Gabon boosted by overseas players

South Africa's opponents in today's Olympic qualifiers being staged in Morocco, Gabon have been bolstered by the arrival of a contingent of overseas-based players.

This was disclosed by Gabon coach Claude Albert in an interview with Cafonline.

"We had a few injuries after our first match against Egypt but they have all recovered and are back in training. Our overseas–based players, who missed the first match, are also here now," he says.

Despite their loss to Egypt, Albert says he is still confident that his side has a chance of qualification to the semi-finals as he believes all four teams in the group are equal in strength.

"My players were not in form against Egypt. We stopped their attack all through the first half and ended it even. The Pharaohs made use of a defensive error to score the game's only goal."

"I believe the team who commits least mistakes will be in the final."

Albert describes his South African opponents as "a great team that will be motivated".

"They will enter tonight's game with a point in their bag, but we don't fear them. We just respect all the teams in the group and I believe my players are up to the challenge."
