Morris & Katza for Santos not official

A proposed swoop by Santos for two SuperSport United defenders - Nasief Morris and Ricardo Katza – is nothing more than talk right now because Matsatsantsa have not received a formal request.

Fourteenth-placed Santos are believed to be seriously interested in bolstering their team with experienced players and the likes of Katza and Morris, who are both from Cape Town and would add defensive stability to a struggling team, seems a correct channel to explore.

KickOff.com spoke to Katza and SuperSport's Chief Operations Officer, Jose Ferreira, to find out more.

"I was called by both Edries Burton and Goolam Allie (Santos' COO and CEO) and they expressed interest. But nothing formal has come through yet," Ferreira says.

Asked what SuperSport's position would be should a formal offer arrive soon, Ferreira said: "If one does come in then I'd discuss this with Gavin (Hunt, coach) and we'd look at it."

Katza, meanwhile, says he has heard of the interest and given his answer, it is clear the veteran has thought about it already.

"I have heard about the interest from Santos. I have had friends sending me pictures of stories in the Cape papers, but I have not been approached yet," says the man who started his career at now defunct Seven Stars.

"I'd need to settle into Cape Town knowing I have a contract for a few years, then I'd think about it. I don't want to go just for a six month loan and give up on all the great years I've had at SuperSport.

"And I am also happy at SuperSport so it would need to be worth my while. I am closing in on ten years with this club and nearing the record number of appearances so these things are in my mind."

Katza's contract ends in June this year and SuperSport have an option they could take on Katza, but as of yet nothing has been finalised.
