Benni McCarthy has spoken of his delight at reaching what he feels is an acceptable fitness level.
Upon his arrival at Orlando Pirates at the beginning of the season, McCarthy's fitness was a subject of much discussion, but now he feels not even his biggest critics should dare bring up the topic any longer, especially after he was named Striker of the Tournament for his sterling display during the 2011 Telkom Knockout.
"The weight is alright, and you can see by the way I play. I played for 90 minutes in two weeks so whoever still has doubts about my weight, or whatever it is they call me, good luck to the haters," McCarthy says.
The 34-year-old further says he is convinced more than ever that he joined the right club, adding that he could not have asked for better teammates.
"I know I can play football and I can play in any team if I put my mind to it and work hard. Pirates ain't no different," he says.
"I wouldn't be able to pick myself up if it wasn't for my teammates. These guys have helped me a hell of a lot so I can score goals for the team, so a big shout-out to my teammates," McCarthy adds.
