Enyimba out of Champions League

Posted: 2011-10-16 18:15

Enyimba huffed and puffed but failed to blow away the sturdy defensive brickwork of Wydad Casablanca as they bowed out of the CAF Champions League.

The People's Elephants ended the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final tie 0-0 at home to the Moroccans, to exit the competition 0-1 on aggregate and complete a miserable week for Nigerian football.

The disappointment follows on the heels of Nigeria's failure to qualify for next year's Africa Cup of Nations, and Sunshine Stars' home defeat in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.

A 1-0 first leg defeat, their first of the competition, meant Enyimba needed to at least match that score to take the game to extra-time and penalties, but the Nigerians looked well short of their best.

They struggled to deal with the disciplined defending of Wydad, and grew increasingly frustrated by the gamesmanship of the Moroccans.

Matters might have proved even worse when Wydad rattled the angle of the post from distance midway through the first half, but that was the best chance either side managed in the game.

And as time wound down, Enyimba never looked like finding the intelligence or quality needed to crack the defensive resolve of their opponents.

Critics of Siasia before I hear say na him cause this failure. Giant of Nothing. Instaed of we Nigerians to sit down and admit that we are no longer super again, we will be arrogantly ask for the head of our coach at the slightest failure. No wonder we are not growing. SMH

Judge-Not: 2011-10-16 19:29

Enyimba is a big flop. The way they played in Morocco cost them the championship. Resorting to a needless defensive play instead of their usual way of playing was absurdity. To be a champion, you fear no foe. Just like the Esp. of Tunisia, they beat the Sundanese giant both ways. That's what make a champion.

Judge-Not: 2011-10-16 19:42

@Profy: Yes, Nigeria has a big problem all the way from the grassroots. All the same, I still hold Siasia responsible for SE's failure last week. He made some serious selection and tactical errors that cost us the match. I still insist that leaving out our No. 1 goal-keeper was the mother of all blunders by Siasia stemming from his not being forgiving even after apology was tendered. I do like it when people exonerate someone who is clearly to blame. It's the coach responsibility to read a match and make changes that would result in a win. That's what the coach is being paid to do. The coach who fights with his players all the time is bound to fail. Sacking Siasia may not be the way out, but if he is sacked, I will not lose any sleep over it. One must forgive to be forgiven!

@omooba, Thanks and God will bless you, I don't know what NFF still waiting for, they suppose to Sack Siasia Immediately and Appoint another Coach

The slide continues. With injustice, hate, bitterness, et al characterising our football, it can only get worse.

The way out is to do the right things. NFF should cease from their evil ways. For us the fans, halt the hatred and bitterness towards Siasia.

i don't know why ppl r still talking about siasia issue, this is not time for nigerians talking about a coach who has not done anything bad
it's time for us to see where our problem lies
the same guy who is taking siasia issue so personal should take his time or else he will meet his own down fall, bcos from the way Lappy is sounding shows that he has been wishing sia1 down fall in his tenure as our head coach, let all Nigeria go on there knee's and ask God for mercy, bcos i know somebody has sin against God, so we have to clean up our house and make some good thinking before we act
for Lappy keeping on saying Nff should sack siasia is uncall for bcos he too is just like a failure so he should keep his mouth short
any way let's ask Lappy how thing r runs in nff, i think he knows better than every other nigeria, if he give us a reasonable answer about nnf then siasia should be sack, but if he fails then siasia should stay for good

whether siasia qualified SE or not, nigeria teams is not wot we should hope on this time, last year heartland came here to play against al ahly of egypt here in cairo, we all went there to boost there morale but the tried but the can't beat al ahly here, if u know about north african teams too well then u know that nff is killing our football
third division here in egypt is like or premier league, so the little we can offer, we have tried.
i think ocean boys or bayelsa united came here to play against ennpi but wot happen in egypt, so the league is not wot it use to be in those days in nigeria, can we boast of a solid team from nigeria league? no
we should remember the time uche okechukwu and ben iroham these r players playing in our league and holding down a regular shirt in SE
thompson oliha and ajibade babalade, so where r those players now? how can we get such players from our league is the question
last egypt beat the whole african world cup representative and took the cup back home, wit home base players only muhamed zidan is europe base players the had, so wot is mikel and co doing in the pitch wen egypt beat them 3-1, is that siasia again, my ppl lets just help ourselfs and leave siasia alone to run things, bcos for me he has a good plan for our team

Those calling NFF now to fire Siasia are the same people who will call the federal government to disband NFF.We saw what acttually happened last year to Sani Lulu & Co.NFF should know that, next qualifiers start in three months time and there is no coach who can be hired now to perform the miracle under 90 days,Lagerback couldnt do it,then those who called for Amodu's head, turned their madness to NFF.Aminu Maigari,I think thats how you come into the system and if you dont want history to repeat itself, you all should let Siasia to Continue,Let see all he got.

People in the glass house should know that those calling for Siasia head now, might be those who really want to take over the glass house because, they are wise to know that something terrible is going to happen soon if Siasia is fired then Nigeria will turn their madness to the glass house.NFF,be smart or you all will join Siasia soon if Fired, like Sani Lulu and members joined Amodu.Thats My one Cent.

Our football is a metaphor for our nation, So does another blame game start? Until we learn that in sports victory does not come easily, then laurels would remain elusive. Great achievements are always premised upon well articulated and well executed plans. Enyimba must now go back home to begin again. You don't win at all times in sports, and that is not a crime. Up Enyimba. Even in defeat!

RICHARD OWOBOKIRI.

While the Opinion poll continues, how many of you remember Richard Owuobokiri. Same tine we had people like John Chiedozie and Tunji anjo coming around.

He was Nigeria's foremost professional then, he was severally the highest goal scorer in Portugal, i think once he was the highest goal scorer in England.

He became so oyibolised that he didn't really fit into the Super Eagles style, He started from Brazil, the first Nigerian to play professional football in Brazil before Benji Nzeakor ( remember him? the dancing right winger of Iwuanyanwu Nationale - the original Naze millionaires. ( the present day Heartland ).
Rashidi Yekini took over from Owobokiri as goals father in Portugal.

Read his summation in Super Sports interviewed by a Foreign Journalist.

Football | Nigeria
Owubokiri backs Siasia
by Sammy Wejinya 16 October 2011, 11:49

Former Nigeria international, Richard Owubokiri has thrown his weight behind under fire Super Eagles' coach, Samson Siasia.

Siasia’s future as Nigeria manager is in jeopardy following his failure to steer the Super Eagles to a place at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

However, Owubokiri who made 23 appearances for Nigeria between 1982 and 1992 believes easing Siasia out would be a wrong move.

“He should stay. I don’t think the whole thing was his (Siasia’s) fault and until we get Nigerian football organised, we will always be having the same problems,” Owubokiri told SuperSport.com.

The 50-year-old who also played professionally in Brazil, France, Portugal and Qatar also made an attempt to compare the present era of the Super Eagles and his time at the national set up.

“We had great players during my time at the national team with quality (players) everywhere.

“The present bunch is not too bad and I like Mikel (John Obi) very much; he has been doing well,” Owubokiri stated.

The player who enjoyed the highlight of his career between 1991 and 1994 at Portuguese side, Boavista revealed that the city still holds a special place in his heart.

“It (Boavista) will hold a special place in my heart.

“When I scored 30 goals in a single season, I won the golden boot award.

“If I go to restaurants today in Boavista, they don’t let me pay (for the food) and in malls and shops, it’s the same; the people continue to remember what I did for them and that means a lot to me,” he added.

Soccerwisdom: 2011-10-16 21:44

Sorry it was Owuobokiri was highest goal scorer in Europe not England never played in England it was Chiedozie ( the Lifebuoy guy) that played for Notts County in England and Tunji Banjo also.

coache: 2011-10-16 21:55

I watched the last twenty five minutes of the game and really pitied the mediocrity of Nigerian coaches. The coach had no idea nor was he prepared for how the boys would win the match. They kept playing up ***** (old school football), they could not keep the ball on the ground. And the referee did not help matters.

I am not against long ***** but teams must realise that whenever they deploy long *****, it should once a while and even at that, there should be a player that would support the strikers from behind incase the opponents head out the ball and all that... Poor COACHING RUINED ENYIMBA. NFF SHOULD INVITE SEASONED COACHES FROM EUROPE OR SOUTH AMERICA TO SPEND ONE MONTH COACHING OUR COACHES FOR GOODNESS SAKE

Have you seen a judge who passes a judgement before hearing the accused, I pray you never meet such a judge see comments.

Are they really concerned about Nigerian football or they are unhappy that no travel allowance and estacode for Nations cup, No jamboree.

Their comments show that they already have their judgement readu even before hearing the accused, so siasia's report meant nothing to them - Did he get a fair hearing? See their comments after the match ( They should know that Nigerian football's fate is in their hands so do don't act with based on personal emotions ).
= = = =

Chairman of the NFF technical committee, Barrister Chris Green has said that no amount of damage control will deter the committee from taking appropriate decision on the troubled Super Eagles' coach.
The NFF technical committee meets on Thursday in Abuja to take a decision on Siasia.
Still ruing the painful ouster of Nigeria from the AFCON next January, Green told SuperSport.com that only an overriding reason will stop his committee from sacking Siasia.
"No amount of damage control will stop us from doing what is right. We will do what is right, no sentiment at all.
Green said the football house is the more hit by Nigeria's failure to qualify for the biennial football showpiece than any other Nigerian. ( Yes o, lost estacode, we don’t have estacode to loose so we feel you, siaone don comot gari for your mouth).

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba lawal, has called for the termination of Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia's contract following his inability to qualify Nigeria for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations

Lawal, who spoke in an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP SPORTS said: "the team lost, they all failed. The technical crew, the players and coach should take full responsibility because they failed Nigerians. The players did not show enough commitment and zeal. ( Which one be NFF Technocal committee fault – None?)

Nigeria Football Federation technical department chieftain,Dr.
Emmanuel Ikpeme, has put the blame of Super Eagles
Non qualification for the 2012
African Cup of Nations on the laps of
the coach, Samson Siasia and the
players. He said the failure
has not affected the
image of the NFF in any way.
He claimed that even though the NFF
is disappointed that the Eagles did
not qualify for the tournament, the
image of the NFF is not dented and
they have no questions to answer. ( How can you have questions to answer, you are the accuser and the judge at the same time, who will call you to order?)

Amata Plus: 2011-10-16 23:12

NFF are survivalists. Trying to heap the blame on Siasia is their own way of escaping public scrutiny.

Those of you calling for Siasia's sack are the tools they need to survive and keep football in chains.

They depend on public approval for survival and so they will dance to any tune the public plays. Truth is, they are using the fans to remain in office.

Who is Chris Green? NFF's hatchet man! The roof will surely collapse on the NFF. As they sack Siaisia they also seal their fate. MARK MY WORDS!

Hello Forumites, I am back again. Always once in a blue moon to summarize my comment. I was actually waiting for this Enyimba game against Wydad Casablanca before making my comment about the Super Eagles exit from Nations cup.

Its so shameful to see that some forumites are condemning enyimba and its even shocking as well. A part of me wasnt happy because enyimba are knocked out while a part of me was also happy because it proved to us that no team is unbeatable. I was really sad because the same people in this forum that are hailing enyimba as a better team and even suggested that they should have been used to prosecute the Nigeria - Guinea match because they are far better than the super eagles, the same set of people are raining curse on them again after been knocked out.

So because they are knocked out now the tune has changed, they are no longer good again and dont forget they didnt lose any of their match in the qualifying stage. Infact this is the most confused forum I have ever seen in my life where people just open their mouth to talk without thinking and always believe things most always go in the way of their team at all time as if the opposing team are there to watch. We never want to realize that football is growing worldwide and there are no minnows in football again. Are we now going to say Enyimba's failure to move to the next round was as a result of a bad team with incompetent players? Same will be said of Samson Siasia. Are we going to conclude that he is not a good coach because he didnt qualify us for the nations cup then therefore sack him because of it? Do you think success requires a short term preparation? Do we want to go to nations cup just because of history of attendance or what is the point of going to the nations cup again knowing fully well that this present team cant win the cup. Why cant we learn to sacrifice things like this in order to stabilize and come out strong.

Are we ready to go back to square one and start the circle of hire on short term and fire on short term or we should continue the building process with siasia? Dont you think the new coach that will be coming after siasia will also have to start all over again? So why not save ourselves some time forward by continuing with siasia.

The question is who do we even want once we fire siasia? Because if you think someone like Big Boss (Steven Keshi)will not be firmer than Siasia in terms of discipline then we better think twice because it took him lots of time to gel team Togo together before he qualify them for world-cup while he was their coach and his sack was even as a result of his unwillingness to condone indiscipline (the case of Emmanuel Adebayor). I'm just trying to say that any coach even mourinho will also need alot of time to make things happen.

dona: 2011-10-17 07:07

Am back here once again,i have said in my last comment's that Nigeria soccer or football problem is beyond the S/E,the major problem is NFF who govern the football in this country, how on earth someone in right thinking will put the blame of match against Guinea or not qualify on Siasia????is Siasia is the one asked players once they face goalkeeper not to score?atleast we created nothing less than 8 clear chances of which 2 hit the bar in first 45 min,if those chances atleast 2 have put behind the net in first 45 min then we will be talking something diff by now, a good coach don't become bad coach over night.

Away from that i watched Enyimba played as fan of Enyimba fc, i will say am highly disappointed in what i seen,if that is the best our best team in the land can offer then am sorry for Nigeria football,is not because they lost but this team did not create single chance through the 95 minutes, instead all the ball was kick up and run for team that need to score atleast 1 goal, its so clearly now that Nigeria football is suffering from bad management, from what i watched today no single player can make it to any national team(Amodu once said no good players in Nigeria league)though Siasia prove him wrong with likes of Ehiogu nad Goriola but the fact still remain there is talent in this country but our problem is bad adminstration,i can only share the view of soccerwisdom, what did so call Chris green and co did or doing for Nigeria football ,are they not suppose to inform coach on that match day that they qualify with 2-1?instead they are blaming their on job on someone else, may God help us in this country.

Siasia is the best thing happening in Nigeria football now(if you like hang your self with transformer) the truth must be told even NFF know this for sure, assuming they asked him to go who do you think will step in?local coaches that none of them boast of CAF licence grade A or Keshi?omg Keshi, that will be end of NIgeria football as far as Eagles is concern,a man that can not make use of big stars team like Mali will now turn average NIgeria team to world champion over night?why we don't have patience in this country, this first time we have the man that is working by building new national team that we are all will be proud of even my friends in Ghana told me you guys will make biggest mistake of sack Siasia,no foreign coach wil want to take S/E job now that all you do is keep sack coaches everytime for no good reason, what is the point of going to Nation cup and disgrace our selves because this team never ready for competition we are just few months building new team ,all good coaches in the world all agreed that it will take atleast 2 good years to build good team, this not club where you can use money to buy players that you need to get result over night.

What make us think if we get another coach ,he will not have problems with this new players in S/E?80% of these boys are Siasia boys that seem him as their God? since they are still very young am sure no coach will coming now and get new players he have to start with them and they will make him fail, its simple as that and that will take us another 4years backward.

Sunshine FC failed,Enyimba fc failed,Super falcons almost fail, even in Africa they use to dominate,U23 to all african games failed(not qualify)U-17 failed to qualify ,S/E not qualify is all these is Siasia problems?i need answer to that.

Yes is painful we did not qualify but if we look at it at long the best idea is to let him countinue his job, beside from voting i check here almost 70% Nigerians are saying they want him countinue so who are you Mr Green or Yellow to say otherwise,we are in democratic goverment now not military by treating someone,i know you guys at NFF are disappointed because no money to make to your personal pocket all the name of travel to Nation' cup likewise some big fools journalist that thinking about their personal interest than country interest at heart.

Another qualification will start next jan, just 2 months away,2 months away and here we are still talking of sack and bring interim in this modern day of football, interim, and if interim fail of which i know then coming back to Siasia again or looking for white coach to make money from him and that will fail at main tournament and sack him again,i can remember the last foreign coach told us to stick with Nigeria coach,Siasia is grown up with these boys now and they are playing well, like i use to say a rome is not built in a day and it took over 5yrs for sir Alex Ferguson to stamp his autority and win anything with Man U,today is regarded as the best if not first then second in the world,i remember Jose Mourihno once said no perfect coach in the world,if you think Siasia tactics against Guinea cost match ,mind you it can happen with any coach nothing is perfect,i have see Mourihno make mistakes several times in Chelsea fc even Sir Alex Ferguson in last match with Mourihno, what these people do is to correct their mistake in other matches,no perfect man for any work.

This might be my last comment on Nigeria football cause if we sack Siasia we are heading to doom, meaning the worst that Nigeria football will witness quote my words
My point

Let Siasia countinue his job,a voice of the people is voice of God,we should forget about personal interest,
If we get foreign coach, can we also get foreign personnel for our glass house??
Nigeria soccer need some thinking young men in that glass house, someone like Kojo Williams.
How many matches is Siasia handle and how many lost ,the way we are being playing before has totally transformed from having our breath in our mouth now we can watch our new with relaxation mood, you can't win all the time beside we are not better than Guinea team we play individually
Our team should take back to lagos to be playing home matches,if we have play that match in Lagos,Abuja is no man land, unlike Lagos.
We should learn how to be patient ,even Westerhof took 5 years to give us team that served us 10years or more, even though Nigeria jounalist said his not a good coach and proved them wrong at end of the day because of direct access to the presidency not NFA then.

A word is enough for the wise.

In an effort to ensure that Nigeria can at least showcase their talent in football for the year 2012, the NFF should promised the super falcons at least $5,000 each and the dream team $7,000 just to qualify for the 2012 summer olympics.

THANKS YOU FOR YOUR FUTURE WORDS OF ADVISED,( KING KANU- PAPILO THE NIGERIA CONFIRMATION AMBASSADOR ) I AGREE WITH YOU BASE ON YOUR COURAGE WORDS AS A FELLOW NIGERIAN AND SE FANS.

BUT I SINCERELY COME AGAINST ANY INDIRECT WORDS THAT REFIRE TO SIASIA TO RETAINED AS THE SUPER EAGLE COACH. FAR FAR FAR FAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I THINK WE ARE TIRED OF THIS COACHES WHO COME AT FIRST WITH WORDS OF ASSURANCE IN ANY LEVEL. BUT FAIL TO QUALIFY SE TO NATION CUP 2012. WITHOUT NO DISRESPECT, SIASIA DESERVED IMMEDIATE RED CARD AND SACK HIM WITH HIS CO LEAGUE THAT ARE BUNCH OF FAILURE.

TAKE MY WORDS, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT........STEPHEN KESHI AND CREW IS FAR BETTER THAN SIASIA AND HIS COACHING TEAM MATE..........SO I SEE NO REASON WHY (NFA) ARE STILL DELAY/ WAITING FOR ANY CONSIDERATION ON SIASIA MATTER IN SACKING THIS BUNCH OF FAILURE..........

PLEASE NFA DO THE NECESSARY THING BY EMPLOY STEPHAN KESHI OR WHOEVER COULD ABLE TO DO WELL IN BRINGING JOY/GLORY TO NIGERIAN FANS AGAIN......................I SINCERELY WARNED ON THIS NOTE, PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW SIASIA WITH HIS PROMISSORY WORDS BECAUSE HE WILL CONTINUE FAIL ON THIS ASSIGNMENT AND I'M PERSONALLY TIRED OF DEVELOPING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE TOWARDS ALL THIS PREMATURE COACHES CALL SIASIA AND KALIKA.

NOTE;SIASIA AND HIS COACHING TEAM MATE DESERVED TO BE REPLACED IN COACHING ALL THIS ENYINBA CLUB AND SUNSHINE WHO FAIL TO QUALIFY FROM AFRICA CHAMPION LEAGUE/.........TRUST ME ON THIS COMMENT SIASIA WILL DO FINE IF HE EVENTUALLY HANDLE THIS LOCAL TEAM NOT SUPER EAGLE/ THANKS YOU.

THANK YOU.
