Badu warns against CAN 2012 expectations

Posted: 10 October 2011 Time: 16:09

Emmanuel Agyemeng Badu has warned that is premature to assume Ghana are favourites for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea next year.

Badu was part of the Ghana squad that lost the 2010 Final to Egypt in Angola. With the six-time champions absent, along with Nigeria and Cameroon, there is genuine belief the Black Stars can triumph and end the country's 30-year wait for the Nations Cup.

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantekyie says "it is only a matter of course" that Ghana is favourite in 2010 but Badu is being cautious.

"It is too early to start saying we will win, that we are favorites," he tells KickOffGhana. "A lot of things can happen between now and January next year when the competition begins.

"The fact that so many big names are not there won't make it any easier. We will have to work very, very hard for it."

Badu will be a key member of the Black Stars in Angola, having stormed his way into a regular starting place in the national side and at his club side Udinese this year.

"I am delighted to be playing regularly for Ghana," he says. "It is a huge honour, especially when you consider the quality of midfielders we have in our side."

@ everyone in this room, I SAY HELLO DEAR MY FORUM MATE WHO NO GET SENSE OF UNDERSTANDING. NOW LISTEN, I AM IN GHANA NOW FOR PAST 15YEARS WITH GOOD HEALTH AND WEALTH, IF U WANT THE TRUE SUCCESS OF GHANA FOOTBALL, PLS, LISTEN VERY WELL AND CAREFUL. GHANA BLACK STARS IS A DEAD TEAM BEFORE BECAUSE OF ANTHONEY YEBOAH AND ABEDI PELE, JUST LIKE OLISEH AND THEIR GANGS STARS THEN, THIS TWO GUYS DISTROY BLACK STARS TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL. IT TAKE STEPHEN APPIAH TO TOOK OVER CAPTAINSHIP OF BLACK STARS NOT COACH, THIS GUY HAVE TO WELCOME HOME BASE PLAYERS AS FORIGN ONCE, HE USES HIS OWN PRIVATE MONEY ALSO HIS MARCH BONUES TO HELP THE LOCAL PLAYERS, HE STARTED LET THEM KNOW THAT THERE IS NO DIFFERENT BETWEEN FORIGN PLAYERS AND LOCAL PLAYERS ONLY CHANCE COMETH. APPIAH BUILDED CONFIDENCE INTO THEM AND ON HOW TO FACE GIANTS, SO DETERMINE AND CONFRONTATION HAS BECAME IN THEM AND HAS EXTENDED TO ALL GHANIANS AND THAT WAS THE SPIRIT THAT FOLLOWS THEM TILL TODAY NOT JUJU. OUR PLAYERS ARE TOO BIG MENS, THEY DON’T TAKE RISKY, WE NEED RISK TAKE PLAYERS, GHANA FOOTBALL TODAY NEVER NEEDS COACH, ANYONE CAN COACH THEM, JUST CALL ANYONE YOU WANT, AND THEY WILL COME AND USE THE SAME SPIRIT AND DELIVER NOT COACH, COACH DON’T PLAY, HE INSTRUCTED AND YOU ARE TO OBEY AND STRICK GOAL, PLS NOT COACH FAULT AT THIS TIME, ITS PLAYERS WHO HAVE NO DETERMINATION NOT COACH MATTER, IT IS PLAYERS WHO PLAY SHORT IN THE FIELD NOT COACH, SIASIA GIVE IT ALL AND BROUGHT GOOD SELECTION AND SHARP FIRST 11 TO GET WIN, HABAA. GHANAIANS ARE MEAN, THEY TRY SHORT FROM RANGE, MANY TIMES TILL GOAL ENTER, OUR BOYS ARE TOO RELUCTANTS, NO ACTIVES AND THAT’S WAS WHAT THE PROPHECY SAID, GHANAIANS ARE DETERMINED, THEY DON’T JOKE. I KNOW AND I BELIEVE THAT SIASIA IS THE ONE, HE WILL DO IT BUT IT WILL TAKE TIME. OUR BOYS ARE TOO COURRUPT, GHANAIAN ARE DISCPLING, MAYBE MIKEL GO TO NYASHI HER GIRL BEFORE COMING LATE. THIS PEOPLE ARE NOT COMMITTED, THEY DON’T WAT TO PLAY FOR SIASIA, NOT COACH FAULT MY BROTHERS, IT IS OUR PLAYERS INACTIVE TO SCORE. NKATA OFFOR 1.

Obviously,as a Ghanaian,i'll like Ghana to win.I am however not stupid not to know that matches between Ghana and Nigeria dont depend on current form and as such either country can win.
Nkata Offor u do talk crap about Ghana most of the time(its sometimes neceesary because my country ppl brag a lot and sometimes it gets irritating even to myself as a Ghanaian),but today u've made a very sensible point which is true to the core.I watch almost all Ghanaian players in the top leagues all over europe every weekend and even some nigerian players as well and i must confess abt 80% of our players are nothing special(kind of ordinary) in their clubs but there's this sense of urgency and commitment that they get when they are playing for the Blackstars which helps them to play beyond expectations,so i think the difference between the Ghanaian players and their Nigerian counterparts is that ingredient called commitment.OR maybe your players are under too much pressure when they play for the Super Eagles; u know 150million ppl expecting u to win all the time may be too much for some of ur players to carry such expectations on their shoulders which makes them choke when they play for the national team just like the English(three lions). Its either one of those two.I always want Nigeria to come second to Ghana in football cos we all know who's the big dog in all other areas,,,.its Nigeria.I hope Ghana wins today but if Nigeria should win i wouldn't be surprised cos form does not come into play in matches like this(The African Derby),Peace.
