Nigeria Premier League leading scorer Jude Aneke has been called up by Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi as a replacement for Osaze Odemwingie.

“I spoke with Osaze yesterday and he told me he did not feature for his club in their last game because he was injured and would not be fit in time for these games,” Keshi said. “So I decided to call up Jude Aneke.

“He is the highest goalscorer in the Nigerian League, and he has scored a record 20 goals which is impressive, so he deserves to be in the national team.”

Aneke set a new Premier League scoring record when he hit his 20th goal of the season last week.

The forward, who plays for unfashionable Kaduna United, is said to be headed for Belgian club Genk during the winter transfer window.

Good move. Let's hope we've found a striker who can salvage situations and not those who kick a goal-bound opportunity backwards instead of forward and thereby defiling the primary laws of physics ( indirectly sabotaging themselves and thinking they're paying a Coach back ).

i dnt no if any other person observ wot i observed at the last line of dis acticle?dat the striker will be headin to belgium for a club.by the time he does dat,will he still be a home base? ur guess is as good as mine.i pointed dis out basically for some of us who wud always clamour for home base players.u see, the aim of any player weather home all forighn is 2 make money.so sayin dat we shud stick 2 our home base players doesnt make sence 2 me cos no player wud like 2 be forever home base.as for ANEKE i wish him success to infinito.

is like NFF have restricted colin from given updates from camp,as for us not to start early castigation on the dicsiplinary action on the team as regards to how it use to be under siasia.i tink by now there shud have been atleast up to 10 players in the camp with the view of how it use to be.colin pls update us ooooooooooooooooo.

Nigeria are set to lose talented left-footed winger Sammy Ameobi after England U-21 boss Stuart Pearce handed him a debut call-up this week.
The younger brother of Shola Ameobi was keen to play for Nigeria and even made it to John Obuh's FlyingEagles camp earlier in the year. But despite admitting that he impressed, Obuh's interest ran cold.
Obuh had hailed the teenage star after watching him play for the team in warm-up games in Dubai while preparing for the African Youth Championship.
"He came and trained with usand in fact played two friendly games with us and I was hugely impressed with his performance" Obuh said in March.
There has also been no interest in the 19-year-old, who has already broken into the first team of Newcastle United in the English Premier League, from other national teams like the Dream Team Vand the Super Eagles.
Ameobi was invited for England' s upcoming Euro 2013 qualifier against Iceland in Colchester on Thursday.
Older brother Shola was recently cleared by FIFA to play for Nigeria .

@eshilolo and spot on, I agree with you guys. That's a very sound argument you raised there. We can't be clamouring for a home-based Super Eagles when the players themselves all want to play amongst the best in Europe. If the players themselves know that Europe is where the best footballing talents in the world converge (of course due mainly to commercial reasons), why then should we advocate for a home-based team? That is tantamount to leaving out your best players and presenting a 3rd or 4th string team as your National team, when all other countries are presenting their best. Definitely, if we do that we can't compete with the rest of the world.

Before we can think of doing that, our Nigerian football league has to be well developed in other to easily keep good players here and even attract talents from abroad. That is not going to happen overnight. It calls for private sector participation and solid organization on the part of our football administrators. Also, we cannot ignore the role our country's economy plays too. If the economy is not doing well, there's little one can do. So it all comes back to the sad state of governance in our country.

I seldom comment here because some people here just don't use logic at all. I will summarise my comments thus:
Siasia firing: He should not have been fired because we saw the progress in the team play and he did not lose to guinea, eguavoen lost to Guinea. Even Eguavoen can even excuse himself because NFF caused the lack of planning for the match. We were unlucky on that final day because we should have beaten Guinea silly like 5-2 if we have converted our chances. If Ferguson was fired when he was losing games few months into taking over at Man United, I don't think we will be talking about him as the greatest manager on earth by now. The signs were there in Sia's team but some people are blinded by emotions.

Keshi: I pray he qualifies us but to me he won't bring that good football that Sia's team was playing and in football, luck is also important so he may be lucky but he won't take the team to a great height at the World Cup even if he qualifies by fluke which is not impossible. Anybody can be lucky enough these days with averagely good players.

Local Based Players: I have said this times without numbers, we are fooling ourselves clamouring for any local team. Any player that is good will not be playing in the Nigerian League because as soon as you aare spotted in the team, you are off to Europe and will become part of the foreign contigent and the cycle will continue which means you can never have a local based team. What we need is play our best players whether local or foreign. If a player is good and just discovered locally, let him play but note that within months, he will be a foreign player too.

Age Cheating: this is one of our major problesm, I still don't know whey guys can't use their real age. There is nothing wrong in playing for Nigeria at 26 or 25 instead of claiming 18. At least we will know by 34 you are getting too old for the team. Because you can't cheat nature, when the player gets to that natural age of 34-36 they slow down badly. that is why our players slow down at 25 to 29 except few using their real age e.g Osaze, Etuhu, ****tu, Anichebe, Moses, etc. Ans some whom I can say reduced their age by 2 or 3 years but I can't confirm this: Ike Uche, Kalu Uche, Yobo, Mikel, Nsofor, Joel Obi. Note Okocha was hot for Eagles up to his 30s. Which shows he may have reduced just 3-4 years and not some reducing like 8 years e.g Aghahowa.
