Lots of moves expected when the transfer window opens in January
New Year will bring transfer surprises
Posted: 2011-12-30 07:02
With only a few days left before the transfer window period re-opens, the biggest talk over the festive season has been the rumours linking both Itumeleng Khune and Simphiwe Tshabalala to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Both Khune and Tshabalala contracts with Kaizer Chiefs will expire in June next year and at this stage their business manager, Jazzman Mahlakgane, says no agreement has been reached between himself and Amakhosi on new contracts for both players.
Other speculation that could make the headlines during the transfer window is that of Mozambican international Elias Pelembe who is rumoured to be heading to join Orlando Pirates.
Pelembe's representatives and Mamelodi Sundowns negotiations were deadlocked before Christmas after the midfielder turned down the Brazilian's initial offer. Pelembe's manager Tim Sukazi says he is still waiting for the Brazilians to respond with a counter offer.
KickOff.com has been sniffing around about possible moves and gathered that fans can expect some exciting signings in the New Year.
Franklin Cale: (From: Mamelodi Sundowns to SuperSport United)
Gavin Hunt is a big fan of the Sundowns midfielder and SuperSport has been struggling on the left flank since Daine Klate moved to Orlando Pirates. Cale had not seen much action at Sundowns since before the Christmas break and with his contract at Sundowns expiring in June, a move away from Chloorkop is likely to happen in January.
Anthony Laffor: (From: SuperSport United to Mamelodi Sundowns)
Laffor has for years been linked with move to Sundowns and the Liberian international has not enjoyed his best form since rumours started circulating that he may be headed to Chloorkop. Laffor was recently fined by coach Gavin Hunt for failing to report to training and his relationship with the club is not good at the moment, if a conversation between yours truly and the former Jomo Cosmos player is anything to go by. A possible swap deal involving Franklin Cale, plus cash, is likely to become a reality this time.
Siphelele Mthembu: (From: Orlando Pirates to AmaZulu)
'Scara' has struggled with a long-term injury since returning from a loan-deal with Bloemfontein Celtic. Mthembu has since recovered but his chances of getting regular game at Pirates are almost zero as coach Julio Leal prefers playing Benni McCarthy as leading striker while Tukelo Rantie has also shown flashes of brilliance every time he comes on from the bench. Word is that Mthembu is heading back home to KwaZulu-Natal where he hopes to revive his career with Usuthu.
Siyabonga Nkosi: (From: Golden Arrows to Orlando Pirates)
This could be the surprise move as indications are already there that Nkosi is looking to move away from Golden Arrows. It is understood that Bucs boss Irvin Khoza is a big fan of Nkosi. The Iron Duke failed to sign him from Bloemfontein Celtic and the midfielder ended up signing for Kaizer Chiefs before moving overseas. A swap deal involving Clifford Ngobeni and Siyabonga Nkosi moving the opposite way might be on the cards in the New Year.
Other possible moves this coming transfer window period:
Koketso Mmotong (Sundowns to either Platinum Stars or Moroka Swallows)
Papi Zothwane (Mamelodi Sundowns to either Golden Arrows or Moroka Swallows)
Lucky Khune (Kaizer Chiefs to Free State Stars)
George Lebese (Kaizer Chiefs to Mamelodi Sundowns)
Nasief Morris (SuperSport United to Santos)
Clifford Ngobeni (Orlando Pirates to Golden Arrows)
Thela Ngobeni (Kaizer Chiefs) along with Chiukepo Msowoya and Mark Mayambela (both of Orlando Pirates) are also likely to move, but their next destination has not been revealed.
