A lack of concentration in defence for a period of about ten minutes severely cost the Lidoda Duvha as they were beaten 3-1 by Free State Stars after conceding three first half goals in their Absa Premiership match at the Peter Mokaba stadium on Wednesday night.
While Leopards may have started brightly some sloppy defending from the tenth minute to the 22nd minute saw them with a mountain to climb after Saname Wome, Katlego Mashego and Edward Mnqele had all scored for the Ea Lla Koto.
Initially, the home team passed the ball around nicely and looked really composed on the ball. That was until Stars cut open their defence with some sublime passing in the tenth minute which was concluded with a clinical finish from Saname Wome from just inside the 18-yard area, 1-0.
Ten minutes later and Leopards woes were compounded when Katlego Mashego scored Stars second goal after another good passing move saw him into space and he did the rest with a well placed shot, 2-0.
Two minutes later and the game was virtually out of Leopards hands as they went a third down when Edward Mnqele scored with a powerful shot from just inside the box, 3-0.
Shortly after the third goal Leopards suffered another huge blow as they lost their number one keeper who had to be replaced by Thabang Maluleke in the 31st minute.
However, instead of the loss dampening the Leopards mood they found inspiration from somewhere and pulled a goal back seven minutes before the half time break when Joshua Obaje scored the home side’s first goal with a deadly finish, 3-1.
The second half saw the Lidoda Duvha trying to fight their way back into the match, but they couldn’t find the right pass in the final third of the field that would break down the Stars defence.
For the visitors, they seemed content to sit back in defence and protect their lead. This made for a rather dull second 45 as Leopards lacked imagination in attack and the game ended 3-1.
