Zimbabwe to face Botswana without foreign based players

Zim minus PSL players for friendly

Posted: 2012-01-05 12:03

Zimbabwe will have to do without all their foreign based players including the dozen from the PSL that they had called up for the friendly match against Afcon finals debutants Botswana.

The match takes in Gaborone on Saturday afternoon.

AmaZulu have become the latest club to inform Zifa that all three of their players Tapuwa Kapini, Carlington Nyadombo and Ramson Zhuwawo that had been called-up will not be made available for this non-Fifa calendar date match.

"Our players are not available for that match because we haven’t given them permission," says James Dhlamini, the AmaZulu team manager.

"We have already booked their flights back for January 8 and we cannot change those dates as the coach wants all those players back at training fresh the next day. This is a non-Fifa calendar date match that falls at a time when we want all our players back to prepare for the second round. We have already informed ZIFA and their national team manager about this. We also didn’t like the idea of them travelling a very long distance from Harare to Gaborone by road," says Dhlamini.

Already nine South African based players who had been called up for the friendly have already withdrawn including veteran midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha who recently wedded his long time sweetheart Samantha Mtukudzi during the festive break.

The Warriors will now be also minus the rest of the PSL stars that they had called which includes Nyasha Mushekwi, Gilbert Mapemba, Thomas Sweswe, Jimmy Jambo, Lincoln Zvasiya, Khama Billiat, Tafadzwa Rusike and Willard Katsande for the road trip to the Botswana capital after their clubs refused to release them though they are all still on holiday in Zimbabwe.

Already Knowledge Musona, Edward Sadomba and Ovidy Karuru had pulled out leaving Zimbabwe with a hastily assembled squad of local based players for the match.

Botswana have put up camp in Rustenburg for the last couple of weeks preparing for the Afcon and will make the short road trip back to Gaborone on Friday for the match on Saturday.

I know who will be in the stadium stands of Gaborone for this friendly, guess who, The Great Villian aka Bobsteak Motaung, his half-sister Jessica 'MADAM J' Motaung and V.V aka the Confused One, the future Mugabe slaves will be in full display, Hobos FC needs more cheap merchandise and more human trafficking.

SpecialOne : 2012-01-05 12:46

Oh poor Zimbabweans, I know Bobby's horse and trailer will be parked outside the stadium for more slaves. Mugabe and Bobsteak must stop this now, human trafficking is criminal.

Ok, Pirates, Arrows and Sundowns were critised by chips fans for withdwawing their players from Banana Banana squad, now that half of the starting 11 of Zim is players from the Zoo, I'm sure it's accepetable for the Zoo Managers not to release the animals because we are still in the festive season and there are lot of people who visits the Zoo to see the animals, hence the date is out of FIFA calender, Let's hear you swearing the Iron Duke, I'm sure you will blame him for influecing Mr Motaung Senior not to release the animals, just like he did to Motsepe and Mato,..................

zebras do not need to play this friendly. why play a 3rd tier zim side when playing their 1st team would have been a compromise. BFA needs to call off this thing. Zambia would have been a better opponent. This friendly will not help us in any way.

Very interesting to read the comments of the Zebra fans after the insults they leveled against Colonel Khoza in what they (Zebras) perceived to be 'Khoza's influence' to have Arrows and Flops withdrawing their players.

Now, what about them? Is it Mugabe who influenced Motaung to withdraw the animals so that people can have last chance to see them at the zoos?

But personally I suspect sis J has a hand here...just a personal ****ysis given her previous cases.

Zimbabwe has alwys had an upper hand on Botswana.. i am sure the localy based zim players will giv the zebras a gud match practice.. besides we are not far off from the nations cup kick-off and we wouldnt want to stretch ourselvels to the limit. for yo own info.. the Zim Primier league is much stronger than the BeMobile Primier league in Botswana.

@joshkrugger..we hav never beaten Zimbabwe in any official match at any international age level.. let alone the friendly match played in Selibe Phikwe about 2 yers back when we beat the warriors 2-1. AT club level the zim clubs hav alwys knocked us out of CAF competitions..kool they didnt make it to the AFCON.. BT the fact is they are beter than us

@Joshkruger;
How on earth can u argue that one!The Zebras did well to get where they are & applaud them for that. You seem to have started supporting soccer when u heard the news that the Zebras have qualified for Afcon.Competetively,Botswana always get embarassed at home and away by Zimbabwe! Not so long ago,our local under 23 boys drew 2-2 and won by 3 if not 4 in Harare.Regionaly,Bots are still to prove that they can match Zim or Zambia & SA!Zim local league is way ahead of the Botswana League,Our Youth academies are a host of rare & abundant talent. Our FA in Zim has contributed to the dismal perfomance by our National team,so until out house is in order, the Zim National Teams will always fall at the last huddle! But still that does not mean Botswana has better talent than Zim or the Botswana league is much better than Zim's!!Its like a country's economy that has the potential to grow but simply needs te right people to stir it to success.U DIG?
