Orlando Pirates coach Julio Leal is hoping to sign more players to boost his side ahead of the CAF Champions League.
With 34 players already registered with the PSL, the Soweto-based side are among the teams with the largest pools of players.
Bucs spokesperson Mickey Modisane tells KickOff.com that Leal has been strategically roping in more players with international experience ahead of the preliminary round of the continental competition, which begins soon after the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
So far, Leal has signed fellow Brazilian Getulio Vargas, Boubacor Talatou from Niger and Tokelo Rantie.
Vargas – who has featured for Portuguese side Victoria Setubal – has had stints in the Brazilian and Belgian top-flight, while Talatou has featured for Gabonese outfit Mangasport and is also a key member of the Niger national team.
Rantie, on the other hand, has played in Sweden for IFK Hasselholm and in Mozambique for Ferraviaro de Beira and Clube Desporto de Maxaquene.
"The players that we are bringing on board have considerable international experience and this will help us when we compete in the Champions League next year," Modisane says.
"The draw [for the Champions League] will be held before the end of the year, so we have already started preparing for the competition.
"There is a high possibility that the coach will request more players when the transfer window reopens in January. A large squad is good as it helps the club cope better with injuries," Modisane adds.
Leal hopes that future signings will complement the international experience of players such as Benni McCarthy, Isaac Chansa, Andile Jali and Moeneeb Josephs, to power the Bucs to the continental success they enjoyed in 1995, when they became the first team from Southern Africa to win the African Champions League.
