Botswana are having to weather a potential storm ahead of their debut Africa Cup of Nations, with players holding out for a win-bonus of $2,000, $6,000 less than the Black Stars presently receive for home wins.
Ghana will play Botswana in their opening Nations Cup group D game on January 24th in Franceville with a gulf between the two sides at a footballing level.
While Ghana will line up with mostly Europe based professionals and plenty of Nations Cup experience, debutants Botswana will take to the field with mostly home based stars.
And now it seems the reward scheme will vary drastically too. Ghana's players earned $8,000 for home wins in the 2012 qualifying while bagging $10,000 for wins away from home.
Botswana's players are demanding US$13,292 for every member of the final 23-man Nations Cup squad.
Each squad member also wants a US$2,000 bonus per win, and US$1,000 per draw, in the competition's group stages.
And the Zebras want their camping allowance increased to around $13 per night. The Black Stars receive at least $100 for camping allowance.
While the bonus issues underlines the difference between the two sides, it provides no clues as to how the meeting between the two sides will go.
Botswana were magnificent in qualifying, winning five of their six group games including a stunning away win over 2004 champions Tunisia. Ghana meanwhile have been undone by relative new comers in the past with Zimbabwe responsible for the country's exit at the group stage of the 2006 Nations Cup.
