Nwankwo Kanu says Nigeria must focus on 2013 Africa Cup of Nations

Kanu: Focus on 2013

Posted: 2011-10-18 10:53

Nigeria Football Ambassador, Nwankwo Kanu has stated that the focus should be on the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, rather than the failure to qualify for the 2012 edition.

"Yes, I can understand the pain being felt by Nigerians, as a former national team player myself. I can also feel how sad the players are. But the truth is that we just have to pick up ourselves and move on. What has happened has happened, but life must go on,” Papilo said.

As the next qualifiers loom large, Kanu said: "Qualifiers begin early next year and so we have no time to dwell on the ouster but must begin in earnest to plan for the competition.”

I was pro Siasia. Anyone that has been reading KON for the past 3 years knows how I campaigned for Amodu's sack and Sasia's appointment, but I am also a lover of Nigeria. My love for the Super Eagles supercedes whatever affection I have for an individual. It is in light of this that I will not toe the path of sentiment like other pro-Siasia bloggers, asking him to rewarded for dragging Nigeria football back 25 years. If Amodu deserves to be fired after qualifying Nigeria for the mundial as well as winning a bronze at the nations cup, then Siasia deserves to even refund the mega salaries he has been paid, for failing to do what Chukwu, Keshi, Eguavoen and Amodu did easily over the past 12 years or so.

A coach is only as good as his results

luise-hero: 2011-10-18 11:36

i wish i can turn back the hand of time ,,how i wish heroes never comes and go okocha, kanu ,finidi george ,tijani babaginda ,olisen, daniel amokachi, celestine babayero, gaba lawa, mutiu adepoju, samson siasia, uche okechuku, late uche okafor ,emanuel amunike, victor ikpeba, and Julius aghahuwa and the great peter rufai ,,many african country and the rest of the world knew our football by heart and always afraid of ******ia ,,football at that was predictable with somuch hope ,,watching our green eagles at that time was promising without any heart break but,,,,with this new unpatriotic no commitment looking money makers eagles like mikel ,osaze Dem you find yourself in a wonderland the green white green has really suffer in the hands of all this butch of no future eagles including our stupid NFF GOD have mercy

Kolawole1: 2011-10-18 11:39

All the talk about Nigeria not having good players anymore to me is a myth. Agreed, we dont have the likes of Jay Jay, Finidi, Oliseh, Yekini anymore, but then, can anyone mention the Madagacar or Guinean player who has the status of Yobo, Osze, Taiwo or Mikel in international soccer circles? Can any forumite mention the name of a single Ethiopian player? Yet we relied on an injury time goal to escape defeat in Addis Ababa. I believe that is where the ticket was lost, not in Abuja. Can Siasia expalin this? Can he explain why we played over 1 hour of football without scoring a single goal agianst the Madagascar U-23 team who 2 weeks prior to the game sacked their national team coah?
I was angry when I read Siasia(and many forumites) lay the blame o our qualification on Eguaveon losing by a lone goal in Conakry. Why didnt Siasia refuse the 3 points the super eagles, under Eguaveon, bagged by beating madagascar? Was Siasia not offerd the Super Eagles job then but was staling to comence duties simply because he wanted an orderly termination of his contract with Heartland FC?
What is the guarrantee that Siasia would not have lost against Guinea in Conakry? Please let's stop passing the buck.

luise-hero: 2011-10-18 11:40

@Kolawole1:we should leave this siasia issue to rest siasia go or stay naija football can never move forward with this crop of players and nff lol

Kolawole1: 2011-10-18 11:42

I honestly dont see where the NFF has erred in this issue. They have given Siasia the best contract ever for any locally employed coach. He was not short of quality friendlies. They allowed him free hand to tinker his team, hire and fire at will....

Let's say the truth Siasia has failed Nigeria. Period

Kolawole1: 2011-10-18 11:50

For Nigeria football to move forward, we need to improve our league. I was close to tears some weeks back when I watched Rangers vs 3SC play before an empty stadia. That was a fixture which 25 years ago would have caused brought Ibadan or Enugu to a stand still due to the massive turn out & rivalry. I laugh when I hear some people here make case for home based players. I ask: Where are the home based talents? The moment they score a hat-trick in a local derby they are on their way to Europe. Where is Ehiosun, Ahmed Musa and Gege Soriola? Are they not in Turkey, Holland and South Africa?

TeellThemm: 2011-10-18 11:52

Well-done Papilo for the talk, hope that most blind readers will see from your talk and learn that we need continuity with the coach in order to bring his team to limelight. You can't build a NATIONAL team with eight matches in-charge, NO ONE can in this world not even Mourinho or Ferguson who spent Seven years with-out a league trophy in-charge of Man U before the trophy start arriving. Building a team to challenge for honors take time to build not getting a team to qualify for a tournament for the sake of participating or coming third. I think Westerhof experience is a good example for us to see, why are people not seeing how long it take Westerhof to deliver the all conquering 94sqaud. Why do most Nigerian always want a quick fix.

@Kolawole1
What are the result of Siasia? and which team did Chukwu,Keshi, Amodu and Eguavoen play on with?. Did they ever have the guts to build a team of their own. They rely on the remnants of the team left by Westerhof and Bonfere Jo. So going to the nation cup and winning bronze is better than to build a team that will win it?. I will take a patient build of a team that will win a nation cup and even reach semifinal of the world cup to that of going to the nation cup and coming third just in the name of participating. For the past twelve years, can an average Nigeria fans boost of Nigeria first eleven, Did those coach have the guts to try new players or build a team for Nigeria, rather they all rely on the remnants of Westerhof and Bonfere players. I have seen improvement in our team which I have not seen for the last 12 years and a winning team takes time to gel before winning trophies. Discipline is not left out as well. Siasia lost only one match and that is against Argentina in a friendly match. If only those morons at the glass house has wisdom, let it rule their judgment.

luise-hero: 2011-10-18 11:53

the truth is our failure to qualifier for AFCON was the Argentina friendly match ,,i made it clear on several occasion that the nff is giving much attention to the match more than that of Ethiopia match and the boys were carried alway by the 4 goals hoping the ethip will be match over
@ Kolawole1: have you ever see were a national team travel 4hours to an important match on the same day ,right from onset i really never like siasia mr discipline role of which i remember vividly you were among those that call me names when osaze issue comes up of which i and some forum-mates were condemn try to say the truth ,,but what am trying to say the nff use siasia as an arrow the NFF fail Nigeria not siasia

Kolawole1: 2011-10-18 11:59

I honestly feel the post of NFF technical director should be offered to Clemens Westerhoff while a foregn coach with experience coaching in Africa e.g. MILOVAN RAJEVAC or maybe the available former Ajax, Olympiakos and Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate be employed to tinker the Super Eagles for the 2014 world cup. Siasia should be retained to assist him for continuity sake and he should have another shot at the Super eagles job after 2014 world cup.
I am also for continuity, but I am well aware the chances of us picking one of the 5 tickets to 2014 mundial with Siasia at the helm is virtually zero.
Local coaches contend with too many factors and sentiments to make them discharge their duties effectively. I doubt if Osaze will walk out on an expatriate coach like he did Siasia. I doubt if he will LIE his way out of a friednly with Ghana, claiming he has to do an operation, only to score for his clubside 4 days later. I doubt if Mikel will arrive late in camp and still refuse to pay the $5000 fine if ten Cate or Rajevac is his manager

Kolawole1: 2011-10-18 12:10

@TeellThem and louise-hero.

Rebuilding does not translate into missing out from a tournament minnows like Niger Republic and Botswana are participants! With proper coaching, I still expected Nigeria to scale through even while fielding Eguavoen's U-23 team (A squad bustling with talents) Are you guys ready to take responsibility if we miss out on a 2014 ticket? will your love of Siasia, 'rebuilding' or 'continuity' soothe frayed nerves then?

Chelsea FC is gradually rebuilding now, yet still grinding out results. Be wise compatriots!!!

NIITAMP: 2011-10-18 12:16

You see all those calling for Milovan Rejavac should forget abt him, yes he was successful with Ghana because he had all he needed in Ghana to play his kind of football. He is a defensive minded coach he packs his midfield and defence and play one top. Ghana has a lot rough and rugged to play such style of game. I don't see Nigeria been successful with him because this super eagles team lacks midfielders and defenders, the team is full of strikers. Rejavac after Ghana has not been successful anywhere the last time I checked he has been sacked from his last job. Siaone might be that bad but I beg forget Milovan Rejavac

TeellThemm: 2011-10-18 12:18

@Kolawole1
You are right, those players won't have guts to do what they are doing under Siasia if it is a white coach that is in-charge, but the white coach will still apply the same disciple act or fine which Siasia has apply and every one including the media will hail him for that but when it come to Siasia it is down to sentiment. Why can't ppl stand by Siasia when it come to discipline, can this same players act like they are doing at the super eagles camp in their various club?. Let Siasia be left alone to build a team with those that have the intent of playing for Nigeria at heart.

NIITAMP: 2011-10-18 12:20

I mean Milovan Rejavac had a lot of rough and rugged midfielders in Ghana and that help his style of play he won't get that kind in Nigeria.

Shijo: 2011-10-18 12:31

@Kolawole, your sentiments are understandable, but we want a national team that will be world beaters, year in year out. If Siasia cannot take us to 2014, then I really see no reason why he should come after then. How are we sure he will have what it takes at that time? As you know proficiency on a job comes with time. I believe he will improve more on the job than outside it.

But those players are a major problem as well. They played the match without hunger, desire or passion. Mikel said that not qualifying on Nations Cup will help him focus more on Chelsea. He rightly has a desire to keep his place in Chelsea, but not the same desire to keep his place in SE, because he feels that "coach come, coach go na we be Super Eagles". With these set of players, the chances for 2014 is zero. But if Siasia remains, chances are that he will scout and discover new players to replace these "passionless" players. If a new coach comes, Mikel and Osaze will still top the list of those invited, and we are back to where we started of players playing without hunger, passion or desire and absolutely no regard for fan support. They will then open their mouth to tell use they are patriotic, which is why they respond when called upon. But we know patriotism is measured by the effort you put in to serve the nation, not just your presence when called.

TeellThemm: 2011-10-18 12:40

@Kolawole1
The fear of unknown is very bad. So as we are approaching the 2013 qualifier by January, it is a wise thing to sack Siasia and bring someone else and when that person lose one friendly match, then we will call for his sack again. How do you build a team?. There is no victory without sacrifice. Nigeria must learn to be patient when things ain't going they way. Ask your self why have we never had another team after Westerhof and Bonfere left. The Foundation of current Ghanaian team was build after they fail to qualify for the 2004 nation cup, the team was build between late 2003 to 2006 and the team has been adding players to it base on it foundation. The Cameroonian team that defeated us at the nation cup 2000 was build between the period of 2yrs. I guess you know how long it take the Egyptians to build the team that went on wining the nation cup for three time in a row. My point is that national teams are not club side and one can't have a national team with eight matches. If Siasia is sacked, we will not be able to know what he is trying to give to Nigerian and if every coach we hire is sacked after eight matches in-charge, loosing only one friendly match then I wonder how we ever gonna get at team.

Segun: 2011-10-18 12:44

Someone said in this Siasia debacle that if we must move forward, we have to know what we want. It seems we do not know what we want. What is the noise about Osaze not playing the Ghana game and scoring this past weekend. Have a lot of ****ysts not castigated Siasia for even fielding him for 60 minutes against Guinea? Players will only respect the coaches if the fans provide the room for that. The case of a coach disciplining a player for wrong act and fans/journalists lining behind the player on twitter is just undermining the coach's authority. This same fan/journalists will not shout on top of their voice when the player(s) turn(s) on them.

I have always said it, before the NFF chief got to the glass house, they were fans like us. If the NFF is bad, the fan base has a problem. If not, I cannot imagine the recommendation of Rajevac to take over the SE coaching assignment. Rajevac is defensive minded. That is not the present pattern of play of the SE. This means that there will be a change of tactic in a team that is not yet stable before the start of the qualifying series in January. Have we asked whether the present players can thrive under that pattern? Where are the defenders and midfielders that will make the SE thrive in a defensive set-up. Is that what we want for the team? To instill a defensive type of game into a set of players whose average age is 24? When Rajevac was in Ghana, he stays mostly in Serbia. Can this work in Nigeria where the team needs a major operation? The decision the NFF takes now will determine how long we will be in the wilderness.

Benito: 2011-10-18 12:47

@Kolawole1 i distinguished you among many. You are absolutely spot on in the sense that our local league have been overlooked. It is a massive problem. You can generate players to conquer africa or the entire world by relying on players from abroad. Take a look at Egypt. They won the nations cup with their locally grown team. Even when you have the likes of Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, who paraded foreign based players yet Egypt conquered them with a well drilled and locally natured team. The Nigerian set of players that won the nations cup in 1994 were all freshly from the local league transfered to europe for exposure by westerhoff. All of them tasted the local league well. They were fully aware of what it takes to play african football not like what we have today. A season and off they go.
Give Siasia time to rebuild a team that died in 1998. All we have after then was coaches who all they care about is qualify and keep your job. For the first time we have a coach who is not afraid to build a team. Look at what he has done within a short spell, today we have a team that can atleast move the ball quick and create chances. Nigerians have this attitude of cover up. We never want to build anything. All we want is quick fix. We want to drive the best cars, use the best and fasted internet broad band, use the latest mobile phone etc but we have never at anytime think about building one. We have crude but we cant seem to have a refinery. We have all manner of natural resources including man resources but all we do is get a finished one abroad.
When will we stop deceiving ourselves? Nigeria is yet a fool as long as all we do is live by what other people provides. It is never a crime to build a team. It is painful not going to the nations cup but that is the only wake up call that nigerians need.
Nigeria is powered by other nations in everything. We want electricity but it has to be done by a foreign company. We have ministers of technology, ministers of all sorts but all they do is carry about files. What have any of these minister produced?
We are a talking nation. Loud mouths and that is what i see here in this forume. People that are carried away only by emotions. You all were crying give us Siasia a season ago, today it is crucify him for not qualifying. Not qualifying has suddenly taken over your reasoning. What did you see in the man when you first cried out for him to be employed? If you had a reason then, let that same reason be your driving judgement.
It take a process to achieve lasting success and that is what Nigerians lack.
If Nigeria will stop the importation of everything and look within for ten years, we will become the greatest nation in the world. We have everything but lack the will and strenght to endure due process.
Let Siasia continue his job. Judge him only after the next nations cup. I am not a fan of him but someone who is concern with the way Nigeria is going. A giant in a matchbox. Wake up Nigerians, giants are known for something remarkable not size.

Kolawole1: 2011-10-18 13:05

Elite national teams set a standard for themselves. An irreducible minimum that they shouldn't fall below. it's called quality control! It's the reason why Argentina fired Maradonna and Baptista. It's the reason why Menezes job in Brazil is under threat. It's why Capello would have been fired had England failed to reach Euro 2013.
For Nigeria, I think the irreducible minimum should be qualifying for AFCON. Irrespecuve of wether we are rebuilding or not.
Siasia goofed.

Mr Ifreke Inyang, are you sure you met Kanu or you're just trying to make your uncensored news stories relevant after yesterdays show of shame in your article .Let me borrow your colloquial language, don't get it twisted.

igiiwe1: 2011-10-18 13:29

@kolawole1..This will be my second time of commenting on this site since 2006. ill like to reply to ur comment as a football scout in europe,****yst and FIFA badge player agent.

Honestly speaking u have no idea what is going on within the SE camp and for u to call for siasia to be sack is not surprising based on the fact of sentiments and anger but it seems u do not see the bigger picture(my own humble opinion).

To start with only two of the guinean players is home based(1.Ibrahima Sory Bangoura,Djoliba AC...2...Ousmane Barry..Horoya Athlétique Club) and the rest play in europe(3 in turkey,7 in france,1 in slovakia,3 in belgium, 1 in romania,1 in mali,2 in tunisia,2 in Italy,1 in czech,2 in germany and 2 in switzerland ),so saying that non of thses players have the status of yobo or mikel is out of the equation so the difference btw them and our players are determination and national interest. In ethiopia where the SE got a draw, did u see the pitch or what the weather was?(i was there in the stadium ).I am talking based on FACTS,though i expect that u shuold dispute this(its a free world and i always welcome constructive critism). As someone stated before, chukwu, amodu, eguavon and all others used the remenants of westerhof boys and that was why they were able to get that far but how many of them won the nation's cup? The answer is as good as mine. in 1986 when Nigeria didnt qualify for the nations cup,we went back to the drawing board and came back forcefully in moroc 88 only to be robbed in the final against cameroon so u can see what continuity did to the team within 2 years. i had the opportuinity to sit one on one with siasia and i must tell u with all honesty, that he is a very good coach (his disciplinary way might be a little harsh but given the situation on ground,he has to do that cos the players are soo indiscipline and u cant imagine what he has to put up with on many occassions)but Rome was not built in a day.

U said he should'nt have taken the job when he knows he could qualify for the ACN but i must say that if he didnt,u Nigerians will still be the ones who says he is arrogant but as the situation is for now,we all have to go through the pain of starting again because qualification for ACN is no country's birth right of one former NFF chairman said its our birth right(ask france, england). And please dont forget that it was'nt siasia who missed those begin chances by the strikers (we all knows who)

As for mikel, he is a good player but u do not expect him to player attacking midfield in the national team while he had being playing defensive midfield for over 4yrs in chelsea.

My point is simple,if the NFF hire a foreign coach now, just forget 2013 ACN and if they chose to bring back keshi, well u shud expect to see yakubu (who is more or less not a national team player cos i wonder idf messi ever called for maradona's sack)back in the SE.

I REMAIN A MYSTERY....................EVEN TO MYSELF

Shijo: 2011-10-18 13:29

@Kolawole, that's the problem: Nigeria is no longer an "elite national team". That was in the 90s. Nigeria needs to get back to that "elite national team" status. Qualifying for a major tournament like AFCON may maintain a certain status, but for the SE its actually a mirage. ****nal said ****nal is a top team because it has been qualifying for Champions League for the past 14 seasons. But that is a mirage as to the "elite status" of ****nal. "Elite status" is when you win things, not just qualifying for tournaments.

With the current players Nigeria is no "elite national team". Somebody will have to pull up his sleeves and get down and dirty to rebuild SE into an "elite national team". Siasia did start well, but this setback shows he is still far from being there yet and that he needs to up his ante. We want a solid, enduring team, that when qualifying for a major tournament, will just not go there and make up the numbers, but to go all the way, and win trophies.

OH!..Papilo we missed you in our national team because right now our SE is lacking the like of Okocha, kanu, aghawonder e.t.c. What we are having now is a bunch of secondary school players lacking skills, football tricks, commitment, with so much money in their minds and a coach they look down on and will never respect. We would have won that Guinea match by 3-2 with penalty had it been u were there..lol yes naw!, Dey 4 brought u dwn in dia 18yrd box..lol. I so much respect your football sense any day. @Kolawole I love your comments. We need a new coach. In my entire life am yet to see where failure is been rewarded ..

I want u all 2do me/Nigerians,one favour..pls,put these ur submission on ur facebook pages,so dat NFF and even d Presidency can see and be convinced dat we need continuity and longtym planning. Can Kolawole beat his chest dat a new coach wld qualify us 2013and2014...d time is too short 4 any new manager 2 tinker wt d present structure in SE. I bliv we wld be takin a bigger risk and preparin 4 a failure if we sack Sia. Hav we not observed hw daring he is? Is 10months,8matches enof 2 judge any coach? All odas agitatin 2take over,do they not bliv in continuity? Instead of supporting him, they want 2 Pull him down.

WE SHOULD STOP POINTING FINGERS TO INDIVIDUALS IN THIS COUNTRY COZ SINCE COLONIAL MASTERS LEFT US FROM AGRICULTURE, SHOOLS, SPORTS AND GOVERNMENT IS A FAILURE. WHAT IS GOING WELL IN MY BELOVED COUNTRY NOW? WE CAN'T HANDLE OUR OUR COUNTRY SUCCESSFULL WITHOUT CONFLICT HERE AND THERE, COZ WE FAILED TO PLAN AND NOTHING GOOD IS COMING OUR WAYS EXPECT NATURAL CRUDE OIL. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN OIL IS WASTE? A COUNTRY WHERE SYSTEM OF EDUCATION IS ZERO NOW. A COUNTRY WHICH PRISES MEDIOCRITRIES RATHER THAN TRUTH. WHY ARE WE DESERTING OUR BELOVED NIGERIA TO DIASPORA? A COUNTRY WHERE THE RICH BECOME RICHER AND THE POOR POORER. WE ALL KNOW THE TRUTH, BUT WHO CAN SAY IT? 150 MILLION IS A NUMBER IN THE MAKING.FOOTBALL IS NOT EXPECTIONAL. WHERE IS OUR SCHOOL SPORTS THIS DAYS? A COUNTRY BLESSED WITH TALENTS WHO CAN'T MANAGE IT. HOPE NIGERIA WILL GOOD SOMEDAY.

@Zion5, coaching the SE is not a reward, it is work! Hard work!! Setbacks will happen, but listen to a quotable quote: "A setback is a set-up for a come-back". Asking Siasia to stay on is not a reward, its asking him to double up his efforts and do the needful. The Afcon failure should act as a "shock therapy" to the SE.

Siasia sign a contract. He knows the terms of contract. He should obey the contract terms. If not, he should be made to obey it. No sentiments. We must set a standard if we mut move forward as a nation. No individual is bigger or more important than the nation.

Birikiti: 2011-10-18 15:29

Let me make my view known from the start, I want Siasia to STAY as Super Eagles Manager!

Sentiment or not, I know that he has failed to qualify us for AFCON, 1st time since 1986. Yes, he had various spats with players (who he claimed tried to control his camp) but if he stays, who will be the better for it? Nigeria of course as he must have learnt a few lessons on "How not to be SE manager"

More importantly, the re-building must start immediately! If Siasia is sacked as been advocated by many, how many of you will vouch (with your jobs on the line) that the NFF will get a good replacement before 6 months? How many?
Chances are, they will move from pillar to post in the name of wide consultations, dilly dally and procrastinate until the 2014 World cup qualifiers are upon us and then they will make a hasty decision which will most definitely lead to disaster.

Ok, so what to do? Let Siasia stay but invite him to come and give his program on the way he intends to qualify for 2014 WC and WIN, yes, WIN 2013 AFCON. You might say that is pressure but if he can't cope with this pressure, he shouldn't be in the saddle.
Also, engage the services of a competent Technical Director (Oliseh comes to mind) and give him the mandate to scour the grassroots for talent and develop a system that will help churn out talents on a continous basis.

All these means less monies for estacodes for board members & officials and more monies pumped into developmental progs.

If the NFF can do this, I bet you, our football will rise once again and money will flow their way in form of sponsorships. Also they would have written their names in gold as those that revived Nigerian soccer!

The only former Eagles player that anybody should liston to is Kanu because he put country first while still playing exceptional football for his club. He has spoken and I hapen to agree with him about moving on. There those who are still crying about not qualifying for 2012 but forgot about 2013. It takes planning for the future for a better future. The problem with us in Africa and Nigeria in particular is we never plan for the future and when it gets here we expect to reap reward for the hard work we never did. A good example we have been independent for over 50 years but still do not know how to sustain constant electricity, government workers dont get paid timely, you have to bribe everybody including college proffesors. All these were not there before independence. Now we are crying about Siasia. The point is that the average Nigerian does a mediocre job, the elected officials seal as much money as they can and dont deliver. If everybody give the best effort than they do now the country will be in better financial shape. SO before you critisize Siasia ask yourself what you have done for the country?.
Finally, Mikel came out and told everybody why he always play poorly for country, he says it affects his club play,it takes him time to adjust when he gets back. He is happy Nigeria did not qualify so now hw can concentrate on his club. It begs the question why would any reasonable coach ever invite him to play for the country? Why do all these foregn based players score for their club but cant score for country? They play against better players in their club and score but cant duplicate that on national team.
In conclusion, Siasia needs to be the coach until he fails to qualify the country for 2013. So please all the fools at NFF stop the nonsense and let the man do his job.

Am back here once again,i have said in my last comment's that Nigeria soccer or football problem is beyond the S/E,the major problem is NFF who govern the football in this country, how on earth someone in right thinking will put the blame of match against Guinea or not qualify on Siasia????is Siasia is the one asked players once they face goalkeeper not to score?atleast we created nothing less than 8 clear chances of which 2 hit the bar in first 45 min,if those chances atleast 2 have put behind the net in first 45 min then we will be talking something diff by now, a good coach don't become bad coach over night.

Away from that i watched Enyimba played as fan of Enyimba fc, i will say am highly disappointed in what i seen,if that is the best our best team in the land can offer then am sorry for Nigeria football,is not because they lost but this team did not create single chance through the 95 minutes, instead all the ball was kick up and run for team that need to score atleast 1 goal, its so clearly now that Nigeria football is suffering from bad management, from what i watched today no single player can make it to any national team(Amodu once said no good players in Nigeria league)though Siasia prove him wrong with likes of Ehiogu nad Goriola but the fact still remain there is talent in this country but our problem is bad adminstration,i can only share the view of soccerwisdom, what did so call Chris green and co did or doing for Nigeria football ,are they not suppose to inform coach on that match day that they qualify with 2-1?instead they are blaming their on job on someone else, may God help us in this country.

Siasia is the best thing happening in Nigeria football now(if you like hang your self with transformer) the truth must be told even NFF know this for sure, assuming they asked him to go who do you think will step in?local coaches that none of them boast of CAF licence grade A or Keshi?omg Keshi, that will be end of NIgeria football as far as Eagles is concern,a man that can not make use of big stars team like Mali will now turn average NIgeria team to world champion over night?why we don't have patience in this country, this first time we have the man that is working by building new national team that we are all will be proud of even my friends in Ghana told me you guys will make biggest mistake of sack Siasia,no foreign coach wil want to take S/E job now that all you do is keep sack coaches everytime for no good reason, what is the point of going to Nation cup and disgrace our selves because this team never ready for competition we are just few months building new team ,all good coaches in the world all agreed that it will take atleast 2 good years to build good team, this not club where you can use money to buy players that you need to get result over night.

What make us think if we get another coach ,he will not have problems with this new players in S/E?80% of these boys are Siasia boys that seem him as their God? since they are still very young am sure no coach will coming now and get new players he have to start with them and they will make him fail, its simple as that and that will take us another 4years backward.

Sunshine FC failed,Enyimba fc failed,Super falcons almost fail, even in Africa they use to dominate,U23 to all african games failed(not qualify)U-17 failed to qualify ,S/E not qualify is all these is Siasia problems?i need answer to that.

Yes is painful we did not qualify but if we look at it at long the best idea is to let him countinue his job, beside from voting i check here almost 70% Nigerians are saying they want him countinue so who are you Mr Green or Yellow to say otherwise,we are in democratic goverment now not military by treating someone,i know you guys at NFF are disappointed because no money to make to your personal pocket all the name of travel to Nation' cup likewise some big fools journalist that thinking about their personal interest than country interest at heart.

Another qualification will start next jan, just 2 months away,2 months away and here we are still talking of sack and bring interim in this modern day of football, interim, and if interim fail of which i know then coming back to Siasia again or looking for white coach to make money from him and that will fail at main tournament and sack him again,i can remember the last foreign coach told us to stick with Nigeria coach,Siasia is grown up with these boys now and they are playing well, like i use to say a rome is not built in a day and it took over 5yrs for sir Alex Ferguson to stamp his autority and win anything with Man U,today is regarded as the best if not first then second in the world,i remember Jose Mourihno once said no perfect coach in the world,if you think Siasia tactics against Guinea cost match ,mind you it can happen with any coach nothing is perfect,i have see Mourihno make mistakes several times in Chelsea fc even Sir Alex Ferguson in last match with Mourihno, what these people do is to correct their mistake in other matches,no perfect man for any work.

This might be my last comment on Nigeria football cause if we sack Siasia we are heading to doom, meaning the worst that Nigeria football will witness quote my words
My point

Let Siasia countinue his job,a voice of the people is voice of God,we should forget about personal interest,
If we get foreign coach, can we also get foreign personnel for our glass house??
Nigeria soccer need some thinking young men in that glass house, someone like Kojo Williams.
How many matches is Siasia handle and how many lost ,the way we are being playing before has totally transformed from having our breath in our mouth now we can watch our new with relaxation mood, you can't win all the time beside we are not better than Guinea team we play individually
Our team should take back to lagos to be playing home matches,if we have play that match in Lagos,Abuja is no man land, unlike Lagos.
We should learn how to be patient ,even Westerhof took 5 years to give us team that served us 10years or more, even though Nigeria jounalist said his not a good coach and proved them wrong at end of the day because of direct access to the presidency not NFA then.

A word is enough for the wise.

Buchi: 2011-10-18 15:51

We all love Siasia. But in football, result is key not love. All this media gang up to save his job may not work. He has failed period. We clamoured for him as our best coach...not true because he has failed to do what the man we all hated did. Siasia, do the honourable thing. if not, NFF should sack him.

Socerates: 2011-10-18 15:59

Anybody that is calling 4 the sack of sia 1 has a very myopic way of thinking. Somepeople are only interested in featuring at the CON 2012, then maybe exit in knockout stage and then crucify sia 1. He is trying to build a formidable team that could even be world beaters for at least a decade and some of u are here opening ur brown teeth to rain insults o him. S.h.i.t.t.t. I even hear some people mentioning Amodu and all I did was to sit and wonder if this forum is some sort of dejavu!. It took countries like Ghana, Egypt, Cameroun, and Senegal , and even 9ja ( during the time of westerhof) a couple of years b4 their football started picking up. Yet u guys want sia 1 to pay for Amodu's and Eguavoen's f.u.c.k. Ups. Make them go sack siasia now na them sabi. I no go surprise say we no qualify 4 the forth coming events after this 2012 nation's cup

3kinG: 2011-10-18 16:56

A number of top Nigerian players would have missed out on the 2012 Nations Cup finals had the Super Eagles qualified, according to an Mtnfootball.com report.
Siasia was said to be prepared to wield the big stick after the Guinea game as the top players, including Chelsea star Mikel Obi, were thought to be liabilities to the team.
"Siasia was finally convinced by his assistants that Mikel and some other top stars will not be part of the squad had Nigeria qualified for the Nations Cup," a team source told the website.
"It was discovered these top pros were making elementary tactical mistakes unaccepted for players of their standing and experience. For instance, they did not know what to do when they do not have the ball.
"But far more serious was that these players have shown they are not committed to the team.
"It was therefore unanimously agreed that these players will not be picked for the Nations Cup, rather younger and hungrier players would make the squad."
Siasia had a string of altercations with top players as he strived for control of the team. His first public spat was with West Brom star Osaze Odemwingie, followed by first choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Mikel.

Reports in Nigeria claim that Siasia told the NFF technical committee last week that starting Mikel and Odemwingie against Guinea was a mistake. While Osaze missed a host of chances to put the game to bed, Mikel tired too easily and was defensively poor.
Nigeria needed to win the game to qualify for Nations Cup, but ended up with a 2:2 draw.
The coach also lamented the team's loss in Conakry last year under Augustine Eguavoen claiming it affected the team's chances, but a committee member had retorted that Siasia should not have taken the job if he felt the team would not qualify for Gabon-Equatorial Guinea.

Basil: 2011-10-18 16:59

As long Nigeria keeps using Mikel Obi, they will never make any impact in Fottball, Siasia or who ever takes over must forget Mikel Obi

Basil: 2011-10-18 17:19

The problem is not is not Siasia or Osaze, the problem with the senior national team is Mikel Obi. NFF please keep Siasia, no Nigerian Coach (Clemens and Bonfre exempted) that i know can do better than Siasia, give him more time, he is good. He is rebiulding and it times to rebiuld, the likes of Mikel Obi, Yakubu Aiyegbeni wants to frustrate him, but Alas God is with Siasia, he is our chosen and so God's chosen, NFF just give him another chance i assure you he will deliver.

Weep not my people,i felt bad after the result but what makes a man is the ability consider and reconsider... i asked myself this question, did Siasia actually failed? No,he didnt fail but it was osaze that,he didnt fail it was Dele that failed who couldnt grab the chance provided for him by Enyeama. Let me tell you why Siasia's seat is hot, because he is doing what most of us know is the truth though we find it difficult to accept. The team is bad but who has the courage to improve it,so far its only siasia... Goodluck Jonathan after his swearing still picked the same ministers we all know they performed woefully,is it moving forward? No. If the game must move forwrd in this country, siasia is on the right tract,in my subsequent post here,i will convince all of you.

Complete sports many Nigerians are not calling for siasia's sack, infact we want him to remain as coach of the Super Eagles,

Thank God for electronic newspapers and the comment column if not you guys will be feeding us Junk , we are checking the power of Journalists who can be sponsored to pull down someone.

Maybe complete sports reporters are trying to please theior editors who find nothing good in Siaone, but unfortunately all the technical people they are interviewing want Siaone to stay, Name then Keshi, Owuobokiri they want siaone to continue.

Apart from complete sports check all other papers where this is mentioned from day one it was 50:50, then 60:40, 0:30 now it is about 80:20 and sometime 90:10 in favour of Siaone continuing.

In fact those that keep saying Siaone must go are the same people posting in all column and sending repeat message, but fresh people keep entering the fray as supporters of siasia

On the day of the match because they saw the spontaneous anger of the fans many dignitaries and assembly men were saying what an insult the coach is that the coach is this Now they are seeing our submissions on these they are all gradually turning around and saying it was personal opinion.

conversejoel: 2011-10-18 19:24

Teellthem,

You never said anything about keeping one coach when Amodu was sacked.KOLAWOLE1 is making sense and i appreciate his honesty. Siasia failed and he should be fired. Another person should have his chance to tinker the team. He failed in:

1. U 20 world cup of 2009
2. Heartland
3. JUTH- Their performance under him led to their relegation
5. Home based eagles- Togo beat us with their home based in Abeokuta and the NFF still looked the other way! That was the writing on the wall right there.
6. Finally, Failure to qualify for the CAF cup which is an abomination

What more are we waiting for to happen before we fire him? Fail to qualify for 2013 and the WC?

Siasia should understand that keeping boys in camp to go for a competition is different from assembling boys in a week and playing crucial qualifiers. This is not his forte...., he has time to develop, but his time with the SE is not now. Thats why, if we want to be fair and look at results, records and achievements, Amodu remains the best coach Nigeria has ever produced. Period.

@daddy Pato, when a man can successfully list failures, know that such an one is used to failing in his life.

It is so easy to point out the fault of others. Even a blind man can excel at it. What makes a man intelligent is his ability to discern
greatness in others.

Those who compare failure with success, because of the pain that naturally accompany the process of attaining success, will always advocate the easy way out.

The joy of success comes from the pain you get from attaining it. Missing out on AFCON 2012 is the pain that will make Siasia's efforts at building a solid Eagles worth the while.

SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE HAVE MASTERED FAILURE TO THE POINT THAT THEY COUNT FAILURE AS A STEPPING STONE TO ATTAINING GREATER HEIGHTS. I BELIEVE IN SAMSON SIASIA, WITH OR WITHOUT AFCON QUALIFICATION.

Ikhana throws poser to NFF over Siasia

Ikhana throws poser to NFF over Siasia

Former African Coach of the Year, Kadiri Ikhana, has thrown a poser at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the debate on the fate of Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia in the national team.

Ikhana who just announced his retirement from football coaching, said he would not be drawn into the debate on whether the coach should be sacked or not.

He wondered over the much ado about Siasia after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the Nations Cup, saying if somebody who qualified the team to a Nations Cup bronze and a World Cup ticket could be sacked, then he was waiting for the decision of the NFF on Siasia.

“I’m not saying he should be sacked as the Super Eagles’ coach. But in taking a decision on Siasia, the NFF should have Amodu Shaibu in mind. If Amodu could be sacked because he didn’t win the Nations Cup, then what do we do to the one who failed to qualify the team? He should be killed?” he asked rhetorically.

The former Kwara United gaffer said there should be no argument if we were to be fair in our judgment in the current situation.

This is the reason Ken Gadaffi called for him to be appointed SE coach.

ABUJA SWAN ENDORSE SIASIA FOR SECOND CHANCE

Posted: Oct 18, 2011

Samson Siasia has received the all clear by the SWAN Abuja to be enthrusted with the Super Eagles coaching job ahead the 2013 Nations Cup qualifiers despite the inability of the national team to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations following a 2-2 draw with Guinea on October 8 in Abuja.

Rising from their exhaustive emergency meeting in Abuja on Monday, the sports writers warned on the dangers of relieving Siasia of his national duties as a result of Nigeria's failure to qualify for the 2012 nations Cup.

"The Congress of FCT SWAN endorses the retention of Coach Samson Siasia as sacking him will be retrogressive in view of the fact that the Super Eagles is undergoing rebuilding process at present",the congress warned.

While admitting that the failure of the Super Eagles was a collective one on the part of the players, coaches,NFF and even the sports journalists,SWANpointed out that the national team players need proper orientation, commitment and dedication to national assignment.

SWAN reiteratted the urgent need for the NFF to employ a technically sound Technical Director and to set up a technical Department which will be composed of technically competent people with proven track record of successes as players/coaches.

READ THIS!

A communique issued at the end of the emergency congress and signed by it's chairman,Victor Iroele declared that the current technical committee of the NFF lacked the technical savvy to provide the needed support to the Super Eagles coaches.

Amata Plus: 2011-10-18 20:57

THUMBS UP ABUJA SWAN! Way to go. Unlike Lagos SWAN wey Osaze dey bribe, they are thinking Nigeria. Think Nigeria, people. Think Nigeria.

Imagine Ikhana asking NFF to use Amodu as yard stick in deciding Siasia's fate! Blind desperation leads to awkward reasoning.

IF YOU THINK NIGERIA, YOU WILL ADVOCATE CONTINUITY FOR SIASIA.

@West
You forgot to mention the tribe that has contributed most to the growth of Nigeria in every field both home and abroad even the State you claim to be living at. Nkatta Offor is only complaining about the fail state of Nigeria both at Home and Ghana where he reside. I do not know how you get to the state but I don't know if you have been in a situation when after a civil war in a country, the other tribe gang up against the other and systematically deprive them their right. Why won't the Igbo man fight to survive or hustle like you have put it when the country which he has sacrifice for denied him his right to succeed. This same people that has been in every achievement that so called Nigeria has achieve in any filed, called it sports,Academic excellence, scientific research. It is out side of Nigeria that people celebrated Chinua Achebe 50yrs of things fall apart while his own country dint even know that it is 50yrs of it. Tell why people like Philip Emeagwali is out there making waves and never venture into Nigeria. Any Igbo man has the right to be grieve in that Nigeria nation, they have given so much yet little appreciated. Go to place like Nnewi,Onitsha, Aba and see how people are trying to create sometime individually yet the Government which is suppose to support them are the one killing them with policies of hate. On the matter at hand, If siasia is sacked, I will only laugh at the mentality of those people at the NFF, who continuously kill our football, yet they felt it is their birth right to be there and when someone mention about those who administration has brought us success, it became racist. Let administration be given to those who has proven it, Like Felix Anyansi Agwu, People like Fashola who is doing well in Lagos state. We Nigerian should stand up and speak with out fear or favor on those which we have seen succeed in their field and support them to lead us not supporting people because they are our man. Let support those who has proven it and it doesn't matter if those are of one tribe as long as they have proven to be a success in their various field.

FreedomXpress: 2011-10-18 21:14

Siasia cannot build a team, becuase I don't understand this building of a thing. He was hired to assemble and to use the materials (many) available to him to qualify and eventually win the AFCON 2012 and he failed in style. Nigeria is not like Somalia that one need to start building from the scratch, no functioning nation has done that. You only build from an existing structure and has basically been our soccer history and that of many countries around the world. So this nonsense that Siasia was hired to go to every home, village and towns in Nigeria and build a team for us is completely stupid and foolish assumption which his contract does not stipulate, and which he NEVER did or was expected to do, and therefore has failed woefully and miserably. SIASIA HAS LOST THE MORAL AUTHORITY TO LEAD, BESIDE THE FACT THAT WE HAD BETTER QUALIFIED NIGERIAN COACH IN THE PERSON OF STEPHEN KESHI WHO DESERVE OUR SERVICE AND WHO WILL NEED OUR 100% COMPLETE SUPPORT TO CHAMPION OUR CAUSE. WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN FAILURES, AND THEREFORE WILL NOT CELEBRATE FAILURE. THE ONLY BUSINESS NFF HAVE WITH SIASIA RIGHT NOW IS TO DEMAND REFUND FROM SIASIA. WE REJECT APOLOGY WITHOUT CASH REFUND FROM SIASIA.

Papillo thanks 4 ur advise but hw can we focus on 2013 when dere re issues on ground?
Left 4 me, Siasia, Keshi, Eguavoen, Oliseh dnt ve what it takes 2 coach our national team. Nff pls spend money hire a very sound technical/tactical coach 2 work alongside dese ex-players so dey can learn. I can't remember dese ex-players working under a very sound coach even in their club sides so I dnt c where d technicality of coaching our national team ll come from? Its nt abt just passing ur coaching badge exams! Our players r average at best in their clubsides n so wld only improve under a very sound technical/tactical coach.

Jboc: 2011-10-18 23:49

Least I 4get, unfortunately Mikel is d only creative midfielder we ve at d moment now. People mentioned Rabiu Ibrahim n I laughed cos dis same guy can't even get palying time in PSV. Lukman Haruna is miles away frm Mikel in terms of ability to hold on to d ball and thread long range passes. Mikel might b slow but he stands tall amongst dese names people keep saying. Dnt 4get, he's wrked under 4-5 quality tested grade A coaches in Chelsea n yet he still gets playing time. It only shows dere is somethin abt dis guy dey c in him n our "coaches" dnt!

Zion5: 2011-10-19 00:13

I cant believe that some people are blaming Osaze, Mikel, etc for the failure of SE to qualify for ANC. I really want to know, did this players invited themselves to camp or are there no other better players left for the coach to chose from in the whole Nig/world???
Since when has players start dictating the mode of game for a coach?
Please NFF save us from this disgrace(the whole world is watching) sack this man and give us a better coach Keshi.. even Amodu will be ok for our dear SE...

son_of_light: 2011-10-19 05:51

I have come to realize that the problem of Nigeria, is Nigerians. They never learn lessons @ all. Even when its so glaring in front of them, because they are impulsive decision makers. My question is how long will this circle continue? I feel there is more to this than just sacking of coaches every year. Please stop calling of names. Now they are saying Keshi, the way they said Siasia, well think wisely.

Knowledge: 2011-10-19 08:39

Siasia should respect the contract terms and do what a professional coach would do under this circumstance by resigning honorably. It is absurd that he now resort to employing the media and fans to plead for him to stay on...But that would be....Postponing the doomsday because Saisia and his technical crew has nothing more technically to offer

omooba: 2011-10-19 11:00

What is Siasia still waiting for?. If, I were to be Siasia, I would have resigned the very day (08/10/2011) that his team failed to qualify for nations cup that have been our birth right for the past 25yrs. It is only during the era of Siasia that Nigeria failed to qualify for nations and that will go down in Nigeria history. Siasia Go, Siasia Go, Siasia Go, you have outlive your usefulness. Pls. Go.

kolawole indeed you know what the problems are and you are sbsolutely correct for saying that siasia should be sacked because a coach should be known for results.

@TeellThemm
Where is the team Siasia built that you are clamoring 4?. You fan are at it again and at the end you will blame the NFF. Stop supporting Siasia blindly or you keep hindering the progress of our football. It is not a matter of being a good Coach or not alone, but we need someone who will bring together this boys because we did not qualify simply because of the disunity in the team. If the Coach is having problem with players like Mikel, Osaze, Enyama, Etuhu and for the reason best know to himself can not call up Martins, i wonder what he was expecting to get as result. Our World Cup qualification is at stake if Siasia remain at the helm.

Mickuch: 2011-10-19 13:28

Our nt qualifyn 4 d afcon is dwn 2 bad luck.siasia is doin gr8 in puttin faith in youth we r no longa seein faces lyk yakubu, kaita hu av chngd 6 clubs witin 2yr'z olofinjana's,oruma n sorts of uzles player's nw we can boast of team dt if givin tym 2 gel wil cause problem in africa n mite break d deadlock of 1st african nation 2 b in world cup semi final,nw we av joel obi 21,mikel 24,ideye 22,c okonkwo 22,echiejile 23,ogude 22,ambrose 24 wit xprience lyk enyema 29,taiwo 26,yobo 30,ik uche 26 our future is bright lets support sia1

EKPE: 2011-10-19 19:55

From the start, I never supported Siasia ahead of Keshi or Oliseh. Our problem is that most people who claim to know better in football are simply lousy and very incorrect. There's no way in this world that Siasia, could have qualified a team like Togo for the world, just as Keshi did. If Siasia was that of a good coach as his followers claim, then how could we have falling for the second time to the same squad, at the Olympics, after losing to them in the U21 WC? He's only arrogant and thinks that he's everything. Now, ask yourself this; what on Earth made him to bench Ike Uche, sidelining Enyeama in such a crucial match and removing Joel Obi for Ehiosun? And when Ike Uche entered what happened? A coach, who only chooses his own boys and no matter how bad that one is playing is not a good coach. Efe Ambrose has been a mess and even after committing the blunders in Ethiopia, he still plays him.

If NFF should retain him, then I will surely know that even we football fans and other Nigerians, are not willing or ready to grow. He, Siasia, should be sacked, no sentiments should be applied. A coach is judged by his results.

EKPE: 2011-10-19 20:12

If years were to be months, months weeks and weeks a day, I would have suggested that we grant these Siasia supporters their wish of leaving him to continue. But we want growth, so we can't gamble on that. I'm very sure that if Siasia, is allowed to be there, Nigeria, will NEVER qualify for world cup.

Sack Siasia now and get another local coach and I bet u anything: NIGERIA FOOTBALL WOULD GO BACKKKKK 15more years!!!!

Siasia is the man for this job. Give him your support. If we want him out then go get a proven European or South American coach.
