Ayew crowned BBC African Footballer of the Year

Andre Dede Ayew crowned BBC African Footballer of the Year

Posted: 16 December 2011 Time: 07:14 pm

Ghana midfielder Andre Dede Ayew has been named the BBC African Footballer of the year for 2011.

The Ghana international who plays his club football at French side Olympique Marseille beat four stalwarts in African football in a text poll conducted by the British Broadcasting Corporation.   Ayew polled more votes than Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o, Ivory Coast pair of Yahya Toure and Gervinho and Mali star Seydou Keita who plays his club football at Barcelona.

Dede succeeds another Black Stars player Asamoah Gyan who won the award in 2010.

Ayew has been in great form for Olympique Marseille this season with nine goals in the domestic league and champions league since September when the season begun.

He could make it double delight in individual award terms after he was named in the shortlist of five for the more respected CAF African Player of the Year which will be named in Accra next week at the annual Glo African Football Awards.

What does seydou keita need to do to win the African footballer of the year. The guy is humble, professional, exceptionally talented and play for the worlds best team. Only Gardiola can see this.

Seidu who? He does not even get playing time. Playing for the best club does not make you a good player. Dede deserves it

Congratulation Dede. He is always a good player and he follows his father's step. Eto and Seydou are old players now they have past their prime . Dede deserve to win because he worked hard for it . Congratulations once more brother Ghana is on your shoulders.

Come on BBC. this is a joke. just because you want to create a sensation around his father who won it before. To be Frank, how can he be rated above Yaya Toure, Keita etc. He is not even in the top 5 of the young African footballers of the year. If Dede can win it then it means a lot about African footballers. He is not even the top guy in the Ghanaian squad

Congrats Ayew!!! Well deserved. Don't listen to that a.s.s. wipe called zakumi. He wishes it was his hobbo mate sphiwe "hlokoloza" shabala to have won that award; which will only happen on a cold day in hell. There are very few recognised left footed playaz and sorry 4 u zamubi, but your hobbo chimp from zebra camp doesn't fit the pedigree. Oh sorry, the bill since you are illiterate to understand big words.
