Following his R100 000 prize money award for Midfielder of the Tournament for the 2011 Telkom Knockout Cup, it is clear Bidvest Wits' Sifiso Myeni is a mommy's boy.
In honour of his mom and all that she has done for him while growing up, Myeni said he would not be spending his prize money on any extravagant gifts but will rather give the R100 000 to his mom.
"When I used to grow up I dreamt of playing for a PSL team and my first salary I gave to my mum, and this was my first individual award in such a big tournament and I will do the same thing. I am going to give the money to my mum," confirmed Myeni.
Speaking about the actual award itself the 23-year-old said: "It's a good thing and I am happy, it is an honour. It is also nice that people have recognised what I do because it has been a long-time dream of mine to receive an individual reward.
"Personally, for me, though, if there was an award for team effort I'd give it to my team because we played well and we fought to be where we are."
Myeni also felt a little sorry for his fellow nominees in the midfield category, but said in the end there could only be one winner.
"To Oupa (Manyisa), (Isaac) Chansa and Sibusiso Vilakazi they all played well and worked hard throughout. I think all four of us deserved the award, but at the end of the day there has to be one and I was the chosen one thanks to God."
Now that the tournament is over, Myeni also highlighted that his team were going to focus on their League form and not worry about the loss to Pirates in the final.
"We took the loss to Pirates as anything else. We were not under pressure, obviously we wanted to play to win but for us we just see it as another loss, and for us as a team we just have to move forward from here and will worry about getting six points before the end of the year," concluded the Wits man.
