Benni McCarthy is going to use the prize money from his Telkom Knockout Striker of the Tournament award to throw a party for his Orlando Pirates teammates.
"First and foremost I'd just like to thank my teammates for the hard work, the commitment and the effort they put in every single day in training. They also made me change my attitude," McCarthy said immediately after receiving his award.
"Although I'm an older player, an experienced player, they made me put in the hard work and it had merit because I ended up with the striker of the tournament."
In fact, to show his appreciation, the 34-year-old striker has decided to use his R100 000 prize money on a party for his teammates.
"It is Christmas time and I think the team has put in a magnificent effort, and I know the chairman is probably going to hate this but I promised the boys I was going to give them a special 'European' welcoming.
"That's how we do it in Europe, we always have Christmas parties, nice and respectable, but we have R100 000 to spend. So that is what I'm going to do with the R100 000, spend it on my teammates because without them I wouldn't have won the award," grins McCarthy.
He also went on to add that he was a little disappointed that he only scored three goals in the tournament, losing out on the bonus prize money.
"As a striker you are never satisfied with what you end up with in goals. I always felt there were like a few games where I could have scored way more than I did, but obviously as long as I helped the team get the victory and progress to the next round, that was always our objective.
"But I am little bit disappointed because myself and my teammates let slip the possibility of me winning the R150 000 bonus!"
What a party THAT would have been …
Maybe something like THIS Manchester City party.
