Accra Hearts of Oak took full advantage of Kotoko's absence in the Glo Premier League to draw level with their arch rivals by beating Medeama 2-1 in Accra for their first League win in three games.

The game between the top two in Ghana, Kotoko and Chelsea has been postponed to midweek because of Kotoko's participation in a commemorative game in Tanzania and Hearts of Oak made the most of that, leapfrogging Chelsea into 2nd place on goal difference and drawing level on points with Kotoko.

Instead, the Phobians took just a point off the side from Tarkwa that leaves them level on points with Kotoko and two ahead of Chelsea.

And they had to earn that by coming from behind. Medeama took a 23rd minute lead from the penalty spot through Francis Coffie but Hearts were level two minutes later thanks to a strike from Mahatma Otto.

On 73 minutes, Hearts got the badly needed breakthrough in controversial circumstances. Medeama thought Richard Mpong had been fouled in the build up but referee waved play on and Atakorah Gyimah who slotted home to the fury of the visiting team.

Hearts won't care though because they are back to winning ways and have turned the heat on Kotoko who must now beat Chelsea to regain their three point lead over their arch rivals.

Wa All Stars are in third place, a point behind Hearts of Oak after collecting a valuable point on the road at Ebusua Dwarfs. Seidu Bancy gave Dwarfs the lead with his fifth goal of the season on 24 minutes but All Stars equalised after 38 minutes thanks to Frank Sarfo Gyamfi.

New Edubiase soared to 18 points on the league, three behind leaders Kotoko with a 2-1 win over Aduana Stars thanks to a brace by the league's top scorer Emmanuel Baffour who has now scored an incredible 11 goals in 11 games this season already.

Elsewhere, bottom club Wassaman United were 2-0 winners over Liberty Professionals but are still bottom of the log while in Berekum, AshantiGold's fortunes showed no remarkable improvement, drawing 1-1 against Arsenals. The game between Heart of Lions and Bechem United ended goalless. Tema Youth came back from behind twice to draw 2-2 against Mighty Jets.
