09 12:10

I have a feeling this boy will make it at Pirates.

viper: 2012-01-09 14:23

Guys as for our development players they need to be loaned out to get experiance, I agree with that...

Buying these young defenders is good cause Our Captain, Mahamutsa and Sangweni are aging..So we need these young players, they must wait for thier oportunity and that is not unfair.Iniesta waited for his turn for a very long time.

samr: 2012-01-09 15:21

I am now getting confused as to how many players Pirates wants to sign and which positions do they really want to beef up cos I was under the impression that Pirates has a pool of best players avilable already in the country despite our poor start which is somehow understandable.

Laaste Khosi: 2012-01-09 15:51

I know Roscoe Pietersen. He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right.'
