The South African Under-23 side lost 2-0 to Egypt and failed to qualify for the semifinals of the CAF Under-23 Championships on Saturday night.
In an entertaining match that could have produced a goal avalanche Egypt proved more clinical in front of goal getting their goals from Mohamed El Nenny in the 46th minute and Marouan Mohsen in the 63rd minute.
In the other match Gabon beat Ivory Coast 3-1 to qualify for the semifinals on goal difference along with Group B winners Egypt.
The eight-team Under-23 tournament taking place in Morocco serves to determine the three automatic 2012 Olympic qualifiers from Africa, as well as one fourth placed play-off side which will take on an Asian representation ahead of London 2012.
