Blunt Brazilians fall behind in title race

Posted: 2 November 2011 Time: 21:37

Title-chasing Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 0-0 draw by Platinum Stars in a game of few chances at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result leaves The Brazilians trailing Absa Premiership leaders SuperSport United by five points but in truth they deserved little out of what was a disappointing spectacle.

Chances were few and far between, though both sides did hit the woodwork – Lebo Ramolesa rattled the crossbar for Stars, while Nyasha Mushekwi hit a post late on for Sundowns.

Otherwise there was little to enthuse over, Richard Henyekane forced a good save from Siyabonga Mpontshane in the home goal, while Nathan Paulse beat the offside trap, but not Downs goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands.

Sundowns skipper Method Mwanjale was fortunate not to receive his marching orders late on when, having already been booked, he blatantly blocked off Stars’ Joseph Malangoane. There was no second yellow forthcoming from referee Lwandile Mfiki.

Sundowns will now have some time off with their next fixture only on November 20 at home to Maritzburg United in the League, while Stars now travel to Cape Town to meet Santos in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals on Saturday.

A point away is always welcome, but at Sundowns it's two points lost.

Our club is ridiculously inconsistent these days, phela scoring five in one match and failing to get even one in the very next is inexcusable.... Moriri has done no wrong, it's that truck Kekana who needs to be sacrificed when goals are needed, but as for Khenyeza, he remains a cow namanje, show me one professional player as foolish and headless as this Mabhuti, I'll show you better wizardry skills tha mash-doo, strus'bob!. mh.

I still repeat what I said last time, Rre Moriri is not the best guy for the position he's being made to play. WHY IS MATTY NOT GIVEN A CHANCE? Its just a matter of time before this Neekens guy also seeks police escort..... We have afforded this guy undeserved support and he's just taking us for granted. Doctor Mampuri (sp)is very pacy as right back he could easily complement the absence of Pelembe in attack but this guy selects a very stagnant guy instead. I rest my case but I must say, we are not in contention for the league unless something drastic is done.

I agree Futbal fan...as much as we cannot dictate to Neeskens s to who he should play, this playing Moriri in that role is crap,if he loves him so much,he could at least play him behind the strikers...flip,it's really frustrating watching this team,at the stadium or on telly.....Sky is the Limit still.

Mr/Ms Editor wouldn't it have been fair if we said Stars held by Sundowns?

So by virtue of everything, Chiefs did not lose two points, afterall, like the educated KO editors have insinuated!

Chiefs is better than Sundoms and Piecake Fc combined, problem is that the latter's KO fans have good use of the Ndululas called their mouths to out-speak the often polite khosis of this forum...

Love and peace until one of these clowns get a win!

I am saying it again: 4-3-3 is not for Downs. If Neskeems prefers
4-3-3 then he should play Cale on the left and Pelembe/Cheese on the right with Matty on left-mid, Teko/Nyatama/Zwane on right-mid, Hlompo in central-mid, Mampuru, Punch, Clayton, Mphahlele flat four
(no Mwanjali please. Mphela/Mushekwi/Henyekani as marksman. If he want to see the best of Moriri he should play 4-4-2 (Moriri behind the two strikers). Otherwise Dawana we will only beat teams such as Leopards convincingly with 4-3-3. If you look at the previous games we won, they were not convincing besides the leopards one.

Thank u coach, yesterday set up was not that bad. But now, de defense(incl goalie) need to push up as well for loose ball. But am sure u know what am talking abt. Next game nyatama should start in place of kekane. Coach I want u to play 1 defensive midfielder who can be creative on attack. As for our medical staff, u guys need to stop messing around with our intelligence. Y our players take so much time to recover. Maybe it high tym we get overseas medical and fitness staff. We need dose players. Downs is not chiefs where a players collect more money from hollard hospital plan then he gets from the team.

Dr Mampuru and mphahlele have injuries we cannot risk them,Pelembe on suspension due to 3 y.cards.Moriri passes far better than kekana why not Risking kekana ka Musa Nyatama,if we have Moriri,Nyatama,Modise and Mushekwi le henyekane we can win games it is not 4-3-3 it is 4-3-2-1 that why you will see 2 strikers,2 attecking midfielders and 2 defending midfielders

We played a very good Platinum Stars side. They could have stole the game on more than one occassion. I'm happy with the way we played. I'm happy with that point.

I'm worried Supersport is getting away. I'm worried about Teko who played so well and picked up an injury. Bad news for him and I hope it's not serious.
