National First Division log leaders Blackburn Rovers were beaten 1-0 at home by Thanda Royal Zulu, while University of Pretoria gained some important ground when they overpowered Sivutsa Stars 2-1 at KaNyamazane.

There were also wins for Chippa United, FC Cape Town, FC AK and bottom-of-the-log Witbank Spurs.

Thanda’s winner came from Manqoba Ngwenya, which moves his club to within four points of Rovers, two behind second-placed AmaTuks, who have Chibuzor Nwogbo and Seydouba Soumah to thank for their important victory.

Chippa United moved up to a respectable seventh spot after a convincing 3-1 victory over Dynamos at Philippi on Friday night.

In fact, ‘Professor’ Ngubane’s side had to come from behind after Dynamos’ striker Joseph Mahlangu opened the scoring, but there was never any doubt as to which side would grab all three points with Welcome Qalanto, Masonwabe Bovu and Clayton Edem finding the back of the net for the Cape Town outfit.

FC Cape Town scored another good away win, overpowering Carara Kicks 1-0, with Asavela Mbekile netting, while struggling Witbank Spurs also did well to outmanoeuvre Atlie FC by the same score at Ackerville.

Spurs’ new signing Victor Ngunyule was the man of the moment; his goal has given the Witbank club renewed hope, in their fight against relegation.

At Eldorado Park, FC AK continued their astonishing form, knocking more nails into Mpumalanga Black Aces’ coffin as Houston Hills and William Twala made sure the home side beat the former PSL outfit 2-1.

Bay United continue down a dark road; the ex-PSL side again dropped points at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in a goalless draw with African Warriors which sees them third from bottom.
