Bivest Wits and Golden Arrows shared the spoils as their League match ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sifiso Vilakazi netted a brace in the first half before Thamsanqa Gabuza and Collins Mbesuma fired back for Arrows.
The home side opened the scoring in the second minute when Vilakazi got in ahead of Musa Bilankulu to glance his header towards the far post, beyond Helton da Rocha’s reach.
Roger de Sa’s men could’ve doubled the lead six minutes later. Nyiko Tshabangu received a pass from Pule, but his heavy first touch allowed Joseph Musonda to recover and clear the ball.
The visitors also created good chances and came close to leveling matters in the 29th minute when Gabuza latched onto a through-ball from Philani Shange, but saw his shot saved by Energy Murambadoro.
Murambadoro was called into action again in the 28th minute blocking a powerful shot from Shange.
A minute later Wits were awarded a penalty when Musonda was adjudged to have pushed Vilakazi inside the box. The striker made no mistake with the kick as he sent Da Rocha the wrong way.
Gabuza pulled a goal back for Muhsin Ertugral’s side in the 38th minute when he collected the ball in the middle of the park and ran right through the Wits defence before placing the ball past the exposed goalkeeper.
The equalizing goal arrived in the 63rd minute when Mbesuma found himself unmarked on the edge of the penalty area and went around Murambadoro before passing the ball into an open net.
Both sides could’ve stolen the game towards the end with Patrick Phungwayo and Thando Mngomeni getting close for Wits, while Gabuza and Shange continued to trouble the home side’s defence and goalkeeper.
