Orlando Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane is unhappy over Bucs coverage

Modisane demands fairness

Orlando Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane says he is unhappy over the coverage given to the team after their Telkom Knockout triumph.

Modisane believes the scuffle that ensued between Benni McCarthy and Eric Tinkler on the touchline at half-time has instead hogged the spotlight and thus "clouded" Bucs' moment of glory.
 
"It is a concern for me to look at the dailies and we don't have that moment when Lucky Lekgwathi lifted the trophy with the entire team," Modisane tells KickOff.com.
 
"We don't have a double spread on any paper. All that we could see is the negative stuff and that tends to cloud our victory.

"Why do we have to focus on the negatives and not the positives? It is a point of concern and it doesn't warrant any comment from anybody. It is my opinion and I can be proved wrong by the scribes," Modisane says.
 
"We are collecting trophies and we have made history by winning a trophy that has eluded us for so many years and to top it all, we were playing with our 75th anniversary shirt and this team is emulating the team of 1973, so the focus must have been on our victory not the negative stuff.

I am one of those who complain about 'unfair' reportage by tabloid such as Soccer Laduma who are obsessed with KC and thus hardly cover other media starving teams and the idiots thought that I am against Soccer Laduma and KickOff, today they know for sure what do I stand for.

It can even go to the extent of telling VV to play Nengomashe as the central-defender, it can even question VV's tactics and it has never done this with other coaches why?

Why there is such a fuss or furore over media reportage? We must think within football parameters, soccer is part of socio-economic and political affairs and therefore media comes in as an entity that uses football as commodity and thus, it decides on what generates income for it.

Even if you were one of the owners of KICKOFF or SL, you will obviously pursue stories that will generate more money. If for example when you feature KC-related story as the main article in your paper and you have 15 million readers buying the paper whilst putting Jomo Cosmos player as the main story, you get 2.5 million buyers, is obvious you'll go for a selling brand

If KC wasn't a biggest-selling brand SL would have long stopped reporting on KC with such obsession.

KING, we must be honest and maybe remove our teams' tags a bit and realistically accept that media is killing our soccer, I have raised this issue and since some people merely relish writing nonsense couldn't engage in earnest on this important issue.

I have asked why our players do not make it big in Europe? We failed to engage on this important issue to an extent that we find the fitting answer. We should not let media to dictate our sports, I am sure that BBK, Tiyani and others are merely journalists/reporters by virtue of their 'academic acquisitions', they do not know the dynamics of sports in general.

If one feels like he has been fouled by the media, there are reporting structures to follow.

I dont know how does one creates a thought that the media is the reason for SA football to fall, SA football behaves and the media reports on that particular behavior. We give them stories, we give them reason to report to the public eg Jali's story, Jali is public figure who must understand that, his career is subjected.

As a Chiefs supporter(not Bobby FC supporter), I will have to agree with sister modisane. Since last season pirates proved to be the best in south african and they continuing again this season. But the media hardly covers the achievement that the current players are enjoying. This players are re-writing history that even the best teams in the world are unable to do...your man u, barca, inter, etc.

They deserve to be in the front page of every news paper, magazine even toilet paper. The players were suppose to be interviewed in every soccer show on tv and radio.

Come next weekend BobbyFC will be playing, this week you gonna see many stories about this useleSs team
