Orlando Pirates have emerged as hot favourites to sign highly-rated defender Roscoe Pietersen from Chippa United.
Pirates announced on their website on Saturday that had loaned out defender Vusi Mthimkhulu and midfielder Sibusiso Mnguni to United until the end of the season. However, KickOff.com has since learnt that Pietersen has been earmarked to join Bucs as part of a swap deal that saw that duo moving the other way.
The Cape Town-born player, who is also a cousin to Golden Arrows defender Robyn Johannes, is expected to sign with Pirates subject to passing a medical this week.
Chippa boss Siviwe Mpengesi confirms “having had talks” with Pirates regarding Pietersen’s services.
“There has been some huge interest, but it looks like he might go to Orlando Pirates. There have been talks between us and Pirates and possibly something might be finalised this week,” tells KickOff.com.
The 22-year-old defender is also on Bloemfontein Celtic, SuperSport United and Golden Arrows’ wanted lists, but it seems Pirates have stolen a march in the race for his signature.
