Solly Luvhengo says Amajita were unlucky to exit

Luvhengo also plays 'unlucky' card

Posted: 2011-12-07 13:17

Despite a 5-1 defeat to Zambia, Amajita coach Solly Luvhengo says his side were ‘unlucky’ to be eliminated from the 2011 Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships currently underway in Botswana.

Amajita were thumped in the final Group C fixture on Tuesday in Gaborone, having earlier beaten Mauritius 4-0 and drawn 1-1 against Tanzania.

“The boys worked really hard preparing for this tournament, and even twice as hard during the event,” Luvhengo says.

“This is a huge disappointment, even though the players gained a lot of international experience which should help us when we prepare for the African Youth Championship qualifiers set to begin next year.

“This was a tough tournament; we gave our best but luck was not our side. My players lost momentum in the second half of our clash with Zambia and could not get back into the match.

“We should have scored at least two goals in the first half to be in the driving seat because we created a lot of scoring opportunities.

“We need to find ways of converting the chances we make because without scoring we will not win matches – and our first match against Mauritius was proof of that. We have to interact with club coaches to deal with this issue as it is of utmost importance.”

Score line of 5-1 does not suggest that there was an element of bad luck in the result. You got beaten good and proper. Accept it and resign because you have failed to qualify in a mickey mouse tournament like COSAFA

If u can score 4 against mauritius, I don't believe the goal scoring problems came by only during the Zambian game. Say u wer just bettered.

5-1 badluck? Clearly pisto has trained this guy very well as it is a pisto trademark to cry how well he played and therefor luck deserted him. this guy saw the verysame happen to bafunny ,u23's and now u20's. Very amazing how these cash stripped countries succeeds most times while a country with everything a footballer needs has always fails and make pathetic excuses ,all the time. Ha ha ha , loosers!!

New terminology in SA: unlucky- meaning we lost and its OK if we lose again; when did the game of soccer depend on luck when there are technical experts doing the job!
