Nigeria's Olympic Team beat Nania Football Club in friendly

Posted: 11 November 2011 Time: 06:50

Nigeria's Olympic Team continued their preparations for the CAF Under-23 tournament with a 2-0 tune-up win over Ghana’s FA Cup and Super Cup champions, Nania Football Club.

Bangladesh-based striker Sunday Nwadialu and Sudan-based Francis Ikechukeu were the goal scorers.

Both goals came in the last quarter of an hour, with Nwadialu opening the scoring after 74 minutes and Ikechukwu adding the second six minutes later.

Odah Onoriode could have made it three with five minutes of play left, but his shot was inches away.

And Ikechukwu also failed to make the most of a one on one with the goalkeeper in stoppage time.

“The game would have easily ended 5-0 if my wards converted their chances, but I must commend Abedi Pele, this is a good side you have here. They truly deserve to be Champions,” Nigeria coach Austin Eguavoen stated after the game.

“What this game has done however is to expose some of our lapses which we would work on before our next friendly.”

The Team’s next tune-up game is on Sunday with a yet to be named side.

Nigeria Team:

Dele Ajiboye 45”( Femi Thomas) Chima Akas, Markson Ojobo, Papa Idris 68”(Samiu Laidi) Atu Irumekhai 53”(Ugonna Ezewanka) Ayo Saka ©, Gbolahan Salami 85” ( Rasheed Olabiyi) Oseni Ganiu 65”( Sunday Nwadialu) Afolabi Abdulwaheed 65”( Francis Ikechukwu) Osas Okoro 60” ( Odah Onoriode) Edet Ibok.

I will watch the team play another tune up game against another team (Tema Lions)in Tema tomorrow. I would attempt to give a fairly thorough analysis of the encounter after the game, though bear in mind that about 50% of the guys here will return to Lagos next Wednesday while the real team will just be shaping up after-wards.
@ gozie, there is no need to form any group as the team leaves Accra next week. So far, at every training session, few Naijas there make it a point to reemphasize the importance of their qualification. The boys are showing a lot of positive attitude and high level of discipline here. We invited some of them (wont mention names) for a drink just by the pool side and they politely declined that the camp rules forbid that.
