Well travelled midfielder Ryan Botha will fly off to Sweden next week accompanied by former Platinum Stars defender Vaughn Miller to play in a pre-season tournament that could open up opportunities for the duo in the Scandinavia region.
Botha has been without a club since parting ways with Stars in July while Miller has been playing lower division football since leaving the same club last season.
With his extensive contacts built from playing for 13 different clubs in four countries Botha has lined up the trials.
"I am off to Sweden to play in a pre-season tournament from January 15-23 in Sweden. My old coach Jan Stahre who I played under at FC Inter in Finland is the one who arranged all this and asked me to bring along another player which is why I am taking Vaughn Miller. I am actually pushing more for something to happen for Vaughn because he is a young talented player. Taking Vaughn with me is part of the beginning of what I want to do in future by being an agent.
"My old coach who originates from Sweden owns an academy and has put together a team of players to play against different opposition from the mainstream Swedish leagues during the tournament. Since he is well connected I am certain something positive will happen though I am not desperate to return to Europe," says Botha.
Botha – who celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday – returned to the country four years ago after a lengthy spell in Europe to play for Thanda Royal Zulu, Moroka Swallows and then Stars.
