Arrows hit fourth

Golden Arrows beat Thanda Royal Zulu 3-1 in a free-flowing Durban Derby on Saturday.

Arrows came out attacking, played excellent short-passing football, and deserved the win.

Mauricio Pequenino opened the scoring for Arrows, and Sehlolo Nale got a brace either side of half time. Serge Djiehoua closed the scoring with a consolation goal for Thanda.

The first goal came in the fifth minute, when Kagisho Dikgacoi flicked on Joseph Musonda’s throw-in for Pequenino, who reacted quickly to slot home from close range.

In the 24th minute Vumane Mavundla passed to Nale from just outside the box, and although Thanda’s new Icelandic keeper Arni Arason attempted a clearance, the dreadlocked youngster was too quick and scored a brilliant goal with his left foot.

Thanda coach Roger Palmgren brought on Scara Ngobese and Serge Djiehoua after the break, and the two players made a brave effort to change the game.

The tactics didn’t, however, prevent Arrow from making it 3-0 in the 71st minute; Philane Shange, who had a great game, sent in an excellent corner to Nale, who scored his second of the game.

Djiehoua restored a little of Thanda’s pride when he rose above Arrows' ball-watching defence to head in a Japie Motale cross in the 78th minute.

The result takes Arrows to fourth on the log with 38 points, while Thanda stay third from bottom with 24.
