Under-23 coach ‘Shakes’ Mashaba has moved Phumelele Bhengu to defence in a team to play Gabon tonight in a CAF Under-23 Championship match.
The match between South Africa and Gabon will kick-off at 7pm South African time.
Mashaba has announced his starting eleven for the match and Bhengu, who scored in the first match against Ivory Coast in a 1-all draw, will play in defence with Eric Mathoho being rested due to injury.
Bhengu has previously played in defence for the U-23s and with his versatility again again to the fore, Santos striker Riaan Eugene will partner Rodney Ramagalela upfront.
SA U-23 starting eleven:
Brilliant Khuzwayo - Phumelele Bhengu, Sibusiso Mxoyana, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Gladwin Shitolo - Thandani Ntshumayelo, Sameehg Doutie, Mandla Masango, Jabulani Shongwe - Riaan Eugene, Rodney Ramagalela
