Zambia put 5 past SA Under-20s in Cosafa Cup

Zambia put 5 past Amajita

Posted: 2011-12-06 17:27

Amajita were thrashed 5-1 by Zambia in the Cosafa Under-20 Youth Championships in Botswana this afternoon.

The result is especially lamentable as it comes in the wake of the Under-23s' failure to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics at the weekend.

The Zambians walk out of Group C and into the semi-finals, while South Africa, who needed a win to go through, finished third behind Tanzania.

Zambia play Malawi – who won Group B – on Thursday.

Evans Kangwa, who is looking likely to join Orlando Pirates, opened the scoring for the Zambians midway through the first half.

The scoreline remained the same until the 57th minute, when Ronald Kampamba intercepted a backpass and made it 2-0. Just two minutes later it was 3-0, when Shadreck Malambo scored.

Kangwa got his second two minutes after that, before Sanele Khuzwayo got a consolation goal for South Africa from the spot.

But Kampamba put the scoreline beyond doubt with a second just before full time.

Nematandani ,Shoes Mazibuko are destroying our football , we've been an embarassment since they took office , they lack business acumen and there to fulfill their selfish ambitions .

zwai : 2011-12-06 18:53

did i hear nematandani says we dont have a crises?

Mini: 2011-12-06 19:18

Fire all the incompetent moron and leave Bra shakes with Amaglug Glug. The sangoma is not a problem here but our coaches are. I have used muthi and eventually discovered that it simply does not work. But I think Nematandani also needs to resign.

@Zed, money is not an issue when it comes to winning. Actually there are a lot of great stars who played from poverty! Check out poor backgrounds for Brazilians, Nigerians, Ivorian the list is too long. Putting money first spoils the game. With or without cash teams must be determined to perform. Many rich countries have under-performing teams. Well, good news to young copper bullet, 5-1? Was it netball?

S\'vunguvungu: 2011-12-06 19:50

this day reminds of of the early year of our re admisiom backto fifa...in early 90's when we wer the whiping boys....sithe lwa induku..senior,junior baby Bafana....no one is better....khal'nduku qha.tltltltlltltlltt.i just cant help but laugh...and am sure SAFA will submit a letter of complain ,maybe a pitch was not up to standard

TP : 2011-12-06 20:44

Surprise...surprise,when Luvhengo announced his squad for Cosafa there were only 2 comments on Kickoff.I raised my concern for having only 3 strikers.Anyway I still maintain that our soccer bosses,Irvine,Kaizerincluded are to be blamed for lack of development.Players who are supposed to be playing for junior teams are being refused by their clubs & they only go through the seniors without playing for juniors.Only then they get the match competition from African Nations & they get hammered at Bafana bafana. Then we point a finger at the coaches. As long as this corporates are sponsoring names i.e Chiefs,Pirates & overlooking development our soccer will suffer.Part of this sponsorship should be channeled towards development & if this teams don't use it that way, then it must go back. When Irvine & Psl increased gate entrances they should have atleast thought abt pledging 1 rand a ticket towards development. This is really a crime to ignore development & teams like Chiefs are going into Zimbabwe for a quick fix, which is not helping.Sports department is also at fault because instead of pushing for schools sports, they sponsor associations like Safa,CSA,ASA & this associations are in no way in short of sponsors. So the culprits here is Psl bosses/Safa,Sponsors& Government.

ABENA KITWE IN GABS: 2011-12-06 20:49

great zambia keep it up.

KaMashobana : 2011-12-06 20:50

Lets be realistic here, Safa & inyanga are less of our problems. Our problem no 1 is our players are just overrated useless cows. 2 Our national team coaches are clueless about the tactical aspects of the game. This combination is a disaster.

TP : 2011-12-06 21:11

As long as development is not taken seriously we are doomed.South African players play soccer to show off, where as in Africa & some parts of the world, it is an easy way out of poverty.i.e Brazil & Zimbabwe.

Zambia Under-20 advanced to the semi-finals of the Cosafa Under-20 after beating South Africa 5-1 in the winner takes it all Group C final group match courtesy of a brace each from Evans Kangwa brace and Ronald Kampamba, and goal from Shadreck Malambo. The problem with South Africans is that they expect too much from their players not withstanding the quality,player/coach skills and talent available.I hope they wont complain to cosafa about the state of the pitch as always a complainant.

guyz have u paid that sangoma?

Donald Duck: 2011-12-07 11:55

I really dont understand the logic that when our teams loose, the CEO must resign? can someone please explain this to me cause Nematandani didn't select players; he didn't coach the players;the PSL refuses to release players to spite SAFA because they want the positions. Really can someone explain to me why he has to resign? thanks..

mompoloki: 2011-12-07 12:09

guyz have u paid that sangoma?

critic: 2011-12-07 14:23

Who is Luvhengo? We have great former international stars in the likes of Doctor, Bartlett, Fish, Radebe, Shoes etc, they can take over as youth coaches. Why appoint someone who possibly does not know how bad it feels to loose a match at that level?

harareexpress: 2011-12-07 16:28

Well, what can I say ...? The last time I spoke on the issue of SA being a wealthy country that can afford to dominate all in this region, I was called names. I will reiterate - SA has no business losing by such a scoreline, to any Nation at all, especially in the region. Look at at objectively, this way ... In South African football, there is a wealth of cash even (before we speak of talent). There are a lot of sponsors ... In Zim, which is the case inmost South African countries, there is not a single sponsor for even the senior national team. I remember for a while, at his peak (both physically and financially) Peter Ndhlovu was the sole sponsor of the Warriors of Zim ... and so was Benjani after the Wariiors' qualification for Egypt 2006. Benjani entirely sponsored the whole tam and its delegations' preparatory tour of France. Benjani even paid a National Electricity Debt at one point. This just shows the dire straits in the region. My argument has always been that except for personal gain, maybe (and just 'maybe') SA players have very motivation and zeal to do well. Consider the guy who scored the brace for Zambia, he has been in the sights of Orlando Pirates and he knows this very well. He is motivated to impress and move form the poverty of Lusaka to the glitz and glam of SA and the Bucs - where there is real bucks (no pun intended). The situation I am very familiar with is that of Zim, where the Under 20's went into the tournament without having camped for over 5 days even, as there was no resources to have this. They had no guarantee that they would even receive their salaries because the money simply isnt there. Companies are not yet finding it fruitful to sponsor football when they are not sure that they will remain viable. Understandably, the players are not motivated at all ... the truth, no matter how much we talk against it - money motivates. The lack of it just leaves you exposed. Certainly that is not the problem in SA football. Our players are leaving our league to pay in the Mzansi Diski - and they cite the cash awash as the main motivation - no wonder even if they dont make it to Europe they still remain content. They will be playing in the 10th best league in the world and they have the material possessions to show for it when they return home on breaks.

meg7113: 2011-12-07 20:14

@Hararexpress,Your views are biased and immature. Which Poor Lusaka are you talking about? Dont think every player from Zambia is very poor. Do you know homes of players in Lusaka? The likes of Jacob Mulenga if you know him is from a rich family and so many more. Have you ever been there before to their home to see how the players live? The boys Kangwa Evans and Kampamba did not shine to impress Pirates and South Africa. Your research is very poor and am disappointed. Those boys are doing wonders, as a matter of fact the same demolished the Indians not long ago. Pirates have not heard about him from Cosafa tournament but from football agents. By the way Chipolopolo has never been sponsored by Kalusha or any player but have managed to participate fully. Who paid? The government of course. Dont forget the freedom you now enjoy in Zim from whites was also heavily funded by Zambians. Change your mentality and grow. Zambians do not cross borders to sell sweets, tomato or two sugar canes to neighbouring countries. I pity the issues in Zim. Leave poverty in soccer issues.

meg7113: 2011-12-07 20:41

Real bucks for football players is in Congo DRC and not in South Africa. Check the standard of soccer in that country of late. Players motivated by money will never go any where. Play your best whether for free or not. It is sad most people have killed their talents because of greed. When I was a teacher I taught very well without looking at my pay. Now I enjoy to see how my former students are doing. Play passionately for your country first before asking for money. The history you will make is much more important than the dollars (not Zim)in your pocket. I don't think our soccer legends played foe money no wonder we still remember them. For Zim situation that is the reason they sponsored their national team. They are not greedy to amass for their own.

BigJ_Okocha: 2011-12-08 11:51

All South african national teams are a flop.

BigJ_Okocha: 2011-12-08 11:55

South African confuse talent with money. And unless they get to admit that talent is talent. Talent has no relationship to money. After all even a lot of those black south african platyers reside in the shacks in the townships like Khayelitsha, Langa, Alex etc, so I don not see why the soccer players in south want to pose as though they come from sandon or camps bay. We know they come from Mangaung Phase3, Alexandra, Nyanga, so why always boast about camps bay and sandon
